  1. Hi All, Just wanted to relay my latest adventure in the world of LX470 Suspension. I have a 2002 LX470 with approximately 262,000 miles on the odometer. I bought it in 2004 and it had about 40,000 on it at that time. It's been a superb vehicle and still runs great. I feel like this vehicle was built for my lifestyle - skiing, small boat trailer, kayak on top, etc. I get it serviced regularly and have followed the Lexus service guidelines and intervals carefully. I have noticed however that the ride is not quite as smooth as it was in the early days. It's not bad or bouncy like some of the posts that I've read but it doesn't absorb the bumps quite as good as it used to. I've come to learn that the suspension is semi-active and is managed by these four squashed softball sized units referred to as accumulators or actuators. I use both terms as I've seen them used interchangeably however I'm not sure that it's entirely accurate. A Lexus Service Manual I have calls them Actuators but others call them Accumulators. I called my local Lexus dealer who quoted me $3,800 to replace all four. I have since found them on Ebay (OEM's) for $347.22 each and a local Japanese auto shop to replace them for $100 each which all adds up to less then $1,800 installed. Still not cheap but more than $2,000 less than what Lexus wants from me. These things aren't cheap and one reputable guy I talked to thought this is even less than Lexus pays for them. Not sure about that but I like the idea of saving $2K. They come direct from Japan so shipping can take up to 2 weeks but the shipping was free. I considered going with B&B but saw a few posts that made me think twice. I can't qualify whether his product is the way to go as I've never used them but just saw enough bad press to steer me to OEM's and for about the same price I think. My goal is to get to 400,000 miles which is another 140,000 miles or so. I'll update this post after they've been installed on how much ride quality has changed. Also, I am attaching (or attempting to attach) the Lexus Service Manual pages that pertain to these suspension components. The service manual is actually for the 2005 LX470 but I don't think there's much difference. LX470 suspension.pdf
  2. I have recently become the owner of a 2000 LX470. It’s the Gold edition, (Air-ride, sunroof, leather, AWD, V8, etc) This girl has had several timing belt replacements, and has been kept up very well. It has had several because the previous owner had it replaced once, and then the tensioner broke after replacement. He then had it changed out again. Any how, I’ve began to notice a lack of power and a straight up misfire on cold start only. This only happens when it is below Normal operating temp, and it is enough of a misfire that I can feel it stuttering, and it has a very strong hesitation to accelerate. It has new plugs, new fuel filter, And new air filter. It also has no stored trouble codes, and does not trigger a check engine light, as well as any other in dash monitors, and has not since this began around 3-4 months ago. Please give me a word of advice!!
  3. I just got my lx470. 2004 Only 105000 miles It was involved in a car wreck. Drivers front fender, bumper wheel. Had brakes, tores rotated and balance and aligned. I do hear a load roar when you get over 40mph. Gets loader as you speed up. Notice a little clicking sound by the 4Wd handle. Also clicking sound when you hit a bump. Any ideas?? Driveshaft?
  4. Hello everyone I will admit I am new to the forum service but I have just acquired a 2005 Lexus LX470 and would like to get some wheels/tires for it if anyone has an idea for me or wheels for sale I would be more than interested!
  5. Hi, First post - I'm looking at buying a leather seat trim kit from Lseat - to replace my well worn front and middle seats. Wonder if anyone on the forum has had any experience using a seat leather trim kit or with Lseat.
  6. This is a new car to me that I bought with the no start engine. Only 42000 miles since last timing belt change . Here's what I found when I opened it up. Several bolts on water pump housing were loose. Alternator lower bolt was broken. The tensioner pulley was completely broken apart so I don't have any pictures of that . Water pump shaft was bent and water composed inoperative. That's why the coloring on the water pump pulley is shows discoloring from the Heat. Who knows what happened in terms of the sequence.... Anyone ever see this on a Lexus? I've had 10 Lexus before, worked as a mechanic 30 years, and I've never seen this before.
  7. Hello, I have a 1999 LX470, 140k miles. I noticed there is strange noise (sounds like servo motor or some kind of !Removed! sound). when I first turn the key to light up the dash also when I press brake several times. It also happens frequently during driving when I press brake pedal. Brake still functions. Here is a YouTube link. 1999 LX470 Noise Behind Dash you might need to put on headphone to hear the noise clearly in the YouTube video. Just wondering what the problem is . Any thoughts and gauidance are appreciated. Regards Felix
  8. The auto open and close feature of the driver side mirror no longer works. It is stuck in the open position. It also continues to make a high pitched noise like it is trying to engage the cams but cannot. I was told I would have to get a replacement mirror and have it painted to match the green paint. Can this be fixed?
  9. Bought my LX 470 gently used with 16K miles in 2005, 10-15K miles annually, gently driven and meticulously maintained. LOVE MY TRUCK! At 121,000 miles, the VGRS/VCS lights come on. I read up on it and saw it was usually something minor to set these sensors off, but I saw online that the LS460 had a RECALL on this. LX470 had the Pittman collar for the steering recalled, and I got it fixed last Fall. Concerned, I took my LX470 to the dealer for answers: the problem was catastrophic FAILURE of the VGRS (and ECU thereafter), with a repair cost for the VGRS actuator plus labor at $3800 (part alone was $2729!). When I spoke with my local service manager (awesome guy), I expressed my concern that this effectively rendered my vehicle undrivable and unsellable! He told me he's seen THREE repairs in 3 years, a rare but costly failure. He went to work on solutions…but so did I. Contacted Lexus Customer Care, reported my complaint and concerns for possible failure related to the recall, the LS issue and recall, and demanded some type of shared cost of repair and help for this. Lexus and my dealership thankfully came through within 24 hrs: Lexus and the dealer would share the cost of the repair and charged me $680 in labor. After the VGRS was replaced, however, the ECU then failed!…but fortunately they covered the cost AND labor for this as well! Truck is driving great now, but now I have to consider selling it out of concern for "what's next". Just an FYI for anyone experiencing something similar. CALL LEXUS CUSTOMER CARE and tell them about the problem!
  10. Hi, I am new to the forum; I just bought a used 2001 LX470. I wanted to introduce myself and get some advice from the forum. First off, the amp (ML) seems to be out; I am aware this is a defect with this year and model. I have located it under the seat but have not removed it. I found replacements on Ebay as well as know of repairs services. I would like to get any advice on which way to go and if anyone knows whether it is feasible for me to repair it myself? Secondly, Floor liners or mats? weathertech or cheap mats or something else? Thanks, Adam
  11. I have spent a fair amount of time searching about this on this forum and IH8MUD trying to find out what is necessary just to change the pads on my truck. Haven't been able to get a consensus, some say it is hard some say easy some say removing the calipers is necessary some don't, some say re-grease the piston some don't. Just wondering if there is a simple "how to" out there somewhere. I've changed the pads on my Volvo before and it was pretty simple, just assumed it would be similar here but the posts I am seeing are making me start to believe otherwise. Would appreciate any insights or info. Thank you.
  12. Does anyone know how to remove the 6 CD changer that is located in the center console between the two front seats in a 2002 LX 470?
  13. Hi, I am a new memmber of the owners club living in Panama and would like to introduce myself and ask for any advice on a problem I frequently experience with my 2000 LX 470. The problem is that for no apparent reason the accelleration suddenly drops off (by pushing the throttle pedel right to the floor I can still maintain some momentum) but the engine must switched off and restarted before the accelleration will resume to normal. Has anyone else experienced this problem? ,,, the Lexus service center down here can not identify the problem at all.,,,, thanks in advance for any advice.
