Is there anyway to make the rear windows go up when the top is down on the SC430?

I like to ride with the top down and all windows down but my wife prefers riding with the windows up when the top is down...

RTM (read the manual)! On p269 of my 2003 Owner's Manual it says:

Closing the quarter windows

1. Turn the ignition switch on.

2. Turn the trunk lid opener main switch (in the glove box) from the operative position to the inoperative position

(in the canceled position)

3. Push the "OPEN/CLOSE" switch on the "OPEN" side twice slowly, within 10 seconds after Step 2.

4. Hold down the same switch on the "CLOSE" side once within 10 seconds after Step 3.

The quarter windows will close.

I'm a recent sc430 purchaser (2 weeks) and I am new to this club.

This may sound stupid, but how do you eject the gps disc from the trunk navigation unit. I checked to see which version I have, (ver 2.1), but I can't seem to remove the disc, unless

there is no disc in the unit. I set the switch to open, but nothing came out. My sc is a 2003 and generation 2/3. I'm assuming the disc is not in the unit, if it doesn't eject when the open switch is selected. Can anyone help me with this.

With the top up (so the trunk is clear) raise the trunk lid.

You should see the navigation device about half way back on the right side of the trunk. Remove the plastic cover by gently prying it off from the top. This will reveal the dvd player. On the left side of the slot you'll see a small sliding cover over the eject button. Slide it to the right and press the button to eject the dvd. You just slide the new dvd into the slot and it will self-load. Be sure to slide the cover back to the left or the disk won't read. Replace the plastic cover after the disk loads. You have to have the ignition key in the ACC position for this to work.

Once you get the nav. screen clean, try using your fingerNAIL instead of your fingerTIP to touch the OKAY button.

I have searched the internet for installation instructions on how to replace the navigation disc, and end up with dead links. I am planning on ordering the new DVD, but would like to know how to install it before I place the order. Any help?

Bulb size? The official part number and description is "90981-12005 12V 8W" but you can buy them at any store that sells auto parts.

Can anyone help?!! I just purchased a 2002 Lexus SC430 and the navigation screen reads "Disk Read Error. Insert Disk." I want to purchase the 8.1 version as mine is a version 1, but i would first like to make sure the navigation system is working. Can anyone help me reset this. I've read other posts that suggested disconnecting one of the battery cables, and possibly the cables to the unit itself. I'm going to try this this afternoon, if that doesn't work i will try dismantling the ECU and looking for a reset button. When i hit the reset button (provided i find it), does the battery cable need to be on or off when i hit the reset button?

Have you tried ejecting the disk, then re-inserting it? This sometimes helps.

I went through alot of the archived notes on navigation but I did not come across an answer to my question.

What is the latest version disc number for a 2002 model year sc430 that will install and not cause problems ?

I think mine is an original because alot of newer streets are not indicated. I just want to install the latest version possible without causing all of the problems I read about in the archives.

The latest version of the GPS DVD is Rel 09.1. You will need the Gen 2/3 version for your car. I have one in my 2003 and it works fine.

Will anyone share any good or bad experiences with devices that allow you to play songs from your iphone over the radio? Also, if you have an iphone, do you have any issues with the bluetooth working properly when in the car?

I have a Motorola Bluetooth device for my iPhone and it works perfectly in my 2003. I use a cassette adapter and play the iPhone's music using the Tape selector.

I tried one of those devices that convert the iPhone signal to an FM frequency you set your radio to, but found it was more trouble than it was worth because

the FM signal was interfered with by some radio stations in the area. The inexpensive cassette adapter (about $5.00) was the best solution for me.

If your radio has an AUX input then get the adapter cable and use that.

The Cosco guy told me after the repair that he didn't own the tool to reset the computer. Now my car beeps several times whenever its started and the low tire warning light flashes. I am remiss to visit my Lexus dealer because I saved a ton letting Cosco install the four sensors.

Does anyone have a solution to my problem??

If you're embarrassed to visit your dealer why not just go to ANOTHER dealer and ask them to check your computer and reset the error code.

I couldn't find a replacement for the OEM mirror, so I got a stick-on digital compass for my windshield that even has a night light!

I have a 2003 SC430 and the dealer can't tell me where the cargo net hooks up. the parts department doesn't show a picture. they want me to bring the car in so they can look at it. does anyone have a cargo net installed?

There are two studs mounted inside the trunk near the taillights (one on each side). The cargo net just hooks over them.

I got a reply from a guy on Craigslist who will sell me a v8.1 disk (copy) for a Gen 2/3 system for $25!!! Here's his email:

"$25 for the backup disc on DVD+R DL. i tested it on my 2004 gs430, i did not have chance to test on 2003 sc430 so i can not warranty it will work well. however, my friend had 2002 sc430 and it works after few eject and reinsert the disc."

When I asked if he took PayPal, he sent me this:

"I am only have backup of the disc on DVD+r dl for now. I sold all the oem disc. It cost only $25 mailed to you. My car is 2004 gs430. The disc tested on my car fine without any read error issues. I can not warranty 100% if it work on model yr 2003 until you Tri it out and find out yourselves.

Can your car read a DVD+R DL disc?"

Anyone have any thoughts on this offer?

Hope someone can help me? I just upgraded my original 2002 Lexus SC-430 GPS Disc from the original Ver. 1.0 to the newest, latest, greatest Ver. 7.1 and the maps are awesome. Does any know how to debug the GPS DVD Disc so I can enter address and everything while I'm driving so I don't have to pull over and stop to do it. Thanks for your help.

Has anyone replaced the interior rear view self-dimming mirror with one that has a built-in compass display?

Please tell me where you got it and how it was installed. BTW the dealer quoted me $1200 for a new one!!!!!!

I have a 2003 SC430 with 65K miles and would like a mirror with a compass in place of the OEM mirror but not at that price!
