  1. How long have you used front rotors on IS250?

I have IS250 at 65,000 miles and got this car used at about 50,000 miles

Front rotors on this car have lip on router edge about 0.5 to 1 mm thick from surface of rotor. Because I never seen such a lip in any of cars I had before, I thought it was how rotors were designed.

Now, its pads are almost worn out. While ordering pads, I looked at some of the rotors and non-of them had lips on outer edge.

Is this lip from normal wear? If so, what is life expectancy from OEM rotors?

I wish I can measure thickness of rotor to check if it is still thick enough, but I do not have a micrometer.

Should I take rotors to shop and have it machined to remove lips? Or is it going to be ok to just chang pads?

Lip is from wear. Get cheap calipers from Harbor Freight to measure them, but its probably time. Depends on driving style and many other factors, but 60k might be normal for you/your car. I tend to get 100k+ on my street car, but only 60k or so on the SUV. Chinese ebay rotors work just fine and are dirt cheap. May as well just replace them with the pads.

  2. I have a 2007 IS-350 that was purchased from my sister-in-law. She bought the car new and she's a pretty conservative driver. It started around 60k miles, the low oil light was coming on every 1000-1500 miles. I would check the oil level and it would be at least one quart low. Top it off and 1000-1500 miles later, it would be low again. She changes the oil every 3000 miles. I have also changed the oil for her in the past and have always put the exact amount of oil (6.7 quarts).

The car has around 83k now and it's still doing the same thing. I park it in the gargage and I don't see any signs of an oil leak from anywhere. Other than that, the car drives without any issues. No black smoke coming out of the tailpipe.

Is it normal for this car to be burning oil just from daily driving? Has any one experience this issue with their IS? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a problem to me, but probably with no easy fix. If you are lucky, something like blocked PCV system causing some internal pressure might do it. My 250k LS still doesn't burn oil.

  3. If it makes you feel good, great, but the intake is engineered for the needs of the engine. There is no street benefit whatsoever that will make any difference in real world use. If you put headers on too, bump up the timing, have a nearly open exhaust, up the fuel pressure to compensate, then maybe, but probably not. I run more or less stock intake on my race car (except I pull air through the corner light, but otherwise stock).

  4. I have a 2007 400h. I want to know if it is towable on all four tires with my RV. As I understand it, some vehicles you must buy special pumps and stuff in order to tow it on all four tires behind your RV.

If I do have to buy a special pump, do you know what it costs and does it do any damage to the car in the long run?

Thanks for any help you can give.

best bet is to ask the dealer.... I wonder the same.. I'll see if anybody at work knows (I work for Toyota's mfg HQ)

  5. Hi all,

I need some shock mounts (aka strut tops) at a minimum for my 91LS400, but up to complete struts (don't really need springs, but whatever - need the top mounts tho). I also have many interior items, including HVAC, the entire airbag system etc. for sale or trade (HVAC, Airbag and sensors, window regulators, interior handles, Nachimichi stereo etc).

If you have shock mounts at least, let me know asap, and how much you want for all 4. Must be steel suspension.
