  1. Hey tta300 (or anyone else who can help), I have an RX300 with 60K on it and was told by Lexus dealership that they rotors need to be turned and front brake pads need replacement. They were very insistent in saying that the rotors DO NOT need replacement, just to be turned. Total price: $260 I called a local mechanic who has a great reputation around here and he recommended replacing the rotors. His view is that turning them will only be good for 6 months to a year and then they could need turning/replacing. He recommends to replace the front brake pads and rotors. Total Price: $410 What do you think, is it worth the extra $150? Thanks everyone

  3. My Lexus is certified. If I don't service at the dealer, does that void the certification in any way? Thanks Anyone know if having someone else do the maintenance work will void the certification? Thanks
  4. Hey Mike, Did you ever figure out how to do this? I want to be able to play MP3s in my RX300 and currently have a 6-CD changer. Thanks
  5. My Lexus is certified. If I don't service at the dealer, does that void the certification in any way? Thanks
  6. Hi all, Can someone tell me what exactly is needed for the 60k miles check up? I was told they will need to do the following: - Flush engine, coolant, brake fluid, etc. - Replace engine filter - Replace air filter - Rotate tires - Oil Change I was also told I will probably need my brakes replaced and maybe even the rotors. I have 55,000 miles on my car now. He said all this would run around $600 when it came time for the 60k mile service. Is there anything else anyone would recommend I get serviced? The reason I am asking is because I can get all this done for much cheaper. I just want to make sure I am covering all my bases in terms of getting all the right things serviced. Thanks so much!
  7. Hello, Last night I purchased a 1999 RX 300 with 46k miles on from a Lexus dealership. The car is certified and I got the extended 5 year certification plan. I paid a total of 23,500 for the vehicle. With 46k miles on the car, how long do you think before I start getting major problems with the vehicle? I am practically fully covered under the certification for the next 5 years (or odometer reading of 100k), but for those of you who have 1999 RX cars over 100,000 miles, how much in maintenance are you putting into the cars? I am hoping this vehicle will last me till about 135,000 before giving me any persistent problems. Let me know... Thanks
  8. A Lexus dealer has an RX 300 - 1999 for $20,900 with 40k miles on it and it is a pre-owned certified car. The dealer told me it was a very basic model with minimal features. For example, it does not have a rear spoiler or moon roof. It does have leather upholstery but one thing that surprised me, was that it did not have a CD player, just a cassette deck and radio. Has anyone ever heard of an RX without a CD player? What else might it not have in it? Thanks
  9. I am planning on purchasing an LS400 with high mileage but I want to know, up to how high do they usually go on mileage before having lots of problems. Should I aim for something in the 60,000 mile range, or would it be a safe bet to get a cheaper car with around 80k miles? You guys who own LS400s, or have in the past, how long did they go before you were having to pay $100 or more per month in repairs? Thanks alot!!
