Hi there all it's Dave, same guy who posted the question. I was able to get the oil filter out from above, I have long arms though and it was a pretty far reach, seemed easier than going from the bottom once I grabbed it from both positions. It was also very tight, I had to get it loose with a big pair of channel locks, I will try and get a oil filter wrench that fits that filter perfect before the next change. Later guys -Dave

I'm the same Dave from previous post, sorry to bother all but a couple more questions. I was checking the battery and the month/year markers on the battery were not punched out, but there was a sticker on the battery that says 3/08. The car is an 04, I'm not sure if that sticker means March of 2008, or Aug. of 2003. Does anyone know for sure? I'm also getting ready to start my 1st oil change, I was able to squeeze my hand up through a hole and touch the oil filter, I havn't tried to unscrew it yet. I'm temped to go jack it up enough to get my head underneath and see how hard it is to pull the cover underneath it. Does anyone know if that cover underneath needs to come off to fit the old filter out and new in? Thanks again -Dave

Hi guys, My wife and I just picked up an 04 sc430 and love it. I read about the tire maint. before purchase and if thats as bad as it gets I'll be doing great. I did have a couple quick questions for the experts. On another post about the mini-spares it looked like the conclusion was that a rx-8 spare would fit the sc430. I need to find a spare for the small trunk and I am on a budget, any info on where to find a spare would be appreciated. I can't believe lexus would charge over $500 for a spare, thats sure seems high. My rear view mirror also seems to be slightly loose. I have checked several auto parts store and no luck finding service manual yet, I need to order one. It was easy enough to get the small top part of the cover off where it mounts to windshield but I didn't see a screw to tighten and was afraid to try and remove the bottom cover since I didn't know how it comes off. Any help there would also be very appreciated. Thanks for any help guys. I like the forum, I have alot of reading to do. I'm not having much luck with the search function, it doesn't seem to get the specific thing I'm looking for. I'm sure I'll learn much more as I read. One last question it sounds like most use the lexus oil filter, is there a reason not to use a good aftermarket (bosch)? Thanks again guys-Dave
