  1. My daughter overheated the 91 es250. When I went to check it out the next day, I put some water in it and it started right up but felt a little sluggish. Drove approximately 3mi on the highway 55mph and the engine clunked and stopped. The temp gage was normal. Had it towed to a dealer and they say it is seized up. Brought it home and sure enough, I cant turn the crank with a breaker bar. I partially removed the timing cover and it looks like the belt is ok. Its a 2.5l V-6. Ive been driving the car daily for the past 2 years and no hint of any overheating or mechanical problems. Body and interior are in great shape, so I am considering an engine swap which I will probably do myself. Found a 2.0l 91 Camry V6 that I was told will fit. Any thoughts or advice??
  2. In the paperwork, I found the VIN from the vehicle the unit came out of. Do you think the code would be the last 3 digits of the VIN?
  3. 91es250. Got a replacement radio/tape/CD unit from ebay. Same as the Pioneer unit in the car "anti-theft P622" . Upon installing it, the LED window reads "SEC". There apparently is a 3 digit code to unlock the unit. Can I reset the code? What needs to be done to get this thing to work?
  4. I removed the wood trim by opening the cup holders partially near the bottom of the trim so I could get my fingers behind the trim, then pulled approximately 1/4" so that I could get a flathead screwdriver behind the trim further up around the radio opening. Pried around the radio opening periphery until the trim disengaged from all the clips. Had to pull perfectly straight at the top near the vent trim to get it to come out.
  5. I have a similar problem with the attenna not working except my unit is in place just unplugged. I tried plugging it in and the attenna went up when turning the radio on but when turned off, it went down and motor ground the gears for 5 seconds before turning off. So in order to get the radio to work, I turned it on and disconnected the attenna while in the up position. Unless there is a relatively simple way to fix the power antenna, I will probably replace it with a manual one.
  6. Es250 resident expert here! Take a flathead screwdriver and pry evenly all the way around it. it will come off. dont break the clips that hold it in or you will be mad. that piece of trim is $100 at the dealer. It is REAL wood and you can break it. Wow, real wood uh! Looks very recessed and hard to get behind it. My daughter drove the car for a couple years and bought and new car, so I have decided to keep it and fix it up. It drives nice and has some minor things that need attention. The CD player stopped working and also the rear speakers stopped working. Front speakers work fine. Do you think its the in-dash unit that is bad for the rear speakers or possibly are they run by a separate amp? I have a replacement factory radio/cassette/CD player from ebay and thought that will take care of it.
  7. When starting up a cold engine, it doesn't start right up especially in colder weather. Usually starts on 3rd or 4th try when turning the key for a couple seconds each try (wont start on 1 continuous cranking, must do a few short trys). Replaced the cold start valve and made no difference. Haven't replaced the fuel filter in years. When hot such as in summer, it starts 1st try. Any ideas on what might cause this?
  8. The headlight adjusters are broken for both headlights. Are these interchangeable with other cars and/or can new ones be purchased somewhere??
  9. I need to replace the factory radio/cassette/CD player and need to know how to get the old unit out. Does the plastic woodgrain trim around the unit and HVAC pry out? Any tricks to avoid damaging the trim pcs would be appreciated.
