I have a 98 LS 400 Ihave had a somewhat low brake pedal on it for sometime now. It stops fine ,it has new pads all the way around and new rear calipers, The brake fluid is clean and bleed properly, If I clap off all 4 rubber lines the pedal is rock hard and if I take off the clamps one at a time it goes down the same each wheel. I would just like the pedal a little higher and harder. The car has 145,000 miles and is perfect shape! Very well maintained

I replaced my starter @80,000 miles $755.00 at the dealer.

Sounds like a timming belt.

Check the third brake light bulb, that's what it was on my 98

I would like to install a Sirius radio in the ashtray area in my 98 LS400. What is the best way to remove the ashtray and the ashtray door to run the wires and install the unit?

The rear lights are common with a pinched wire by the trunk hinge, there are posts that talk about this trouble

It comes on when you have low battery voltage, The voltage should be around 13.9 to 14.3 volts check with the car running at the battery.If it is low I would check the alternator...

Try calling Crystal Lake Pit Stop 815-455-1300 They have F&R rotors that are as good as OEM and pads to match very good prices. I have them on my 98 LS with NO problems after 35000...

Can anyone tell me which is Bank 1 when it comes to failure codes? Is this the engine or passenger side emissions related problems?

Bank 1 is the drivers side sensor 2 is the sensor after the converter

I had the Bridgestone Turanzas' and nothing but trouble with them. They wounld not stay in balance and had alot of road noise after 35,000 I went with the Michelin MXV+4 Great tire

If you just want to turn off the CEL give this a try. I used it on my mom's Corolla and it works fine!!

I had the Bridgestone Turanza LS-V and the older they got the louder they got.(Real bad after 35K)

Ireplaced them with Michelin MXV4+. Night and day diffrence I cant here any road noise at all go with the michelins

I also have a 98 LS and I'm a certified ASE brake tech and my pedal is the same. It just feels lower than it actually is.

I have a 98 LS and I had to replace the left side first O2 sensor. I's under the seat your have to pull up the carpet and remove the gas pedal (just pull hard toward the seat it will pop off) the you will see the wire for it . Not a big job total of about 1 hour. I bought a Denso replacement for $65.00 no big deal I think the dealer wanted around $280.00

I replaced the hood struts on my 98 LS with struts off a camry from Autozone $15.00 each no diff. than OE

I also have a 98 LS and it needs plugs every 90,000 miles. I change the transmission fluid with every oil change done at 3,000 miles. I use Valvoline 5W30 which is the factory recommended oil. I remove the drain plug for the transmission fluid and replace 2 quarts of Toyota Type IV. It is very important to use only Toyota brand, no exceptions. I know this is overkill on the trans, but a Lexus certified mechanic does the same on his personal car and recommended it. I have 130,000 on my car and have never had a problem.

I have a 98 LS and sometimes it takes a little bit longer in the cold......... Don't worry about it it's a LEXUS!!! It wont let you down.

I have a 98 LS400 with 130,000 miles on it. I started my car when it was 17 degrees(F) out and the car idled at 1500 RPM and continued to idle at this speed after car got to operating temp. I drove the car for 60 miles and the same thing occurred. I pulled my car into a heated garage and turned it off, and let it cool. I then restarted the car and since then the car has been operating normally, idling at 750 RPM. On a cold start, outdoor and motor temp, it idles at 1500 and has a very slight vibration to it. It feels like an oscillation of a motor or a possible flooder in the fuel system. It goes away after the engine warms up. I have been told that it is possibly the throttle control motor with magnetic clutch, or the same part called an IAC, idle air control valve. These are commonly replaced on American made cars, but I have found no such history for Lexus. Fuel mileage has not changed since I have experienced this. If you have had this problem or have any info for me, please respond.

I have a 98 with 130,000 on it and it's awsome!! The seats take a min or 2 to warm up but they are nice and warm after that. No powerstearing pump problems with the 98 they worked out the trouble in 97.
