  1. any know where i can get the rear trunk emlem "ES" came off in the car wash on my 1997 300, beside the junkyard or dealer. does anyone have an extra they could send in the mail? thought i would try, you never know what someone has laying around. i just dont like that its not on there. thanks

Hello. I have the lexus symbol and the word "LEXUS" emblem. Do you need those? OR just the "ES"?

  2. Check engine light came on and I took it to the autozone to get scanned. They said it was either the O2 sensors or the catalytic converter that would need replacing.

I then took it to Firestone and they scanned it and told me that I would have to the replace the airflow sensor and the O2 sensor. I forgot what bank or sensor it was.

They quoted me totally to replace everything to be $1200. $300 for air flow sensor, $300 for labor for air flow sensor, $300 for O2 sensor and another $300 for labor for O2 sensor. But then they tried to cut me a deal and would take off the labor for the O2 sensor and would only charge me $900.

I told them I'd consider it and tried to leave but then they told me that I should do it as soon as possible and the the best thing to do was at least replace the air flow sensor. They said that sometimes its because of a bad air flow sensor that affects the computer into thinking the O2 sensor is bad. So then I left.

I looked up the sensors online and found out I could get them at much less prices and the repair work for just the air flow sensor alone would not equal up to an hour.

But I still don't know where exactly I should get these and the lowest prices and exactly the steps on how to replace them.

The most I've done so far is opened the hood and found where the air flow sensor was.

Can anyone also tell me what are the consequences when driving with a bad air flow or o2 sensor?

First of all, DO NOT GO TO THE PLACE YOU ARE DESCRIBING. THEY ARE BADLY RIPPING YOU OFF. I had my O2 sensors( all of them) and Mass air flow sensors replaced for less than $400. It takes about 5 minutes to replace these(their intent is to deceive you with the labor). Secondly, get the DENSO O2 sensors and DENSO mass air flow sensor. Denso is the best company and the recommended one for lexus. They are relatively cheaper than many and are the best quality out their. If I remember right, one cost about 100-150, depending on the sensor. The worst that can happen while driving with a bad air flow or O2 sensor is that your car will eat gas like its free, and overtime it will effect other parts of the car like the catalytic converter and possibly the engine. I would definitely recommend you to get these replaced. You will know the big difference and will save money on fuel, and prevent any further damages to your car which will come with a pricey tag. The place you described, again are trying to rip you off. Go around and get some quotes and then choose the best and cheapest place. Again, it should not cost more than 300 for all the sensors to be replaced. I had all of mine sensors replaced for less than 400, and you need only 2 of them to be replaced. Good luck! Let me know for further assistance.

  3. Hello, I am curious to know what I should do, tonight my car didnt start and I figured it was the battery coz it did this last year also during snow and freezing temps. I bought a new battery last year, this year again we have frigid temp (tonight it is 15f), but when the triple guy came to give me a jump he said looks like the starter and not the battery, he brought in a rod cranked the starter while simulstaneously chargin the battery as well.

So the car did start after that and it started one hour later also. so I was thinking if its the started the car wouldnt have started again.Could he have been just trying to get me to go to this mechanic shop, coz he gave me his shops card and said to tell his name when I go there. so what do I do just get the battery replaced again or get the starter changed also? any advise, suggestions or instructions are highly appreciated. Thanks.

It could also possibly be your alternator.

  4. Dear all,

as the title says, I''m considering buying a 2004 ES330 with 96,000 miles. What problems can I expect? For a comparable price, I''m also considering a 2004 Maxima with about 65,000 miles. How would the reliability compare?

    Thanks for your kind attention.

    Michel

I would definitely buy the es330 over the maxima. No doubt, maximas are pretty good cars, but when it comes against the lexus es330, theres no chance. The es330 are more reliable and more trouble free. I currently have a 99 es300 with 86k and it runs excellent. I havent gotten any major work done, just the regular maintenance. Also look on the flip side, your getting a es330 which is a LEXUS, and is in the competition league with BMW and MERCEDEZ. Lexus is a luxury vehicle with a great sporty look and performance. Lexus lasts well over 200000miles. But before you purchase any car, make sure to get the CARFAX, and get the car checked out by a professional and well trained mechanic. Do not take it to a mechanic recommended by the seller. These 2 tasks are the most important in your decision. By the way, whats the asking price for the es330 and the maxima?

  5. Allllright fellas I posted this on Club Lexus and didn't really get any help... here's the rundown

    1999 ES 300 265k on the clock

Got a check engine / trac off light about a month ago

    first things I did:

    -changed spark plugs

    -replaced fuel filter

    -changed air filter

-ran a bottle of sea foam thru a full tank of premium fuel

    still not fix...

-scanned the car pulled a P1130 code

    -replaced ALL THREE 02 sensors....

car ran fine for about 2 weeks (still had check engine light)

now the car runs like total a$$! VERY rough idle and periodically bucks and shudders while driving

I was thinking it may be a vacuum leak or something but if I disconnect the battery for about 15 min or so then drive the car (check engine light goes off) it runs perfect for about 15 min then the light comes back on and it goes right back to running like dung....

ANY help is GREATLY appreciated! I'm at my whits end with this car!

Are you sure you got the right O2 sensors put in. They all are very similar for the 99es300. I also had a problem similar to yours, and had to get the O2 sensors replaced. It was a headache because I kept on receiving the wrong O2 sensors. They all look similar. Check out if you got the right ones

  6. Hello. I have a 99lexus es300 with 86000miles. I want to get an oil change but want to do it myself. I been getting the oil change from the dealers since I've had my car, but now I will be able to do it myself. I want to know what kind of oil do the dealers use? Can you please be exact. And how many bottles or quarts do they use. Anyhelp will be greatly appreciated. THANKS ALOT!

  7. Check engine light on, diagnostic indicates 4 separate misfire codes on cylinders 2, 3, 4, and 6. Car has 180000 miles on it. Had 6 new plugs and coils/wires installed at 125000. Assumed that plugs would last up to 100000, but mechanic is suggesting a tuneup replace and remove all 6 including coils/wires. Will this guarantee that the car will run smoothly again?

Hey tderrick, I have a 99 es300 and had the exact same situation. Hear me out on this. I also had misfires on almost all cylinders, check engine light was on, almost every mechanic I went to told me I need a tune up or coils or plugs changed or catalyst converter changed etc etc. I was so frustrated because I could not find from anybody what the exact problem was. But to my surprise, the problem was the oxygen sensors. I replaced all three of my oxygen sensors and the car was good and still is good. But you will not need to change all three sensors. It probably is one of them. You will need to go to a mechanic and tell him to perform the diagnostic to find out which sensor needs to be changed. I found out that I needed to replace my oxygen sensors by an electronically modulated diagnostic which checks the car performance in frequency and waves. This was performed by a highly professional technician. I would suggest to get this done and you should be good. Also by the way, before my problem was resolved, my car ate gas like it was free.

Unfortunately, this morning I authorized the work to be done, limited to new plugs and coils. Hopefully, this tune-up will do the trick. But after reading your comment about eating gas, I am not so sure now that the plugs and coils needed to be replaced. If when I pick up the car this afternoon, I find that the car still runs crummy, who should I go to for the electronically modulated diagnostic, since I dont believe this mechanic can do this type of diagnostic. He uses the basic ODB plug in port type kit for testing.

You should go to any certified mechanic shop. But remember to tell them that you are having misfires and that your plugs and coils are fine(you had them changed). Tell them does the problem have to do anything with the oxygen sensors. Mention to them that someone else had this problem too and the problem was the oxygen sensors. I also had a tough time finding a mechanic that could diagnose this problem, and luckily there was only one which found the problem and fixed it in like 15-20mins. About the test, the mechanic did the test while the car was running and while the car was idle. He was checking frequency waves, and other measures which I am not exactly sure of. He had the wires connected to the battery and the under the steering wheel you check the OBD codes from. If you are located in NY, which I doubt, I can give you the address. But I am 99.9% sure it is your oxygen sensors. If anything, just let me know and I'll see how I can further help you.

Well, this past Friday I picked up the car and after three days, its running better than it has in years. The only work that was done was the tune-up (6 new double platinum plugs). I guess that the oxygen sensors were'n't it at all. Thanks for your time and thoughts. PS> Im in Southern California where oxygen is at a premium!

Good to know your problem was solved!

  10. I have just had my Lexus ES300 front and rear alignment performed. After alignment it pulls to the left. When you release the wheel it goes to the center and the car drifts to the left. It moves quick enough the you can feel the direction change when the speed of the car is 45+. Is the because the steering wheel was not set to center during alignment or is the alignment of the front or rear incorrect?

Hey Jim, I had this problem also with my 99 es300. I got alignment many times but the problem was still persistent. Then I had laser alignment done and after that my car was good to go.

  11. You should get your brake pads and rotors changed. I had a friend who had this problem and after getting the pads and rotors changed the problem didn't exist anymore. It could also be your tie rod ends. I would suggest to get these checked out from a certified mechanic.

Although anything possible I guess, I don't see how rotors and brake pads have anything to do with induces a vibration after a tire balance.

Its true tire balancing has nothing to do with the vibration but the symptoms you are describing lead to believe that it could possibly be pads, rotors, or rods. When going at high speeds and then braking, the car sometimes shakes due to unleveled rotors and pads. But I think your rods need to be checked. Does your car start to shake when you apply the brake or does it shake without applying brake over 65mph?

  12. Hello. I have a 1999 lexus es300 with 86000 miles. When I am stopped on a red light, my steering vibrates. When I drive, it does not vibrate. Its only when I am on D and idle. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know what the problem can be? I took the car to mechanic but they say its normal. I know its not normal. I drove other es300s that have mileage around mine but they dont vibrate. Thanks
