  1. AlfaAlfa: Could not find the FF ( fuel filter) at the Car Quest, so took the car to National Tire and Battery. They told me that the FF is in the Fuel tank, attached to the fuel pump. They searched on the right side of the pumpkin but could not find the FF. M Khan
  2. LS400 1996 . 110,00 miles. I am pretty sure my suspension needs work. I checked tireRack.com. They have http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/Susptabl.jsp?autoMake=Lexus&autoYear=1996&autoModel=LS400&autoModClar=&brand=&perfcat=premium What do you suggest from your experience? Sincerely, M Khan
  3. Gents: I have a Lexus 400 1996. I want to share with you a simple technique to clean Air filter and the cabin filter. We all know that blowing air does not fully remove the dirt and grime. What I have been doing for a long time with my motorcycle filters and car filters is this: Remove the cabin and the air filter. Fill a bucket with cold water and add Tide to it. How much Tide? just 1/2 as you would use for a regular laundry. Immerse the filter in the solution and keep it there for 10 minutes. Now move the filter in the bucket for a few minutes. You will find the water turning black. If filter is really dirty, repeat above. Take the filter to a sink and rinse with running water. Dry in sun. Wala! you have a new filter. Cabin Filter is a bit delicate. Just be careful. You can include febreze in the solution too. You will be surprised the clean air you will get. Save money and go green! ( I have done the above in a washing machine too. Just put the air filter in a pillow case and run cold cycle, dry in sun. M Khan
  4. AlfaAlfa: Where did you purchase the filter. M Khan

  9. Hi: LS 400 1996 110,000 miles During the good times I bought a brand new 1996 LS 400. I still have it. Times have changed, and I can't afford to buy a new car because of the economy and putting two kids in college. So far the car has given me ZERO problems after 110,000 miles. I have religiously changed oil as well as all the fluids, except the final drive fluid. I have also had the "stealers" change the timing belt and the H2O pump thingy. I have not changed struts or the rear shocks. I did not change them because at 95,000 miles, I took the car to NTB, (National Tire and Battery) as well as Pep Girls ), and they told me that the suspension was fine ( although the "stealers" diagnosed bad struts and ball joints). My question: What do I need to do for preventive maintainence to drive the car for another 100,000 miles. As I said, I can't afford a new car. Yours sincerely, M Khan
  10. Ed: I am very happy with the parts you sent me. The parts were new and genuine and the price was way less than the dealers were asking in NJ. Regards M Khan
  11. I changed the plugs, wires , Dist caps and Rotors on 1996 LS400 According to the LXLS.com pictures, I was supposed to remove the V belt and the rad hoses. However, it is not necceary to remove the Vbelt. All you need is to drain 1 gal of antifreeze from the petcock. Remove the hoses. You even need not remove the bottom of the pass. side hose. Have 8mm box wrench and the dist cap and rotors will come out easily. My car has 96 K, The dist points were pitted. The rotors were a bit thinned. The car runs great. M KHan

  17. I took my 1996 LS 400 to the stealers ( Lexus service) today for 100,000 mi service to change the timing belt and water pump. The manager called me and reported that the ball joints are shot, the front struts are bad and the ignition wires need replacement. Total cost 2700.00 Do you think the ball joints, struts can be done in a place other than Lexus? Is there a website to buy the items? Thanks in advance. M Khan
  18. Hi All , I am new to the forum. I purchased my Lexus 1996 in 1996, and so far I have been blessed. Almost zero problems. The car has around 95000 mi. A 60000 service was done at the dealer ( stealers) Since the car is not worth a lot, I think it makes sense to do some DYI's. I have worked on cars and know a little bit. My question: What does the car need now or when it turns 100000? Do I need a timing belt replacement? How much does it cost? Can a regular mechanic perform it? Sincerely M Khan
