Ok, first know I am NOT crazy
I have a 2001 GS300 that intermittently plays a short, very high audio quality tune that sounds like something coming out of a music box. It's much better audio than typical warning tones. I'm not sure where it comes from, but appears to eminate from the area around the driver's feet (possibly the driver side door speaker?). So far I haven't found a pattern to when it plays, but once it starts it seems to happen within 30 seconds after I start the car each time THAT DAY, and then it stops. At first it happened only on holidays and I thought it was a cute Lexus gimmick, but it has also happened on non-holidays. Occasionally it has happened while driving. Once, when my grown daughter had the car, she said visual notes appeared on the NAV system screen as it played just as she approached a NAV destination (I haven't personally seen that). I checked to see if it might be related to maintenance due warnings, but that feature was disabled. Lexus service says they know of no such sound, although they said cars sold in Japan do have "special electronic features" that are not normally seen (or heard) in US spec cars..
HELP! Has anyone else every experienced this? Any idea why it happens?
