  1. After taking my 01 IS300 to several shops to address this issue it was determined that the alignment of the car was what is was supposed to be....just that the IS300 has a "natural" inner toe that wears the inside of the front tires...especially if not rotated as recommended! I hope this helps!
  2. What is the BEST method to diagnose the head gasket? Compression test...Chemical test or Infrared test...Pressure test? I've been told that chemical and infrared tests are the best way to diagnose whether or not the head gasket is blown or if there is internal issues with the engine! Thank you!
  3. Worst case scenario...my engine is DONE! It has 180 k on it and my car just broke down on the freeway...I haven't had the chance to have it fully diagnosed. I was told by a shop here in Fresno that the labor to remove and replace this engine is a mind staggering 18 HOURS!!! DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY INFO REGARDING THIS? THANKS!
  4. If it is the head gasket....what can I expect to pay for repairs? What's a fair price? How many hours labor and what's the approx. price for the parts?
  5. I own a 01 IS 300. While driving on the freeway at 70 mph...my car lost all power....steam/smoke everywhere...!!!! Pulled over and opened hood...."white" stuff everywhere....opening to Radiator partially melted...car will not run or start! There is no "milky" substance in the oil. Did I blow a water pump...timing belt...other hose??? Any help would be greatly appreciated! What's my best/worst case scenario??? Is it possible that my engine is blown?? Mileage on the car is 180k and it has never had the timing belt or water pump replaced! Cindy
  6. I haven't done anything yet. I purchased a fuel filter from Kragen and had a buddy who is somewhat mechanically inclined take a look at it up on a hoist. We located the fuel filter behind the rear driver side tire, but it was very difficult to take off and he didn't want to strip it. We also decided not to go any further because the parts person at the local lexus dealership here in Fresno,ca asked me why I was replacing the fuel filter on this car when I called to get a price. She stated that fuel filters are very rarely replaced on this vehicle. Any suggestions??? Please refer to my previous posts under my member name to understand the issue I'm having. Thanks!
  7. Hi, I'm having the same exact issue!!! Very frustrating. The car usually starts when cold and runs great..but when it's warm it is difficult to start, but once it does start it runs great even with the engine warm. Can you instruct me how to replace fuel pump? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated before I take it to the dealer and get ripped!!! Thanks! Sonny
  8. I'm trying to replace my fuel filter and fuel pump due to some starting/stalling issues I'm having with my SC400. Please refer to my previous post. I'd like to know exactly where the fuel filter and fuel pump are located. Are they located underneath on the chassis? Secondly are they easy to replace? Thanks
  9. Not sure how you developed the list of possibilities you're working with, but of the things mentioned only fuel filter seems a possibility. Based on what you've said, forget starter and flywheel - they'd have nothing to do with the engine not starting, except when the engine won't even turn over when you turn the key. Vacuum leak and spark plugs aren't likely to cause the symptom you describe, but if the fuel filter is very dirty, that is a possibility. In general, fuel delivery issues behave similar to your problem - check fuel filter, fuel pump and fuel line first. Fuel itself may be contaminated with water, etc, as well, so a drastic measure may eventually be to drain the tank. On the AC fuse, are you certain you're replacing it with the right size fuse? If so, is it possible the system may have been overcharged with freon so that the compressor is lugging under the resulting high pressure? Thanks for the info! It is much apprciated! Is the fuel filter, fuel pump easy to see/work on? Also the engine always turns over like it wants to start..it just doesn't catch/start every other time. Regarding the A/C system...yes it's possible that I'm using the wrong fuse, but I do think that I used the same number fuse that was in it prior....but I will double check. As for the systme being overcharged with freon...the system hasn't been charged in 3 years. Any further info is appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi, I own a 1992 SC400. The car has been a great car for the past 4 years I've owned it. The only major work I've had to have done is timing belt, water pump, pulleys, tensioners and everything else associated with replacing a timing belt/water pump. The issue I'm having currently with the car is a starting issue. The car will start perfectly at times..especially when the car is cold...I've noticed. Other times the car will not start..but it will turn over like it wants to start...and yet a second later it will turn over for a couple seconds only to die out! Then the car will start up and idle great. All of this occuring within 10 attempted starts...sometimes it starts..sometimes it doesn't..and sometimes it starts and dies out! I'm not mechanically inclined by no means, but issues I've thought it could be are as follows: 1)fly wheel,2)starter,3)vacuum leak,4)fuel filter,5)spark plugs???? My other problem is my A/C system. It works great..blows cold air...but the fuse gets blown for some reason after replacing it with a new one and then of course it doesn't work. Any ideas???? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Sonny
