  1. How did you just cut into the low beam side without smashing the reflectors to pieces, did you use a dremel or something and tape them or what? Also maybe I should just buy a set of headlights out the junk yard or something so if it goes wrong I'm not stuck, heck you can get an aftermarket pair of the halogens on ebay for like 150 new, although they are not OEM so hopefully the fit would ok? Thanks man!
  2. hey man thanks for the response. Yeah I want to retrofit but I'm not sure what all is involved in that. Is that a cheaper way to go? Reading your story sounds like you spent a bunch too, but I figure it is going to cost 700 if I go with those ones on ebay and buy an aftermarket hid kit. How do you retrofit? Do you just take your lights apart and stick the projectors of something else in there? If so how? Do you cut stuff and glue it or pressure fit it or screw it or what? Please let me know, thanks, oh and my lights are just halogen currently, Jason
  3. Hey everyone I have a 2002 Rx300 and really have it where I want it style wise. I added some really nice aftermarket rims and want to class up the headlamps. I really want projection beams with HID low beams. I know people have done this but iam looking for the easiest way. I found these on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RX300-01-03-BLACK-CCFL-Projector-Headlight-LEXUS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c03e55828QQitemZ120324446248QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_1396wt_722 this seems the easiest but I worry a bit about spending 600 on something from tiwan does anyone have any advice on the best way to do this. Oh and I did just look at upgrading to a 330 but it appauledme what the offered me for my car that I really do enjoy.
  4. Hey everyone, So yesterday I took a trip in the 02 RX300 and my clumsy brother was in the back. Within 2 minutes he seems to have smashed the rear cupholder in the middle of the rear bench seat to pieces (not even sure how b/c he must have opened it to bread it with his feet). Anyway they are asking, GET READY FOR THIS, 124.00 for this plastic piece of garbage at my Lexus dealer!!! I laughed when the guy said "oh it is that much", and I told him it looks like something that should cost 3.99 at pepboys (which is suprising to me b/c of how high quality everything else is in the car). Anyway, the cheapest I have found online is about 80.00 at newlexusparts.com but the thought of paying 80 bucks for this thing that I never use seems like a waste. I know you may be thinking, well if you don't use it why fix it, and that is just a thing with me, I don't care that I don't use it I want it fixed. And yes my brother should pay for it, but he won't, just the way he is. I checked a junk yard but the guy said there were only like 12 of these cars nationwide in his system and provided no help to getting a used one. Any ideas on finding one reasonably priced? Thanks in advance!
  5. Ok, I found this and I am confused: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00-01-02...d=p4506.c0.m245 I have seen several of these that say they are the Xenon HID lamp but they look like they have reflectors to me, so how did it come factory with reflector lenses and HID??? I thought all HID had to have projection lamps, am I wrong? I am thinking of retrofitting a couple of projectors into normal lamps, but this looks like the ticket if it works, can anyone help me out? Thanks.
  6. What about for an 02? I know you can get the bulbs/ballast/wiring kits, but what about the actual projection lamps? If you put in just the bulbs you will blind everyone. I have only found 1 seller offering a pair of projection beams and they come from Tawain and they want 600 bucks for them!!! There has to be other companies that sell them but I have not found any, does anyone know of an aftermarket projection headlamp for a decent price?
  7. Yeah that looks bad !Removed!, what is the offset I need, sorry I know nothing about wheels so I want to make sure if I get them I can actually put them on. Thanks, j
  8. Hey man, I really like the 2nd and 3rd pictures! Is the 3rd one yours? It looks like in both of the middle pics the lower "gray" body panels have been painted black. I was thinking about doing these wheels below but cant find any pictures with them on an rx300, do you think they would look good?
  9. Yeah, they are the factory, but these are chrome where mine are aluminum. I actually really like the look of mine, just thought something else might set it off more and apart from the crowd.
  10. Hey everyone. I love my RX, but ever since I bought it, it seems that every other car on the freaking road is an RX lol. Anyway, I was thinking of changing the wheels on the car, and let me state I absolutely do not want some kind of G-ride with 22's or anything, I think that looks really horrible on cars. I have seen a standard 16" rim just like mine but chrome and they look ok, but I was thinking maybe something else would look good but just unsure. The only "rims" I have ever changed on a car was on a 72 Chevelle SS I had back in college and I went with chrome Cragars which really set the car off. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, or better yet, pictures with either different year RX's rims on it or aftermarket I could take a look at? I have an 02' model black RX300. Here is a picture of some that are for sales locally but I don't know if they would look good or not.
  11. Hey everyone. I am missing the little plastic temperature indicator tab that is backlit just above the temperature control knob in the radio/ac head unit. I've been calling around but no junk yard wants to pop one out for obvious reasons, and Lexus told me I would have to buy some whole bezel/screen/vents that went all the way around everything for a cost of 700+ Anyone know where I can get this thing? I think I'm going to have a problem b/c even on the used market no one would be willing to pop the tab out of the head unit to sell seperate. Do I really have to buy a whole radio/ac head unit to get a .10 cent tab? Thanks, J
  12. Yeah, man that looks nice painted one color, I mean I like mine too, but I think a solid color looks a little better. I guess that is why I really like the look of the 330/350's now. I am having body work done to mine as you may remember from my purchasing it thread, and maybe I'll ask them how much more it would be to shoot the lower part black as well. BTW, awesome pic of the chipmunk :)
  13. What an awesome pic!!! I love those trees, I've never been out there and I would love to go. Hey blk_on_blk, is your RX's bottom panel painted black as well, or is it the gray around the bottom? I have the same color on my 02 but my bottom is a dark gray, in the photo yours looks all black to me.
  14. Ozium works great on odors, doesn't cover it eliminates, it was developed for use in hospitals to sanitize the air, it has helped a great deal with a smoke odor from the previous owner.
  15. V, I can not recommend one, however I have looked at several and I am just going to buy one with good feedback from other buyers of the RX300 keys. The one I recently had made is OEM straight from Lexus with my dealer flipping the bill, if anyone else knows a reputable source on ebay it would be appreciated as opposed to "best guess" with feedback. My dealer quoted me 250 + labor to get another master, hahahahaha, yeah right that is robbery!
  16. Thanks for the replies. I checked into the Auto-Rx, it seems like the way to go as a preventative measure, it seems gentle. I youtube some videos of seafoam, man that stuff looks crazy. I really don't want to do anything if nothing is wrong except keep my fluids clean, etc. Why is it on the regular Castrol GTX oil it states "superior sludge protection" yet on the full synthetic it says nothing? Also I heard if you switch to a full synthetic in a used car that has not had synthetic it can cause leaks, I guess from seals shrinking up? Is this true? Is it ok to switch to Full synthetic next oil change?
  17. Lenore, Thanks for the info, I will try that at the next oil change, I was going to start a thread on what is the best "type" of oil to use, can everyone post what they use and why, or does it really matter that much?
  18. Thanks for the reply, I think I'll take your advice.
  19. Just found this on another forum: http://forums.noria.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f...995/m/305601547 where someone was worried about the same thing, thought I'd post his response for anyone like me that may have been worried and wanted to know what it was: "I have a 2001 Camry LE 3.0 with 48,000 miles on it. I have ALWAYS changed the oil at 3,000 miles. 3 days ago I had drained the oil and when I started to pour the new oil into the motor I noticed a hard crusty film about 1/16" to 3/32" thick inside the valve cover oil opening. I scrapped it off and was careful not to let any get into the engine but the space where the oil flows into the engine was restricted so much that the oil drained slowly. I was sure it was part of the sludge problem but after seeing the valve cover removed (by Toyota) it looked like a new engine with my own eyes I wanted to let others know what the tech said. Where you pour the oil into the car is slightly cupped and a small amount of oil can't get into the engine so it sets there and cooks with the high temperature and forms the carbon crust. This will not hurt the engine because it is separated. I was please to find I didn't have the sludge problem but I want to let others know so they will not make the same mistake I did. bcalvary@tampabay.rr.com" Any ideas on how to remove it (if you should) w/o it dropping down in the engine? Should I just leave it alone? Would it hurt at all if some did drop down in there?
  20. Holy hell, thank you for your fast reply to save me from agonizing over this all night lol. So do you just not worry about it? Why is it like that? Oh and how many miles are on your 330, I love the styling on those btw.
  21. I was !Removed! around in the garage tonight with my new to me 02 RX300. I unscrewed the filler cap and saw this "crusty" stuff inside the filler neck. It is very hard to the touch and when I rub my finger hard on it, it comes off "gritty". I have been reading about sludge issues and everyone says you should look for what looks like grease, or goo which this does not, it is like a "burnt on" coating or something that is very gritty to the touch. I have never seen anything like this on any other car I own. I've only had the car about 3 weeks and it is under a 60 day warranty from my local Lexus dealer and it runs and is perfect, I love it. I have not noticed anything at all wrong with the car and the fluids were perfectly clean when I checked the car out before buying and still are. I took a picture for you all to see it. I have read I need to pull the valve cover but I am worried about going through all that if it is not necessary, plus I feel Lexus would need to do it if I was going to have them cover it. I read about a lawsuit which they cover sludge issues for like 8 years or something? Does that apply to used purchases like mine? If so that means I have till 2010, but I do not want to wait if something needs to be done. Again this is like a burnt on coating that is gritty-like in texture, not gooey or greasy at all, I probably wouldn't have thought anything about it except that I have read stuff and am all nervous about it, I would just have figured it for being dried out oil from constantly being poured in the same spot over and over for all these years and drying between oil changes but now I'm not so sure. :( Any advice would be appreciated, I am unsure how to even proceed if it does need to be looked at b/c I am sure my warranty doesn't cover "it might be a problem", just if it IS a problem. I'm thinking about a way to have Lexus look at it and tell me what it is without my salesman knowing so they won't look over it you know. Their techs changed the oil the day I bought it and I didn't hear anything about it, but then again that was b/c I was buying it maybe. Thanks for any guidance.
  22. Yes that was me, and they draged it way out past what they said, but I started calling him everyday and he finally got it worked out. They were not going to charge me for the computers (which we ended up not doing obviously) but I had to stay on them.
  23. I'll just give an update since this thread got bumped. My new master/transponder key came in at the dealer, my salesman (which is laughable how little he knows about these cars) said the key was done and to come pick it up, and I said well it is cut but not programmed. "oh no, it is completely ready to go", I just laughed and said ok, and of course it was NOT programmed as there is no way to do it without a master, but anyway...So their techs take 30 minutes working on the car and then the service manager comes out and says "well I think this is going to take a long time, these older rx's (mine is an 02) have special keys that "this and that" BS and I said, well, I can show you several places on the internet where people can do it in their driveway in a couple of minutes so I am not sure what you are talking about, and she says "those are only on new rx's" and I said "no, it can be done on all of them", so anyway about an hour later I get my car with a working master/transponder thank goodness, so I now have the master/transponder a valet, and the master credit card key. I am going to get another master/transp. and valet off ebay and have them cut at a local locksmith and then program them myself. It is amazing to me though how everyone I have run into at this dealer, from my salesman to parts, to serice, to parts and service managers and even technicians seem to just make up what is wrong when that do not know, or are stuck on coming up with the correct way to do things, I hope this isn't how they are on everything but it sure was on the keys, sheesh <_<
