  1. rc, Assuming your car should be getting better gas mileage.... Resetting the ECU will not make any difference in your fuel mileage... that's a myth. There are a number of factors that will effect fuel mileage - in a mechanically sound engine - engine tune will be very important. You could have a bad O2 sensor, a clogged CAT converter, partially plugged fuel injectors, a bad batch of fuel, a sensor could be failing, and list goes on. You need to find out what the dealer did to the car before you bought it. Did they perform a "tune-up"? Were the fluids changed? Did the dealer replace the air filter, spark plugs, etc.? Were they any codes showing up? Is there a maintenance history? Driving style can have a serious effect on fuel mileage. Is the car idling for long periods? Are you hauling around a trunk full of paper or other stuff? Did your "road trip" cover climbs in elevation? I'd put a can of Berryman Chemtool B-12 into a full tank of fuel - that might help clean the injectors - can't hurt. Under inflated tires can cause a drop in fuel mileage. If you think the MPG is too low, then take the car back to the dealer and ask them to check it out. That's just my worthless opinion. :D Thanks Randy! I'll look into all of these. I'm gonna have the dealer look at it and we'll see what happens.
  2. I have around 48,550 miles on it. Since I bought it last week from a Lexus dealer I just "assumed" the tire pressure would be normal. Shame on me :)
  3. Hi everyone, I wanted to know if the ECU reset works? I just purchased an '05 and am concerned about my mileage. I took a road trip and got about 22mpg, however I just filled up a couple days ago and have been driving on streets/highway and only got 55 miles in my first 1/4 tank!!! I just purchased the car last week from a Lexus dealer. I found some threads about improving gas mileage and read all the responses. I want to try resetting the ECU, however the link to the tutorial is inactive (I just saw it a couple days ago). Can anyone give me instructions on how to do this? I think the tutorial said something about pumping the breaks 10 times... Also, do I need to clean any sensors or use Gumout or a fuel additive like other members have tried (and received good results)? Otherwise, I love my car! Just need to get the mileage up a little higher! Thanks for your help :)
  4. Thanks everyone. I'm trying not to sweat the gas mileage, and I do know it's premium gas (ouch). I'd still like to know what gas mileage everyone is getting though. I'm a female and don't plan to add any major mods (sorry guys), but I would like to know if anyone has ever changed the gearshift. I'd also like to know where I could get a spoiler put on for a decent price in southern california. And of course I'm gonna get some nice rims :) You all are awesome!
  5. Thanks for your input. I talked to a lexus service manager today who has an '04 and he said he gets about 22-24. I can live with that. I went to see the car tonight and it's awesome. Very clean! though I believe this is a good price, I still tried to talk him down below the 16K but he wouldn't budge. I'll probably go back tomorrow to get it. I welcome input from other LOC members. Thanks!
  6. Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this form and I really love it! I've been researching the IS300's for a while and am pretty sure I want to buy one. My dilema is with the gas mileage. 18/22 is what I believe is advertised, but I'm wondering how that translates into today's prices. I've read many owner reviews where on the scale of 1-10(highest), owners have rated the fuel economy as low as 2 and as high as 8. 6&7's were pretty common. I currently have a '94 Integra (auto) which has a higher mileage rating that the IS, but because I have so many miles on it, (222K) the mileage has slipped a bit which will makes it difficult for me to compare the two. I'd appreciate finding out what mileage you guys are getting. I'm nervous I won't be happy with the gas mileage. I know how you drive makes a difference, but your input will still be valuable. I'd also like to find out your experience with cost of ownership. Is maintenance expensive?? Oh, I plan to purchase a 2004 with about 53K miles. I found one for under $16K and I've checked both carfax and autocheck...clean title! What do you think? Thanks, in advance, for your help!!
