  1. Is the car actually revving up, or is it about to stall, and then recovers thus increasing rpm suddenly?

I have a 99 GS300 and am the third owner. Am very happy with it, however, 3 times the car has jumped forward while I had stopped at a light and even though my foot was firmly on the brake. I thought I imagined it until the same thing happened to my BF. I am sure that no mechanic will be able to duplicate this so I am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and if they got it fixed.

  2. Headlight removal involves removing the whole front bumper.

    Remove push pins on top.

Remove bolts that hold on headlight/bumper

Remove bolts that hold on undercarriage shields

Remove 2 bolts that hold front quarter fenders to front bumper

Remove bolt that holds bumper to upper fender

    Remove fog light connectors

    Remove clearance light connectors

You can then remove the hidden bolt to the headlights to remove

I've been trying for the past 3 days to adjust the headlight on my car.. but i guess the little screw on the top are broken because the turn to nothing and the headlight doesnt move.. so i need to remove the headlight itself and try to do it from the inside..

but i've taken of 3 bolt holding the headlight..

my question is.. is there a clip or a 4th bolt holding it in place.. because i cannot remove the damn headlight.. i cannot figure out which it is..!

    Thanks

  3. That shouldn't be an issue. If there is uneven wear, there is a problem like stuck caliper piston or caliper binding. Unevenness could cause a squeak, but also can worn shims, too much lateral runout on rotors, thin pads, etc.

Ive been having this rotational squeeking on my breaks not sure back or front and i took my car to the shop to demonstrate what i was hearing. every time i did this it wouldnt squeek while being test droven so they looked at it and told me that on the driver side back breaks they are uneven and that may cause the sound that im hearing. im asking you all is it possible that its uneven because of my weight ? im 6'5 like 320 ... thanks for your knowledge on this.
  4. I have a 2002 IS300 with 32,000 miles. I not only have the sticky airbag, but the dash is getting funny too. I took it to the dealer I purchased the car from and asked them if they could get Lexus to pay for replacement of the whole dash and airbag. Haven't heard back from them yet. Looked on automotix.com and dash assy is $335 with free shipping. Airbag is more, found a new one on ebay for $375. It's an expensive proposition. Am looking into some sort of dash cover as a last resort.

  5. I ended up fixing the problem. In the process I realized I have been using the wrong terminology. I was under the impression that the speed sensor and the ABS sensor were the same thing. That is not the case. From what I have been told, the speed sensor is located near the transmission, while the ABS sensor is by the wheels. The ABS sensor is the issue for me. Sorry for the confusion. Anyways, I really didn't want to pay the 300 some odd bucks for the new ABS sensor from Lexus, so since I knew I that the problem was isolated to my front driverside ABS sensor, I took that out, and cut back the jacket/shielding and traced the 2 wires from the connector to the sensor. In the process, I found that there was a split in the wires right before the sensor. I bought some heatshrink, 24awg stranded wire, and soldered some new wires in replacement. Added heatshrink and LOTS of electrical tape. Making sure I had that 1.5-1.6kohms resistance across the newly soldered wires, I put that jacket/shielding back on, and put some more electrical tape before re-installing back onto the vehicle. I put loads upon loads of electrical tape for fear of moisture/water leaking through and shorting out the wires. I started up the car and drove a couple blocks, and the lights came off. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I have found that electrical tape outside in the elements near wheels and such usually ends up sucking up all the moisture it can get and locking it inside the tape. It's better just to leave it out in the elements if you heat shrinked or an alternative would be liquid electrical tape that would seal it up without the seams.

  6. Probably removing and reinstalling is what did it. Sometimes connections just get old and you have to unplug and plug to get them tight. A good example, some of my lights would not work like courtesy stuff. Well these were doors I never open cuz it's just me opening the driver door. I worked them a hundred times and they came back to life.

  7. The interior color would seem to be the deciding factor in these two closely matched cars. If you like black (I think it's more elegant) than silver's your choice. If you like the light interior (good for southern locales) than the black cherry. The 2003 is the better value though, and because they have essentially the same mileage, it's certainly a better value and theoretically would have less problems. ;)

IMHO go for the black interior. i would kill to change mine to black interior!

Why don't you buy BenjaminT's black leather interior?

  8. Usually this will mean you are running lean. It's best to check for simple things first. Do you have an intake air leak? Try spraying carb cleaner around vacuum lines, throttle body to intake, and such. Low fuel pressure (clogged fuel filter). Of course, timing is always a suspect. The computer can compensate for a lot, but if something is worn out or sticking, the computer can only make up for so much.

  9. Take a picture of what you're talking about. Usuallly you can get a new plastic insert to hold the screw. In any case, you don't need a new bumper. Supposing that the bumper is egged out and you can't get a new fitting to stay, you could always use a screw clip and move the screw over a little bit to hold it. Or a body shop can repair the plastic on the bumper to like new. There are many things you can do. A picture of your situation would help.
