My 99 rx300 transmission just died a couple of days ago. I had purchased the car in Dec 2001 with 85K and expected the reputable Lexus reliability. Not to be! buyers beware! I am now seeing more internet mention of these failures and backordered tranny's. Anyone know what gives? Should there be recourse with Lexus if this is widespread. Do I have a prayer fighting this. Is 118K 'average' for a tranny on a $40k auto?Can you recommend any forums for further discussion? Thanks Steve

To Jon in Raleigh, You stated that Lexus agreed to replace your wife's RX300 tranny. What was the mileage and circumstance. I have a '99 that I've owned for only the last 35k of 118k . but I bought with the Lexus reliability in mind , not knowing there was a 'short' life span of the tranny.. Please let me know if you think I have any recourse. This is quite a surprise to find out that proper maintenance will not get 150-200K on a Lexus transmission. Thanks
