  1. Well this topic seems to keep appearing ever since I figured mine out, there is a heater hose at the back of the block, you cannot see the base of it unless you lay on the motor and look down with a flashlight, it is a little tough to get to which is why I am sure not many have been replaced, it comes up from the center, and turns towards the passenger side of the car and leads to the heater core. You won't think that it is the problem at first since you cannot see around the entire hose, but it will blow, you won't think that it is coming from there but more than likely it is. Take a look. Jared
  2. Ok, Now that I figured out my dumb A$$ mistake, I had put the coil wire on the 7 plug position and the 7 on the coil, needless to say the coil was bad! Replaced and it started up and ran like a champ, now though it is back to where it was and runs great for a few miles, then it runs rough in low RPM, when I open it up and it catches up it runs awesome. It does seem to run fine when it is in park and like I said it started out fine in drive but then started running worse when it warmed up. Any ideas on that one?
  3. Ok, changed all the vacuum hoses, looked around at everything, don't think the coils are bad, started it up and noticed that the Tach goes down instead of up, car still runs rough, wondering if I didn't get something reversed, any ideas on that one? Thanks!
  4. Hadn't thought of that, but possible, why would it just go bad though? I will check it when I get a chance. Thanks, Jared
  5. I am thinking that it may be a relay from what I was reading in other posts, I need to find the right one to reset unless the battery pulled would have done it all and I am just missing something. Plus the burning smelled more like oil then antifreeze burning. Thanks Though!
  6. Ok, I replaced the caps and rotors, put it all back together, plugged the battery back in, replaced the fuel filter still is running like it is low on power, the exhaust sounds louder when I rev it up like it's not running on all 8, no smoke out of the exhaust. There is something dripping down and burning though from the back of the motor. Can anyone offer any advice? I just don't get how it would start to lose power and get worse, the only major thing I can think I did was try and start it without the air intake on. (Forgot to do that before I started it last time) Engine light is not on at this time. Thanks Jared
  7. Hey all, Ok, I have been plugging away on my first sc400 thanks to all your help the steering wheel moves up and down in and out, the steering has no more play in it, found the water leaks and repaired. Car was running good and after a while started to run a little rough like it was missing at low speed, higher revs it ran great, changed spark plugs, cleaned the caps and rotors (ordered new ones) Started the car before I put the intake tube back on and the engine light came on, turned the car off, pulled the battery, put the tube back on and now it runs like it has half power. Any ideas? I tried to pull the ECU fuse by the kick panel ( think it was in position 13) but it didn't help, I read about changing the fuel filter, may look at that next and currently have the battery pulled to reset. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks AGAIN!
  8. Replaced the bushing today on mine, it took a couple of parts places but I got 2 for 60 bucks. Of course it only needs one but it cleared up the issue! Steers like a champ.
  9. Has anyone had to change their oil pan gasket and did you have to remove any suspension to get the pan off?
  10. Sorry, I have been out the past few weeks & too much work. No there is no white smoke from the tail pipe. Here's the status. After I filled the coolant around end of May, I've not had to fill it further. There may be a slow leak - on occasion, when I open the hood, I see a small puddle on the undercarriage. Actually, now that you mention it, the a/c has become weak though it does blow a bit of cold air. The hot air still comes on at about 76 deg (I would expect it at 71 - Seattle weather was rainy / cold couple of weeks back). Basically, the problem remains unresolved, and it seems to be on a "slow burn". I will post pics in the next posting -- car's not here right now. Thanx for all your responses. Expect to be more regular with replies. I just had the same problem in my SC400, It ended up blowing steam when I couldn't find the leak, found that it was the hose by the firewall at the back of the engine. It was tough to get to but it fixed the problem. I believe that it runs to the heater core which would explain why your not getting heat. I had tried to run the defrost to keep it cool when it was overheating but no heat was coming out since the path was open and the coolant couldn't flow. You really can't see the bottom of the hose unless your right over it so it is hard to detect, I Strongly suggest just replacing it as it is one that would get left since it is hard to get to. Hope this is helpful.
  11. Thanks, I will have to check that. I just found that I have an oil leak behind the balancer and I have been losing antifreeze but cannot find where from, I am assuming the water pump. It has not overheated and nothing in the oil thank goodness.
  12. AWESOME! Thanks, it worked like a charm!
  13. I Tried this link but it came back with an error. I am having the same problem with my car. Thanks
  14. Man am I happy I found this site. I just purchased a pretty decent 93 SC400 at a price I don't want to brag about. I have noticed several things that I want to address as soon as possible. First the steering seems to have some play in it, it takes about a quarter turn sometimes to catch in a curve, it's a little nerve wracking. Second it seems to have an oil leak somewhere in the middle, haven't been able to get under it yet. Third it seems to run great and then it will Shudder for a while before clearing up. I had to pull the fuse for the dome lights as it was draining the battery, haven't found the short yet but I did notice that when it was in the steering wheel would only go back and forth and not up or down. Other than that I LOVE THIS CAR! Oh, I need to find a manual. Any help is most certainly appreciated.
