I am in the process of buying some brake pads. The guy at the brake shop told me that Ceramics go on the back, and semi-metallics go on the front. That didn't make sense to me so I asked a mechanic friend of mine. He says that Ceramics go on the front, and semi-metallics go on the back. I figured that I could put semi-metallics on the front and back. Any one know the correct specification. Thanks

Thanks Twinturbo619! I will do it this weekend. As for Guytel, I have changed the plugs, the brakes, and oil. I am not a damn mechanic by trade, but I do wish to do somethings myself. I am not an automobile scientist like my brethren so I am not afraid to ask for help. I am pretty sure that you started somewhere at the bottom of the totem pole like I am doing now. Thanks

I contacted the dealer, and they said that the service manual's prices are as follows: $180.00 FOR VOLUME 1 , $210.00 for volume 2,and $90.00 FOR VOLUME 3 I am wondering if I can use one of those general Chilton Import Manuals to do some of the basic work like alternators, and spark plugs.

I was told by two separate car shops that the labor cost of replacing my timing belt was $550. Does that seem a little excessive to pay for the labor? The belt only cost me 50 dollars, but I am expected to pay 550 for labor. Does anyone know of an instructional manual that I can use myself?

I am in the process of purchasing spark plugs. My car has 69000 miles on it. I have a 98 GS400. I asked a mechanic friend of mine about the plugs. He says that platinum will work just fine even though the manual states that I have to use Iridium. What will happen to my car if I use the platinum instead of the iridium? Also, the diagram in the manual shows a double tipped plug, but the Iridium I researched only has one tip. Can I get away with one tip?

I am having a serious problem. I started my car yesterday morning, and the car bearly turned over. It was around 55 degrees outside. I am not sure if it is the battery, or the starter. Or maybe it could be the spark plugs. Well, I put the car in Drive, and I hit the gas. The car didnt move. I gassed it a little more, but it barely pulled away from the curb. I then put the car in reverse, and it reversed ok. Then I put the car back in drive, and it barely accelerated. Then as I pulled around the corner, it gained power, and was ok for the rest of the day. I dont know if there are a lot of reasons why this happened. Has this happened to anyone else?
