Would anyone be willing to sell or trade their GS yellow fog lamps for my clear ones? I know everyone's looking for them but I've got to ask. Thanks!
Chris
can you just get the bulbs from the IS or new GS and swap them into a first gen? Sorry to hijack your thread

A little over a year ago I paid considerably more for a '93 GS300 with 100,000 miles on it. I am more than happy with this car - my first Lexus. It is smooth, quiet, and fast. I really like the handling when you need to quick high-speed manuevers. 22mpg on the highway. And it seems to be a rather rare and I think beautiful style on the roads these days. I guess you'd better check the carfax, etc, but I think I got my money's worth, and I am now a TOTAL Lexus fan!
Good Luck,
Dennis - Santa Rosa, CA
i ran the carfax...it has a salvage title...that would do it...
i asked the dealer. they said it was hit on the passenger side by a minivan and recently fixed. it drives ok, but he said the B-pillar had to be replaced, so i am VERY cautious. i havent totally ruled it out yet, but...
I picked up mine for 6 with 124k, just about perfect condition, 110k maint. done, clean title...its got 130 now and i am very, very happy with it. I would say find another, the salvage will KILL you on resale value to anyone who's not a moron, and once they become this cheap, they hold their value very well, turning out to be a great investment

Thanks everyone who replied. Does anyone know how to send a message to people who posted? (I tried the "PM" button, but it just gives me an error).
Anyways, in response to NEO's comments:
Every thing will fit and 16s as a spare will be fine. That said, I would not do it. The IS wheels are 17x7 while the GS wheels are 16x7.5. What will happen is that the IS wheels will be a bit more recessed in the wheel well. I don't think that looks as good plus you are getting a narrower wheel.
Will that be a big or noticeable difference?
For a novice like me, can someone tell me what the 7 in 17x7 refers to? (I know the 17" is the diameter of the rim)
But what is the 7 vs 7.5---is that the width of the rim? If so, will that extra .5 (inches?) be a big difference?
Thanks.
I dont think it looks too bad at all, plus you can also add spacers

Turning the traction control off for better traction seems counterintuitive...I'd have to have a substantial reason to believe and try that one.
I too suggest keeping the TCS on, seeing as when its raining and i take it off, the car gets sideways any time i try to turn, and bringing back a 3000+ pound car from a full out drift isnt the easist thing to do :D

Hello:
I have a 2002 GS 300 with stock aluminum 16" rims.
A friend has a 2001 IS 300 with stock 17" rims.
Does anyone know if I can put his rims on my car?
I don't know if the bolt pattern, fit, etc. is the same.
The picture of the rims I want to put on are below.
If the rims are a fit, is it as simple as changing a tire?
Do I need to have my tires re-balanced and my alignment checked again?
Since I'm only getting 4 rims, can I still use my stock 16" full sized spare if I get a flat? Will that affect the driving?
Can I still use my same lug nuts and wheel locks or do I have to get the ones from him?
Thanks ahead of time for any help!
yea, the bolt pattern is the same, I got some tires that are the same diamater tire, so the spare works fine with it. I also used the stock gs lugs and locks, but they look terrible and i need some new ones. When you get the tires put on, you will deff. need them balanced, and an allignment wouldnt hurt. Mine drives great with the new wheels, and I just swapped them out, but some spacers in the rear are soon to come.
(Note:i have them on a first gen, but the 2nd gen pattern is still 5x114.3)

to ask a benz question but its pretty general so maybe some of you could help me out.well, i was driving my aunts ML320 today and stopped and shut the car off, when i came back and turned it on, the "bose" display that shows up on the Navi screen did not show up as usual, but all the buttons were luminated. Any guesses on whats the problem, and what should I do, if its somethin easy like a fuse ill just switch it, but anything much more might as well just take it to the dealer cus its still under warranty. Any help would be appreciated.

Another thing to check that a lot of shops miss is that a lot of rotor machining equipment leaves the rotor with a dirrectional finish, which causes the pad to form a spiral like scoring, and each time the brake is applied the pads slide up as if you were tightening a screw, and then have to release to slide back down, which causes pulsation during braking. All you have to do is by hand take sand paper and leave a nondirectional finish by rubbing it in ovals, sort of like buffing a car.
just an easy tip that can save you a lot of hastle in the long run :)

Jay Z is drivin a first gen GS in one of his newer songs, I dont know the name, because I think he's jackass.

i'd do a nice suspension set up first... et=1% car power, 1% driver skill, and 98% traction.. :)
-
Thanks for the advice
I'm pretty sure im gonna go slotted, the IS300 wheels show the rotors pretty well, and I love how they look. I should have some pics up in a couple weeks..

well, my stock rotors are too warped to turn, so its time for a new set of rotors... my mechanic quoted me for 175 a pair, for blank rotors.
i looked around a little online, and found these:cross drilled and slotted rotors
which would be about 200 a pair(after CD'd and slotted combo + clear coat), and are suposed to work fine with original pads/calipers.
My question is, does anyone have any experience with these rotors? They seem a bit cheap for good rotors, but that could just be me. I'd love to get the CD'd and slotted, but am worried about poor quality and reliability? What do you think? all suggestions welcome, thanks!

whew... thats a high price for a car in that condition... 10k should get you a lot of lexus
-
you could always try an SC or GS if you're looking for sporty/fun drivability

it'll be hard to get the hp/tq of the V8 with bolt ons... Turbo is going to be your most efficent way of getting comparable (probably much more) power to a V8. low end torque will never be like that of the v8, but boost it, and I doubt you'll ever look back :)

there's a cheap grille on ebay... its like 30 bucks, the pictures dont look bad, but you get what you pay for, so ill way for a good LOC review :)
-
lol i didnt mean to direct that to you... It was more of like "what power gains come from this"
-
Why would anyone supercharge the 2jz?? I would say the turbo route has proven itself a few times

DAMN YOU SKPERFORMANCE, DAMN YOU!!! YOU TALK ALL THIS *BLEEP* ABOUT KUMHO TIRES AND THEN TODAY WHEN I GO OUTSIDE ONE OF MY KUMHO's HAS 11 LBS OF PRESSURE IN IT!!

Heh, im afraid to drive my lexie on MO roads, what about u alexR? you gotta admit that the roads are terrible.
I live in Springfield, there's like 200,000 people, its not the roads, its the traffic. But yea, there are some pretty weak rural roads around here.

same same, 135 in my 11 year old lexus. With 3 other people in the car. At 9 in the morning. It was fun. :)

Raymore, Missouri Grandpa? Heck, no one down there has a Lexus... ;)

if you are considering a kuhmo then you are being cheap
they are the worst garbage tire on the face of the each ,lots of rice mobiles have them as tehy want rims but can;t afford to get proper tires ,so they stick garbage kuhmo's on
if you want something cheap try anything but a kuhmo tire
I for one, am taking your post to heart, and going to seriously consider getting new tires. I was new to the wheel/tire market when i bought them... thanks for the advice, sk.

I would agree, the black would look the cleanest.
