  1. Unless you already have the front lip on there, no, it's part of the bumper. But the good news is that's an easy fix. If you put your hand just above where the scratches are, that part is actually part of the mesh grill insert there. YOu can easily pop that off, and sand that front area with 220, then 1000, then a 2000 rub, and have it repainted. Put the lower grill back in and you would never know it ever happened. If you pulled the grill yourself, did the sanding, and took it to a paint shop, I wouldn't imagine them charging more than 50 bucks to repaint it. The Obsidian Black is a single stage paint, all you need is the paint color code, and to find someone who uses good quality urathane paints and knows what their doing. If you just wanted to take it in and have it done I think you might spend $150 (ish) bucks.

Thanks smooth1 ... Will let u know how it turns out.

  2. Hey guys ... messed up my front bumper on my IS250 today by overrunning the parking space. The bottom portion of the front bumper got caught on the curb and it left some very visible scratches almost all along the front bumper! :(

any of you out there had the same experience? any idea how to get rid of this mess? do i need to replace the entire bumper?

  3. Hey guys ... been a proud owner of a 2007 IS250 for the past 6 months or so. Love the car so far and am very happy overall. The car handles well and I find it reasonably responsive (as much as a 200hp car can be). One gripe I do have is that I have felt that the transmission shifts during acceleration is not as seemless and smooth that I would like it to be. You can almost physically feel the car changing gears as you push on the gas pedal. Drove a Lincoln Mercury the other week (rental while out of town on business) ... really felt it accelerate smoothly with no hesitency (although otherwise the car was crap). Anyone else have the same experience with the IS250? Or is this an isolated issue with my car and have it checked? Any input will be appreciated!

The IS is designed to be a sport/luxury vehicle. It is also a relatively small car, and as a result of those two points, you will feel more of the shift than you would in a larger luxury car. What did you drive, a Lincoln, or a Mercury? What model was it? The size, power, and suspension would make a big difference in the feedback you got from the car. Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles have been notorious for having pretty mushy suspensions, with the exception of the Mustang, and maybe the new Mark and 500 platforms.

That said, I have to also say that I don't feel the shifts in my '08 250 very much, unless I have my foot deep into the long skinny pedal... but then, when I do that, I am usually taking the revs up, and paddle shifting. However, when I am driving more aggressively, I do notice a lag between depression of the gas pedal, and reaction of the car. Part of that is the traction control. In new cars with auto trans, it is very difficult to spin the rear wheels... but I digress.

Correction: It was a Mercury Milan. I guess I will have it checked on my next service date.

  5. I had the lexus dealer disable it when i took delivery of the car. It was initially useful on my mercedes, but thankfully you can turn it off on the merc in the settings menu system. I got sick and tired of people telling me I left my lights on, and trying to explain to them that they turn off by themself.

It amazes me that stuff like that MUST be ajusted by the dealer. GM cars, for example, have a dash knob that can adjust the light sensitivity. There's just no good reason they can't make some of those things driver adjusted--especially light sensitivity and auto shut off.

man ... you folks are some of the laziest bloggers i have come across in this website! just press the damn lock key TWICE on the key fob and the lights will go off immediately! quit your whining like the Republicans! :P

  6. hey guys ... it's time for my 15K miles scheduled maintanence and a couple of Lexus dealers in my area are quoting me approx. $280 for getting the scheduled maintanence done. Does this quote sound reasonable? Or should I opt for just changing the oil and filters and ignore the other minor areas that Lexus recommends looking into while taking the car in for the scheduled maintanence? Any input would be appreciated!

  7. Well, I just went into the garage to double check, I have an 08, and the spokes are the same, my finish is the darker silver, but they are the same pattern and mine are definately 18's. So maybe they make the same spoke pattern in both 17 and 18's. The only way to settle that is to get a close up pic of it and see.

attached is a picture from the Lexus website of the 18" rims ... my 17" have 10 spokes, while - if i can count right - the 18" have 15 spokes! i personally like the 18"s for its darker shade ... anyway i can change the colors besides having to spray paint them? B)

    That's the accessory wheel

18-in ISP Mode alloy wheels with 18-in tires

There are also the G-Spider wheels

But the wheels Smooth1 has pictured are the factory optional 18 inch wheels.

    Ah! lesson learnt!

haha! that was quick! agreed .... those are 18"s! anyway, i can change my 17"s shade to a darker tone?

  10. Hey Everyone,

I just got an '07 350 a month ago. Its Smokey Granite Mica w/ a Grey Interior. It has the 18" rims. I am considering painting my brake calipers. The first color that comes to mind is red but I just wanted to get everyone's opinion. I think it might look really cool and sporty but on the other hand it might look a bit overdone since I don't have any of the body packages on except for the rear spoiler.

I'm also open to suggestions for different colors as well. What do you all think? I attatched a couple pics of my car to share as well. It was raining so they aren't the best quality but I live in Portland so I guess thats just normal! :-)

nice one! but correct me if I am wrong ... but your rims look like they are the standard 17" ...

The spokes look like the 18's that I came on mine.

the spokes on my IS250 looks exactly the same as the ones on Scorpios ... and mine are no 18"s

  12. Agree: It's amazing just how much apparent "volume" and "oomph" a powerful sub can add to a stock audio system.

Have either of you guys done this with your respective IS's? If I decide on adding a sub ... I dont think I have the necessary know-how to do it myself ... so will have to take it to Best Buy or some place like that. But not really sure whether I should trust the "certified crew" to mess with the wiring on my IS.

  13. Remember the thread about the kid who went for a joy ride with his buddies ? RIP. HEY GUYS LET'S GO DRIFTIN IN MY NEW LEX. Need I say more. The moral of the story is "Search threads involving kids with new fast cars" Sad to be for sure.:cries:

Man, that is one of saddest new clips I've seen. That tragic event should be replayed in every high school in America, with a mandatory attendance!!

Maybe every car forum should have it as a sticky.

not a bad idea at all ... truly tragic! living in Atlanta ... I get to see many senseless idiots driving recklessly on the highway.

  14. i have read many posts here where you guys seem to be perfectly happy with the stock sound system in the IS250/350. To be honest, I was very disappointed. There is really no "OOmpff" in those 13 speakers and the sound quality is far from "crystal clear."

Any of you guys added an after-market amplifier? I dont wanna go all out ... but something decent sized would suffice for my needs. Any suggestions for a decent after market amplifier would be appreciated.

  15. I just had Discount Tire put on a set of Continental Extreme Contact 225/40x18 and 255/40x18. They are new so they are very smooth and quiet. I'll know more in about 15K or 20K miles. The factory Bridgestone Potenzas still had 1/32" of wear left, according to Discount Tire at 34, 850 miles. Even though you can't rotate the tires, and the fronts started cupping at around 20K miles, I'm not completely dissatisfied with the Potenzas, considing they are a 140 Tread Life rated tire. The Conti's are 400 Rated!! We'll see how they do and I'll post a note in about 12 months or so. Again, this 2006 IS250 is driven by my wife, who drives 80% freeway (approximately 50 to 60 miles per week day) and is definately not a hot-rodder. I saw the Goodyear F-1 Eagles in the store and I like the rim protector style and the outer edge of the tire sticks out beyond the rim, so this would provide added protection against damaging the expensive chrome wheels. BUT, it's rated tread life is 280 and it's about 30% higher cost. :(

is this the first time you are changing the tires? I was under the impression that the factory installed tires last only 20K miles.

  16. hey guys! wanted to find out whether it is necessary to warm up the engine on the IS by letting the engine run for like 5 minutes in the morning before driving off? I remember my dad used to say to always warm up the engine back in the days in order to protect the engine ... not really sure whether that still holds true for cars like the IS these days since they have come a long way since then! any input would be appreciated!

  17. I drive with the Power ECT on all the time...

    Manolo1 -

I'm curious how this has impacted your MPG City/Hwy? Please share.

    BaddBoi

How would I know if I drive all the time with the ECT on?

My guess is that it is totally inmaterial as all you get is faster response and that should amount to -at most- 2%-3% worse mileage...

Manolo1 - I believe what Baddboi was trying to get at was what MPG you get with the Power ECT mode so that he could compare to his mileage.
