  1. any idea where I can find the TSB so I can have a printed copy when I take the car to the dealer?

    Thanks

    Ravi

This is caused by warped rotors. Either have the rotors cut, or have them replaced. At 30K miles the pads should be replaced also. In other words, a brake job.

I think that there was a TSB for this problem in the '03 ES, so maybe you can convince your Lexus dealer to do this under warranty.  ;)

  2. The car is less than 2 years old and less than 30K miles on it. I have not even taken it for a brake inspection. Should I?

    Thanks

How many miles on this set of brakes?

The last time you had your brakes done did you just change the pads or pads and rotors?

If it was just pads then did they cut the rotors? If not then thre is uneven wear between the pads and rotors which is causing the vibrating you are getting.

I would probably get the brakes checked out.

  3. steviej : could you please send me the pointer about the tutorial you are talking about?

    Thanks

BTW what is that tranny drain plug?

The tranny plug is the drain plug for the transmission fluid.

This is even easier than doing and oil and filter change. I do a drain and fill every 15k miles. Look in the tutorial section for the thread I post on this. It's on page two in that section.

    Now thats a clean underside!

thanks, not bad for for 45,000 miles at the time of that picture.

  4. ford212.809: where can I get the toyota filter for $4-6? On the Toyota's website?

    Thanks

    Ray

With your car being a '03, I recommend staying with a Toyota filter

at least until the powertrain warranty expires.  This will save you a

possible hassle from the stealer if a problem occurs. You can get

these filters online for $4-6.  As for the oil, any major brand will do.

Be very sure you use the viscosity recommended in your owners

manual.  My personal favorite filter for over 20 years is Wix.

  5. Hi: This is the first time I am planning to change the oil and oil filter on my 2003 Lexus ES300 myself. Does anybody have recommendation on which oil filter to use? I was checking some websites. The oil filter prices vary from $3 (FRAM PH3614) to $11 (FRAM DG3614) and the dealer charges $12. I intend not to go to syntetic oil.

    any thoughts/suggestions?

    Thanks

  6. Hi: I followed the instructions in the owner's manual to replace cabin air filter. In step 2, after I removed the 2 pins and lowered the glove box, a 3-4inch cylindrical piston like structure (made of plastic) fell off. Now that I installed the new filter, I have no idea where this thing goes. I think this is the piece which provides the slow movement control for the glove box. Anybody have any suggestions. I will try to get picture of this piece tonight.

    TIA

  7. I purchased my Lexus ES300 from this dealer. The sales guy lied to me that lexus will offer free oil change for life. My bad that I didnot get anything in writing b'cos I just assumed all luxury cars come with this. So beware if you are being told the same thing. get it in writing.

  8. I used to be an owner of Toyota Camry for 5 years and I always went to jiffy lube for the 3000 mile oil change. I have purchased the ES300 last year. I took it to the jiffy lube and they changed the oil. But they mentioned I have to take it to the dealer to check the air filter. The dealer charges $60 for this 3000 mile maintanence service (oil change and other services).

Just wanted to run these questions by other users:

    1. what do other lexus users do? Do you always take it to the dealer

    2. Is it recommended to take it to the dealer only?

    Thanks

    Ravi

  9. Hi: The light with words "Check" underneath it has come on in my 2002 ES300. I have seen various number of posts with similar problem. But looked like most of them were older cars. Any suggestions on what might be going on? Just want to have some idea before I take it to the dealer tomorrow. Also if there is problem with the parts, will the work be covered under the warranty?

    Thanks

    Ravi
