  1. Hhhmmmm.....this may be a bit off topic, but speaking of brakes and rotors......any opinions about using ceramic brakes? Any opinions about replacing the original factory rotors with slotted rotors instead? Is this recommended?

    Thanks.

  2. I just lost my only remote-enabled master key to my 1990 LS400. Dealerships want $245 for a replacement, in addition to $140 for labor to reprogram / install the new chip.

    $400.00 !!!!......for a $10 key with Radio Shack technology??!!! It's a shameful money-grab. :censored:

OK, so do I have any less expensive viable alternatives if I want to maintain the ability for remote entry?

I'd appreciate some constructive feedback. Thanks.

  3. Ok for those of you who have expressed an interest with using the Lexus factory phone options with your current phone, I have the answer. I have built several adaptor kits for the 90-95 Lexus LS400. Let me know what your interest is in this product This device will allow you to use the factory mute, H/F speaker and microphone, 12V switched power, 12V power, & ground. Also I can make kits by request that can be used with phones that do not have a car kit. As per the forum rules I am not advertising this product for sale just letting anyone that is interested know about its existence.

    Hey Dogboy,

I realize that your original post was over a year ago, but people seem to still reply to it. I have a 1990 LS400 with the factory phone. I am currently using a Verizon Razr V3 cell phone. What kits can you recommend? Thanks

  4. I want to replace my original 1990 LS 400 stereo (tape deck only) with another original, BUT with the CD player and control button, mint condition or brand new, if possible. My original stereo is still in perfect working condition, if anyone is interested in it. LCD display is still in perfect working condition. There's only 54,000 miles on my car (not a typo).

My last post on this subject was a long time ago (+ 6 months). Received a response from PIONEERSUBY. Are you still around?

Any suggestions on where I can get one would be much appreciated.

I plan to install it myself, so I'm hoping all necessary wiring and such will already be included. I want it to be an easy and problem-free operation as possible. Thanks.

  5. Thanks, 93LSOwner. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Now if you or someone can only determine whether the dimensions are compatiple, as well as all the attaching hardware. I guess the available color should also be important.......mine is the run-o-the-mill brown leather. Thanks again.

  6. I've also been asking around for interchangeable parts as well. I've been looking for a rear-seat armrest that has the built-in cupholders for my 1990 LS400. Lexus included this feature starting in 1994 or 1995? Anyway, am still pursuing this option if anyone can further help me along. Thanks.

  7. Can anyone recommend a good multi-CD player that is compatible and can be controlled through my original 1990 LS 400 radio?....that can also be mounted in the glove compartment? Thanks.

I like the look and feel of the original trim and don't really want to replace the trim with the aftermarket mount.

  8. Can someone please detail a procedure for me regarding a total coolant flush....where are all the nuts and things are? How much liquid am I dealing with here? I'm supposed to use Toyota's red-colored coolant? What's the name of that stuff? Thanks.

  9. yes, it's illegal to tint the front driver and passenger side windows because the CHP cops can't see into the cabin when they're approaching you. THAT's the real reason why, not because of any perceived "driver-reduced visibility" concerns.

  10. How do you clean all the applicator pads and microfiber towels used for detailing your car, so that they are reusable again?

I just waxed my car with a microfiber applicator pad using Collinite 845 Insulator wax. The pad is now caked with wax. How do I clean this stuff off?

Same question for the pads that I've used for applying Meguiar's Deep Polish Cleaner and Meguiar's No. 7 ShowCar Glaze.

Same questions with the microfiber towels. Once I've started wiping off the polish, the glaze, and the wax (different towels of course), it left behind stuff that I apparently can't wash off just by throwing them into the washing machine.

    Please advise. Thanks.

  11. I just did the same this past Sunday for my 1990 LS400. Took me 9 hours to do a complete exterior and interior detailing, 8 of those just for the exterior!!!! But what fantastic results.

    This is what I did:

    1) Dawn dishwashing liquid to wash car.

    2) Clay Magic clay bar

    3) Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

    4) Meguiar's No. 7 ShowCar Glaze

    5) Collinite No. 845 Liquid Insulator Wax

I have Meguiar's Quick Detailer to use as a followup for those days when I need that "just waxed" look.

May try out Klasse's All-In-One next time, as I don't know if I have it in me to do 8 hours again. Fortunately it's only perhaps twice a year that requires such involved detailing.

By the way, for those also using Collinite.....I only used about 1/3 of the bottle for a complete wax job. Am I using too little? Too much? Should I put on another application? Is another coat necessary? Please advise. Thanks.

  12. I have a fully functioning, in-car cellular phone (plus mount) from my 1990 LS400. It's barely been used, a testament from the fact that I only have 50,000 miles on my car. I finally removed it to make more space in that compartment. If no one wants it, I'm gonna just end up throwing it away. Do you think the Lexus Dealer will want the part back? It seems a waste to just throw it away. I guess I could put it up on ebay, but thought I'd give this forum first dibs.

  13. I have a 1990 LS 400....What's the dashboard made of anyway? I've always assumed it was leather? Is it actually vinyl or pleather? What do you use to clean it? i've always just used armor all, which may be a mistake now that i've read some of these other postings. Should i use lexol to maintain the dashboard? What about all that plastic trim? Can I use armor all on those, or should I use some other product? Thanks.

Also, I've got some sort of adhesive glue on the dash from what appears to be one of those stick-on air freshners. What can I use to get that stuff off without harming the dash material? Thanks.

  14. I don't understand SRK's animosity towards Amsoil? I first heard of the Amsoil name on this very forum, and decided to do more research and read up more on the product. The fact that there's so many links to Amsoil on this forum suggested to me that Amsoil was a great product. My research and further readings on Amsoil suggest that it IS a great product, to the point that I'm willing to try out the stuff. Now that I hear some dissention, I'm starting to second-guess myself on Amsoil.

What gives? Is the truth out there?

  15. I stopped by my local dealer re: general tuneup....

Anyway, he said the time involved with changing the spark plugs for my 1990 LS400 would be approx. 3 hours!!!! The manifold has to be taken off, etc., etc.

How complicated a procedure is this? I'm used to doing my own work, and can't foresee changing the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor to be THAT big a deal. Please advise. Thanks.
