  1. Yes, i searched, and I couldn't find it discussed. Anyways, i was wondering if anyone knew if there's a problem with putting 95+ brake lights on a 92. I even see those clear brake lights on ebay but they say 95-97. Just curious, about both, retrofitting 95+ brake lights on my 92 and the compatibility of those ebay lights. Thanks, Joe
  2. I bought my 200k lexus sc300 about a month ago and held off on changing the oil since the owner just replaced all the filters in the system herself and had jiffylube replace her oil a few hundred miles before i got on it. Now after 2k miles.. yeah i put it on quick! newly purchased cars are always fun to cruise around in.. for hours, i'm now changing my own oil/oil filter. I'm using 5W-30 Castro GTX High Mileage oil and a mobil1 filter, i jacked up the front about a foot, drained it, jacked up the back about a foot, drained it some more, let it drain flat on the ground till it was a drip every 10 seconds, put the plug back in and then proceeded to fill it up with 5 quarts. i stopped at exactly 5 quarts, my SC300 manual on page 170 it says: drain and refill, with filter, 5.1qt, without filter, 4.8qt. I replaced the filter, but at exactly 5.0qt my dip-stick says ive overfilled it, it's a pretty marginal amount, about 1/8" above the full mark, is this worth getting down there, opening it up and draining a bit and quickly plugging it back up (causing a mess) just to get it to the full mark or is a little overfill not worrysome? I'm sort of too afraid to drive it at the moment until i know more about slightly overfilling. Just curious, thanks. -Joe
  3. I'm running the stock motor and i just bought this SC300, the distributor is leaking oil and it's dripping on the alternator. Is it just replacing the O Ring gasket or is there something else I need to do with the 2JZGE. I already tried searching these forums but didn't find my answer. Thanks, Joe
  4. Yeah, i know you're joking, but the type of paste shouldn't matter. It's just a very mild abrasive, just grab a shimmy cloth and go at it. I'm happy with the results for it only taking about 30 mins to do all of the lights, probably twice to three times the light being thrown now for a quarter of a tube of paste. I did my headlamps, foglights, and cornering lights. Here's the foglights. I know it's not as good as it can be, but the improvement is a bit more than subtle. :) -Joe
  5. Used toothpaste to clean my SC300 headlights, they were seriously sucky at night and i got frustrated with them really so i used toothpaste, and rubbed it around for a few mins then wiped it off. Looks better eh? :) -Joe
  6. So i let my brother move my recently purchased 5speed SC300 as we were re-arranging the cars in our driveway, he backed out with the parking brake engaged and moved maybe 5-10 feet before he stopped cause i was yelling at him. I know it's an honest mistake, but the car was off all night so the brakes were cold, could any damage of been done? i swear when i dis-engage the parking brake now i get like an inch of play that i can wiggle the break up and down before it clicks. Is that normal? I just got the car yesterday so i'm not sure. Thanks, Joe
  7. well i talked her down for $4800, is that still way too hight? i already told her i'd take the car, i'd kinda feel bad for backing out at this point unless I had a good reason. A manual is a must for me, i just love the connection with the car/road i get with a 5speed. when you say pricey, how pricey compared to toyota parts? Obviously there will have to be some repairs done to the car to make it 100%. -Joe
  8. Hello. So i'm looking to purchase a 92 SC300 w/ 194k miles. Two owners, clear VIN#, all service records. and it's a 5 speed! here's the listed problems currently with the car: no ac passenger door opens only from inside (outside handle feels loose) passenger window only rolls down 3/4 of the way (about 3 inches of window doesn't go down) Trunk lid doesn't stay open quarter of the instrument cluster is dim antenna doesn't come up all the way right rear quarter panel damage behind the tire on the very bottom, not sure how that got there but it looks minor and just asthetic. she says it eats a bit more oil today than it did when she bought it in 01 The engine runs very smooth, the interior is perrrfect except for typical wear and tear on the tan leather drivers seat. shifts smooth-no grind. Given the problems, and the price: $5000, is that a good price for what the car is? I had her pull down the ads cause i told her i'm gonna pick it up this weekend, because right now i think it's a good deal, but if you guys see any red flags i should know about or discuss with her before then or somethign I should check for when I go back up there to pick it up, let me know. Thanks! -Joe
