  1. Sorry for beeing late to reply..just a few years..

I found 2 of the same, but with Toyota logo...in Germany for sale, bought them, found me a nice stainless Lexus logo and installed that over the Toyota and it does good fot the rear seat passengers on long roadtrips ...

... I have untill now still searched for the Lexus ones... but everywhere they tells me..not for sale anymore

  2. ...I opened the compartment and found there where room for a filter, bought one set on e-bay and installed it myself.

How can You program the system ??

Arvid, that sounds exactly like what I want to do. Where does the filter component go? Behind the glovebox? Was it difficult to install?

It sounds like you were able to install it, but can't get it working..? Is it possible that there is some requirement from the A/C system itselft to be able to support the automatic switching from filter to non-filter operation? In other words, even if we can install a filter it will never work due to dependencies elsewhere within the system?

I image this filter as just an inline carbon-type filter that is either used or bypassed. Is that correct? If the older A/C system simply won't support the automatic filter operation, is there a way to force it to always use the filter? Or is it a matter of just automatically switching from fresh to recirc air?

    Hi !

Sorry for the late feedback :-(

I found my place for the filter in the passenger side. When removing the cover above the foot well, I could see the filter compartment and unscrewed two wingnuts and installed it. Quite easy, but it's just a normal air filter and I do NOT have this newer inside /outside air shifting capabliity... sorry:-)

  3. snip

I remember that this system was a several thousand dollar option outside the U.S. in the early 90's and I was surprised when it was made standard on the LS in (I think) the 93 model year without the list price of the car rising all that much.

It is kind of entertaining to sit in a traffic jam and watch the system automatically switch between outside and inside air.  The system is even programable and one can choose how bad the outside air has to get before the system switches to inside air.

    Please tell more !!

I have a 1993 and tried for 3 years to get the local Toyota dealer (it's 300 miles to the only Lexus dealer in Norway :-)) and the dealer in Germany where I take the services on the car to check and possibly replace the filter. Both told me that this model did NOT have this filter.

I opened the compartment and found there where room for a filter, bought one set on e-bay and installed it myself.

How can You program the system ??

  4. Hi !

I have some bad odour sometime when starting after the car has been idling for a few days.

I found a page on the Soarer describing how to clean and re-use the filter.

I found the opening for the filter on the same place as the Soarer ... but there where NO filters to replace in there.

I called the local Toyota shop...

(never sold any Lexus( there have been sold on average one LS 400/430 a year totally here in Norway (price today £ 110.000 ))

.... and they told me that there should not be any re-changeable filter in the 93 model.

What the H... is then this opening for ?????

A couple of bad photos of the opening here:

  6. Hi again.

250 km/h is not fast by German standards.. but not for long distances (these days when the traffic has been so congested ) . I reccon a cruising speed of 100 mph are not unusual in Germany.

I rather cruise close to 150 mph with the LS 400 and remember that I lived through the years when I roamed the continent in my 1983 Renault R 5 Turbo from 83-91. (The only car that has raced several of the tracks with a towbar they told me one time in Hamburg :D )

    See enclosed picture:

Well. i'm sure that I will stir the cup now.. but here comes a quote from Jack London:

I would rather be ashes than dust!

I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dryrot.

I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.

The purpose of man is to live, not to exist.

I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them.

    I shall use my time.

  7. Had my 93 at 242 km/h (150 mph) (measured with my Garmin StreetPilot GPS) and it was still accelerating when i closed in on heavy traffic. This was in Germany... NOT here in Norway.

  8. Hi !

I was on a trip in the Norwegian Mountains last week-end to try me at downhill skiing again (15 years since last stunt :blushing: ) and had my 1993 LS 400 parked outside the cabin for 2 nights ( temperature down to 15 Celsius below freezing).

On Sunday I started the car and noticed that the tip of the tach needle was blinking on and off. This lasted for roughly 15-20 minutes before the outer half of the needle became black... and it has been that way since then.

I have read all the problems with flashing lights and so on and how Jim Walker and others have a cure for this.. but can this cure also fix my needle ??????

I have sent an e-mail to Jim, but have not received any responce yet so I want to know if any of You know of ... or have got a fix for it yourself ???

Picture of the needle is enclosed.

    Regards from Stavanger, Norway
