  1. I have an RX 350 with Navi and only 44,000 miles I am unable to effectively maintain heating temperature in this car. It reaches the set temp but then after a while, it starts blowing cooler air and never readjusts to the original temperature setting. I have to keep raising it to well in the upper 80's to get it warm. Also, when I turn it to the off setting, it still blows air through the center vents. Lexus says to put it on recirculating setting. For me, "off" should mean off as in no air coming out of the vents. Anyone else have this problem and if so, is there a solution? Regarding the transmission, the shift into third gear seems sloppy. It slides into gear with a hesitation. Again, Lexus says they can't find anything wrong.
  2. I agree with other posts. Lexus and Toyota now lead the pack in corporate arrogance. I wrote several letters to Lexus GM Mark Templin, with copies to my dealer. No one had the courtesy to respond. Wrote one to Mr. Toyoda in Japan. So I did what others did...bought a marvelous Garmin and I leave it stuck to my windshield on every service visit to Lexus. When they ask, it gives me a chance to rant. When I peer into a new RX in the showroom and the sales guy comes over, I tell him I won't buy another Lexus for the rest of my life. Won't do any good but it does dispel some of the frustration. Toyota/Lexus should make "how the might fail" required reading for every member of senior management. Don't know how a corporation can ignore 1500 frustrated owners on the Lexus override website.
  3. Does anyone know if the RX 350 has the software to shut off fuel if the accelerator is stuck or some other technology to prevent what appears to be happening in many toyota and some ES models? Thank you
  4. For me, the device that has absolutely no static, produces crystal clear sound and costs only $10.00 is the cassette "tape" that just slides in the cassette slot and the other end connects to the headphone port on iPod. Far better than the FM transmitter. I got mine from Coby.
  5. Yes, I too find this engine to be the most unrefined of any car that I owned in decades. I also get high wind noise at speeds above 50. Lexus, as typical, says that nothing can be done ("unable to diagnose wind noise problem"; engine has mechanical timing belt...it is noisy" In other words, live with it. The navi system does not allow the passenger to program new information while the car is moving; Lexus says that this is for safety reasons. Safety, in this regard, is not the responsibility of Lexus; it is the operator. The Lexus is my wife's car and she likes it. I have a 99 Acura TL with 100,000 miles that runs far more smoothly that does the Lexus. Lexus is just relying on their reputation but that will disappear if they fail to make changes. Look what happened to Mercedes when they had, and still have, huge quality and reliability problems.
  6. Is it possible to permanently override the navi system lock-out so that the passenger is able to enter new data while the car is moving? This is a real nuisance since now, the car must be stopped to make any changes. I know that it can be temporarily overridden but this override disengages every time the car is turned off. Does the latest generation give the passenger the ability to program while the car is moving? My Lexus dealer says that it cannot be done but it seems to me that this is illogical. It is not the responsibility of Lexus for operator safety; rather, it is the operator. Thanks
  7. My XM finally was successfully reprogrammed and I get good strong signals on all channels. However, there is no stereo separation. The sound on all channels sounds monaural. Is this another XM satellite programming issue or is it due to the Lexus equipment? The unit was installed by my Lexus dealer
  8. I just had the Lexus XM radio installed by my dealer. I figured out how to program the buttons on the radio to receive the XM stations but do not know how to program the Navi screen so that it matches the preset XM stations. For example, if button 1 on the radio is for "60's decade", how do I match that on the Navi screen. The Navi screen has spaces for 6 stations each on SAT 1, SAT2 and SAT3 but they all still show "preview" and it shows preview on the radio screen below the Navi. The dealer does not have programming instructions for the "factory" unit that they installed. Hope someone can help. Thank you
  9. We have an 2007 RX350 and would recommend avoiding this car (many owners may disagree with my comments). The engine is very unrefined, having a tapping noise due to the mechanical timing chain. The transmission has a lag when shifting. The audio and cruise controls are way behind the competition. Acura has much more sophisticated, intuitive steering wheel controls, ipod connection, XM radio as standard (vs a $500 dealer installed option). The heater is unable to maintain constant temperature. On the plus side, the design is very good as is the interior quality. My wife liked the Lexus design, we had an RX 300 and that is why we bought another one. Overall, for a luxury vehicle, I believe that Lexus has slipped. Buy the Acura (I have a 99 TL with 100,000 miles and the engine is still silky smooth)
  10. I too have experienced loud engine tapping noise in my RX 350. It is loud when the car is cold and somewhat better when warm. Still, for a luxury vehicle, this engine appears to be very unrefined. The dealer says it is due to Lexus move to a timing chain (vs belt). He said that by avoiding the belt, owners will save $900 in future service cost. I believe that if owners can afford to buy a Lexus, they would choose a smooth, quiet, sophisticated engine for 80,000 miles and then pay the $900 to change the belt. Is there any solution to quieting this engine? Thank you
