  1. Well I went back out today and tried to start it again. I held the pedal all the way down, turned the car over for about 7 seconds and it started. I drove it around for a while, 'gunning' it at times to try to clear out the fuel and went back home and parked it but left it running for about an hour. After the hour, I went back out, turned the car off and it restarted just fine. So, hopefully all is well but if not, I do have some more ideas I have yet to try. Thanks again,
  2. Update - I replaced the battery. I replaced the positive battery terminal (90982-05035 - updated model with a plastic piece to protect against corrosion). Now the car will turn over on its own. However, it will still not start. The fuses are all good. It's dark out here so I will check the plug wires tomorrow. The dealership told me to hold down the gas pedal and turn the car on and see what happens. I did that, held the gas pedal down, turned the car over and held it over. It started for a split second and then immediately died. I did the same process again and it sounds like it wants to start but will not again. So, it does sound gas related to me (a complete novice). I will check the wires tomorrow when I have more light. If not, it sounds like I'll have to have it towed unless there is something I missed. Thanks again for all your help.
  3. I have a 2000 Lexus LS 400 with about 125,000 miles on it. This past week, each morning when I go out to start the car, its dead - just clicks when I turn it over. Bring out the wifes car and jump it, and everything is back to normal until the next morning. Same thing for the next 4 days. And now, the battery is still dead but when I jump it, it just turns over but does not start. The battery is about 9 months old. Any ideas of what to check and the order to check them in? Thanks,
  4. I have a 2000 Lexus LS400 with the Navigation. Lately, it has been giving me problems and also, you cannot upgrade this beyond 2004. I have searched the forums and have not come across anyone else replacing the Navigation unit with a non-navigation unit. Is this possible? If this unit goes out, it appears that you will lose climate, radio, and all and I would rather get rid of the nav unit and replace with whatever would have come in a non-nav LS400. If I could find the parts, is this possible? If this has been posted elsewhere, I apologize but I could not find it. Please post the link. If not, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have seen the display unit listing for over $4,000 and the control unit for over $4,000 as well. I'm not looking forward to spending that if the nav unit finally quits. Lately, it has been flashing on and off, stays off for a little while, but it does however come back on after a couple of minutes. Just not looking forward to when it doesn't come back on. Also, don't know if this is related, but just the other day I went to turn on the car and nothing. It didn;t try to turn over or nothing. The battery is listing at 12.8 volts so the battery was fine. After a couple of minutes, it started right up. I know it is a coincidence, but I related that in my mind to the nav unit as well. Well, long story short, can you replace a nav unit with whatever came in a non-nav unit? Thanks, Todd
  5. Thanks for the replies. I will take my care back in now with info that my car does indeed idle higher than normal according to other Lexus owners. Thanks again, Todd
  6. Hello everyone, I just had a 60k service done a month ago. Before taking it in, the car was running well and was getting good gas mileage. Now after the service, I believe that my idle rpm's are quite high. Since I do not know what is was before, I was wondering what is the average or typical idle rpm's when started and when in drive at a stoplight or something. My current idle after warmup is around 1200 rpm's. When I am driving around and come to a stoplight, it idles around 700 to 800 rpm's. I know that is a lot higher than it was before but I do not know what the normal range is. When I called the place where I got the 60k service done, the first response was that I was using bad gas. I said that everything was great before bringing it to you and only after you serviced my vehicle does my car idle a lot higher and my gas mileage had decreased quite a bit as well. So, now I ask what is the typical so I can go back to him and see what can be done. And, what can I tell him to check and fix or if he won't do anything, what can I do? Thank you, Todd
  7. Thanks for the info. I will check a local mechanic around here that used to work at the Lexus dealership. I will see what he charges and if it is high, then I will probably take care of things myself. And yes, I will start stashing away some money for the 90K service. Todd
  8. I have a 2000 LS400 that is coming up on 60,000 miles. I called the Lexus dealership and they said it would be $540 for the 60k checkup. This entails an oil change and replacing the air filter. They also check all fluids. I ask you, is this worth the $540 for what seems to be an oil change? I called a Toyota dealership and they said it would cost $325 for the same thing. Lastly, is there anything else I should be aware of at 60,000 miles? Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks, Todd
  9. I do not know about knocking or anything like that, but someone told me that my 2000 LS400 requires 91 octane so I alternate between the 89 and 93 every time I fill up. I have not noticed any problems thus far. Am curious though... Todd
  10. From Houston to San Antonio on I-10, average 26 miles per gallon. Driving around Houston, average 17 miles per gallon. This is for my 2000 Lexus LS400 with 58,000 miles on it. Todd
  11. Hank, I bought a 2000 Lexus LS400 from a dealership last March. It didn't take long before I had the same problems. I'll be driving along listening to a CD and then the AC stops and the CD stops playing and then the radio starts to play. There are times when I would start the car and nothing would load. I would just turn the car off and on and that would work most of the time. Needless to say, the past several months I have not had many problems but am worried about spending the $1,850 to replace the unit when it eventually does go out. Where did you get your rebuild? Lastly, you had mentioned about pulling up fault codes. What did you mean by that and would it work on my 2000 model? Take care, Todd
