  1. Are there any members in the Orlando area that could help me locate a detailer or mechanic that can fix the ugly headlight problem i have? Its to the point where they are "NASTY TO LOOK AT", Moisture, brown on the inside it look's like and oxidation. on outside, Please help ! Lynn SC 400 1992

Lynn, just been through the same thing recently, the moisture on the inside means that the seal has been compromised. I have had my original lights resealed and for all the money and effort it only worked for short time. IMHO it is easier and cheaper in the long run to just save up the $700 and buy brand new headlights. I have a toyota/lexus certified mechanic that has his own business in Delray Beach, but that is too far from Orlando and not necesary, just look in the phone book for auto repair and toyota or lexus certified mechanic in your area, you should find easily find one. Good luck.

or buy a set ready to drop in from me for say $100 shipped to your door for the set, they have been painted on the inside w/ gunmetal metallic and mount just fine..........click on picture for larger image

need plastic polish on outside only

  2. Welcome to the Club. So you want the Hazard lights to be converted to Day-time running Lights? Don't you want Turn signals anymore?

yea sorry i kinda worded that in a confusing way so heres a picture.

    10g9uaa.jpg

I want these lights to be on and off whenever my actual headlights are on and off. right now they only come on when i have my blinker on.. so say I am turning left with the L blinker on, the lower L light is also on but only when either of the blinkers are on, and same for the right side.

Why don't you splice the lower cornering lights to your left and right parking light wires so that they come on whenever your parking light/headlight switch is on?

i did this^^ and an very happy with it...took about an 1hr to do

  3. My father is an ASE certified mechanic and I help him a lot in his shop and we have been studying how to convert my SC300 to run on hydrogen and gas. I was wondering if anyone has done this to their SC and if they have any tips that will apply to this particular car. Right now, we are planning on doing a HHO generator, bubbler, EFIE, fuel heater, water vaporizer, PCV enbhancer and a MAF MAP sensor. We are hoping to get at least a 50% increase in mileage off of all these gas saving parts. If you have any questions on what we are trying, don't be afraid to ask, Isaac

can i get some of what you guys smoke in montanna

  4. Hey everyone I am new to this whole forum thing but I have a white 1998 lexus sc400 with 75xxx miles on it. I have 18inch staggered rims on it with lowering spring. I am selling the car right now and want to return it to the stock look because there is crazy rubbing on my front tires. I think I messed up my wheel well because of all the rubbling. I wanted to know if anyone has the oem rims that would fit this car and if anyone had the oem springs more importantly. Please contact me at jshmelnik@yahoo.com or just reply here. thanks

post em here and concider it a done deal

  5. Hello out there! I am a newbie! Here is my situation...

I have a 1995 SC400 with about 140K miles. My instrument panel is completely out on the left side. My tachometer pin is completely out as will another pin soon as it is flickering. I take my car to the dealership for any and all types of services. I am not mechanically inclined! Is there some other alternative than the dealership to have this cluster replaced. The dealership is quoting me at 1220.00 :cries: .

    Thanks

  9. SC400, 95, 125K--Driving home and at a stop light I noticed a change in engine dynamics. Engine developed a muffeled sound and as best I could describe it –almost like it was the potato in the tail pipe. Now, when I took off from the light, I had little power. Also as I increased the power while in 1st the tach “bounced around” and dropped to zero but the car keep plodding along (thus it didn’t reflect the decrease in RPMs), shifted into second tach came back to est RPM, then dropped again to zero as I asked for more power (very slowly at that) and shifted again but remained at the designed RPMs. Funny smell from exhaust, no check engine light, Xmission fluid is normal flavor. Sometimes I have been concerned about the Xmission as it makes a “whinning” noise when it first starts out but then clears up and no slippage. No real visible signs under car or engine comparment.

Now before I throw up my hands and take it to the shop—what are some quick checks???

Thanks to the forum and the tech info on timing belts, window regulators, and front end bushings as I am getting ready to do the timing belt/pump (maybe).

and will start well but while in park, you increase RPMs the tach drops to zero but again, the engine increases --as the engine decrease back to around 750 rpms, tach comes back.

actually sounds like a bad catilatic converter, sometimes the catalist breaks up and pluggs the exhaust system up...hence the smell

quick check is to unbolt (or loosen) the exhaust at the manifolds....fire it up if it revs fine (but loud) and seems to run good ...then your exhaust is plugged. great time to add a set of high flow converters.

hope this helps....if ya find the cause..post it up.

  11. Hi everybody,

I am the proud owner of an SC300 year 94 with 43K miles and I am arranging various aspects of the car, just bought shock absorbers K&B GR-2 and I want to buy springs for lower the car a little, no more than 1 inch, I read in the post that most of you are using Tanabe or Eibach springs but I want to know which is better, Eibach is a bit more expensive and I do not know if there is a justification to pay this differential, my question is what do you recommend, Eibach or Tanabe?.

i recommend eibach, but thats just me

always used them on most of my cars, never tried tanabe

  12. authentek. Just trust me. 20's are way too big. his picture angles dont reveal how ridiculous it actually looks. Lets put it this way, if you put 20's on ur sc, you wont be able to lower it. not even an inch. secondly, they are going to rub. i have eighteens on my sc, its lowered only 1 inch and the tires rub. just imagine 20's. Third, rubber for 20's is alot more expensive than rubber for 19's becuase you have to purchase a extremely low profile tire to make it fit in your wheel well. not to mention the lower the profile of the tire, the worse the ride quality. im serious, it will feel like you're in a tractor. Lol. I dont know how they do it in florida or texas, and this isnt a dis on where ur from, but, out here, especially in places like oakland, 20's = baller status and 19's = Lexus motorsport. Go with the 19's dude =)

    - Kevin

are you talking about the pics i posted? i have 19" not 20"

agreed 20" look ridicolous on an sc....

read all my post in this thread, i agree 20" are ugly, 19" are the way to go and i posted pics of my sc w/ 19" on them .....then i see a post thats says "his picture angles dont show how ridiclous it actually looks"

    19"=lexus motorsport

  13. please dont do 20's it looks fricken stupid

Thanks my first choice was to go with 19's but then heard 20's will look better however never really felt comfortable with that so i think i'm going to end up putting 19's on it asap.

pm me your email and ill send ya pics of how mine look w/ suspension

Show me a side view. do they rub at all or do you have it lifted?

these are 19"........ i would never run 20" on a car

it is not lifted its actually lowerd 1" w/ eibach springs all around and yes the rear rubs in hard cornering and bumps.

  15. Gentlemen and ladies,

I just bought my first Lexus. The a/c compressor clutch froze up on caused the drive belt pulley to come off the crankshaft damper. Have a look here:

    http://www.glocktech.net/C

Has anyone ever seen this happed before? I have never encountered this happening to any other car. A new pully costs a lot (over $400 at the local dealer). And I really don't want to put on one of the "under" pulleys.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated.

PS: I really like this car and I can't wait to get it on the road.

    Bill

yes....i have seen this before and it is shot, do not attemp to reassemble

2 options salvage yard used (dont recommend) or buy an aftermarket cheaper than stealership
