  1. We have an '09 IS250 AWD with 17" wheels and the original Bridgestone Potenza tires. The road noise is pretty bad. I know that going to different tires may help, but does anyone have any advice about whether going to a 16" wheel would also help? I know this will affect handling a bit, and that I will have to get a higher profile tire to match the existing diameter to keep the speedometer more or less accurate. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    Hi!

I had the same issue with my 07 IS250 and its Dunlop-17"-Tires. I switched to Michelin-16"-tires. It's not much - but noticeable - more quiet in die cabin now. It's also a little bit more comfortable on uneven roads now.

  2. Did you "play" with the radio, nav etc.? It happens to me quite often wenn I use to play around and press the Start-Button a couple of times without starting the engine!

Nope, foot on the brake, pressed the button, engine tried to start, and then died.

Even not after you stopped the engine the last time before??

  3. To know the wattage is not enough, you have to know the sensitivity! (this gives the information, how loud a speaker plays - you can't say how fast a car goes if you know it has 200hp; if you don't know the sensitivity of each of the speakers, the result could be that e.g. the midrange plays much louder than before, but the bassrange much less - this will sound horrible, even if you installed the best speakers!)

The cheapest and easiest way to improve the sound would be to "hack" the DSP of the ML-System. The factory-setup is bad and the sound-options-menu influences the wrong frequencies

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A KIND OF "HIDDEN MENU" WHERE YOU CAN CHANGE MORE THAN THE STANDARD-SETTINGS?

  4. I've had my '07 IS 250 in on at least 8 occasions for the numerous noises. I've had the TSIB's done on the center speaker, new dash clips as well as insulating the center stack. The noises are better but far from what I expect from a Lexus.

I just received a shipment from Sutherland Felt in MI who produces and supplies felt to the manufacturers with automotive grade pressure sensative adhesive. I got .35mm, .5mm, 1mm and 2mm thicknesses. They sell it by the yard at a reasonable price, between $10 - $20 per yard by 60".

My plan of attack is to put felt between the plastic pieces that make up the center stack. I've had to do this before in a 2002 Acura TL and when I was done you could head a fly breathe.

Fo owners of a non-nav IS, the loud "POP" from the center seems to be coming from the actual center vents and the visible trim piece.

Lexus should change their tag-line to be: "Lexus, the Pursuit of Mediocrity"

Oh - I feel with you :D Beside these noises, I've got the original 17"-Dunlop Tires on my IS250. They are really horrible loud on some surfaces. (especially rumple noise etc.)

  5. Hello and welcome to the club.

There is of course the standard menu for adjusting the High, Medium and Bass levels.

Do you have the Auto Sound Leveling (ASL) feature on? This feature will increase the volume AND adjust the levels to compensate for noise when the vehicle is moving. You could try to turn this feature off and see if they helps.

    Regards,

Of course I know the standard menu ^^

The ASL-Feature is ON. But it should make no difference as the problem is also when the vehicle is not moving.
