  1. Hello all, I recently had my water pump, belts and pulleys replaced in my car to remove a squealing sound in my engine. well the squealing sound is gone after multiple trips to the delearship, but now when I turn my AC on, I hear a loud humming noise. It even over powers my radio. I went to the dalership but they said it sounded normal. Now, I may not know anything about cars, but I know it is not normal. So I have come to the experts. any ideas of what the humming sound is when the AC is cut on? thanks 1995ls400
  2. Well guys, I think it is both fact and fiction, however a clean fuel/exhaust system is better than a dirty one. I had the error code (P042) come up on my car last month, and the diagnosis was to replace the 02 sensors. I tried to convince the lexus dealer to reset the code, but they said you couldn't reset that code. So, I spent the money and had all four of them replaced and, just this weekend my check engine light came back on and I got the same error code, so apparently is was not my 02 sensors. The dealership also said that my cat converter was going bad. Like you said, I have never had one of those go out on any car I have owned. So I figured it has to be something else. and a dirty fuel system which leads to a dirty exhuast system sounded good to me. So I decided to try the motorvac system. I called all around town for hours trying to find a repair place that uses the motorvac system. Most of the dealerships, national known shops didn't use it. but And I finally found one. Other places wanted to charge me the same price for dumping a few bottles in my gas tank and oil. But to me, it just sounds better to have a machine do it for me. anyway, after I had my car cleaned, I noticed an instant improvement. My car is really driving better. the gas pedal and take off feels fluid again. also the error code went off. I will see if my gas mileage changes on my next big trip. I would say that for $100 it is defintely worth it. I might even say me $2000 for a new cat converter. only time will tell. I will keep you all posted. 1995ls400
  3. where can you get on of those motor vacs done at... Jiffy Lube, Lexus Dealer. I think my catalytic converter is going bad also, and I ain't gonna pay $2400. thanks 1995ls400
  4. Hello all, thanks for all the hlep with trying to solve this problem. I took my car to the Lexus delearship to see if they could figure out why my car was dying after long trips and all they did was clean out the throttle body. I wonder was that a real fix for the problems or just quick fix that will last for a few weeks? BUt I guess I can't complain too much since it was free. <_< I took it for a short 30 minute drive yesterday and it didn't die on me. I tried to push it as most I could, hit 90 a few times. It seemed to have work, the rpms stayed above 600 when I stopped at a light. I am going to take a longer the this weekend and I will keep you posted as to how it performs. If it still acts up again, I will be back at the delearship armed with the bulletin. thanks again. 1995ls400 129,000 miles and 200,000 to go!!!
  5. Hello, I am having problems with my 1995 LS 400 (129,000) miles. It runs great expect for the small problem that after traveling on the highway at speeds greater than 80 mph. Yeh I know that is speeding, but I have to see what she can do on the open road ... Anyway, when I slow my car down, getting off the ramp, or at a light, my car cuts off. THE RPM's go below 200 and it just dies. It starts right back but having my car shutoff is a safety hazard and quite annoying and embarassing. :( … Anyway, looking at past entries it looks as if my ECU is the problem. Will I need to replace my ECU or can I just have my current one reprogrammed? If I have to replace it can I buy a used 95 one or will it have the same problem? Is 96/97 ls400 engine ECU compatible with a 95? I believe after 1996, the engine ECU was reprogrammed to solve the problem. As you can tell, I really don't want to spend buy a new ECU, they are $1800. Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks :) 1995ls400

  7. what do you use to lubricate the belt? My transmission problems... When driving at slow speeds below 40 I can feel the transmission shift into and out of gear. Even above 40 I can still feel, however less at higher speeds, shift into and out of gear. It feels kind of like running over a small rock. There is a slight bump/buck when it shifts. Is this normal? I have always heard these cars have seamless transmissions... I don't drive hard, but when I do occasionally see what the car can do and give it a little gas, the shifts don't seem as noticable. Is this common? actually my problem was worse. It used to have two slight knocks/bumps when it down shifted from 4th to 3rd (about 60 mph). I had a guy at the lexus dealership test drive the car with me yesterday. He said it felt like it was a loose transmission support, so he put it on the rack to see. the supports seemed fine so he adjusted the shifter cable. It seems to have helped out a little. I think I will indeed change my fluids and see if it gets better. It will be at the dealership though, I am not automotive inclined. :) The place where I bought my car gave me a 30 day warranty on the AC/trans/engine, so I am trying to make sure things are okay before it runs out. :)
  8. thanks for all the comments. I guess I should have gotten one before I bought the car. anyway the car is in great shape. I bought the car from a local used car lot, actually right beside the lexus delaer. The car had 127K miles and one local owner, so I felt pretty confident before I bought the car. the used car place performed the 120K mile service (belts, fluids etc) I went to Lexus yesterday and had them pull all the records on the car. Luckily, the previous owners took great care of the car, they even went in for routine car washes. I guess te real problem I am having is getting used to the car. I used to drive a 95 lincoln town car (it was totaled) and it is taking me a little while to get used to driving the LS400. the LS shifts, starts, accelerates and even feels differently than my lincoln and that is the real issue I facing. Trying to adjust my driving from a town car to the LS. I am just not really sure what is common for a Lexus and what isn't? It just appears the LS rides rough in the city. going slow it kind of vibrates, and it has hard down shifts. On the highway it purrs like a kitten These are things that I think I need though, 1) tire balance ~$54 at dealership. are they that good? 2) flush transmission fluid $69 (I don't think the car dealer put right fluid in transmission at 120K service) It seems kind of rough down shifting in the city) 3) replace pulley on belt train $120 (having squeaking sound in front of car) The Lexus place said my car is driving normal so I just need to get used to "perfection". thanks again.
  9. I am new to the Lexus family. I recently bought a 1995 ls400. Runs great. But there are a few problems I suspect. Is it worth getting the 125 or 150 point inspection by Lexus to uncover all the problems with the car?
  10. Hello, I recently purchased a 95 ls400. I must say it was well worth the money hoewever after having it for a few weeks, I am noticing a few problems. 1) After the car gets warmed up, there is a creaking/sqeaking sound coming from the front end of the car. I have opened the hood but am having no luck in locating the sound. When I first start it up in the morning I can barely hear it, but after it warms up the sound is more noticeable. I can't hear it from inside the car only from standing outside near the hood. Could this be my belts, loose motor or is it a more serious problem? 2) At 60 mph the car changes gears, I guess into fourth gear. If i have to slow down at the same time the car is changing to a higher gear, the car bucks while down shifting. The car does fine when I am driving in normal conditions (no traffic or immediate downshifting). Is this normal or is my transmission getting ready to fail? I try to avoid having to decelerate quickly after changing gears to avoid the problem. 3) my radio backlights are out. It is worth trying to fix the problem or just buy a new/another radio? thanks 1995ls400 owner
