  1. Sorry if this post is redundant.

My next service will be my 30k – as you all know the dealers charge about $500 for this service. I replaced both my cabin and engine air filters at 20k miles. The other 30k mile items in the owner’s manual are “change engine oil/filter – rotate tires” and “brake fluid replacement” and then about 75 inspections.

I think they inspect the car on the normal service intervals so I am not concerned about this. My questions are, should I just tell them to replace the brake fluid and perform a normal service (?) and does the brake fluid even need replaced at 30k?

Any thoughts or options would be appreciated.

It funny.People never change brake fluid or maybe do it when they need brakes and I never hear of any brake problems.

Yet,I'm a maintenance junkie and do a brake fluid change every two years.

The trans fluid is said to be lifetime in many vehicles.I still do a fluid change at 30K too. Then another at 50K if I keep the vehicle that long.

  2. I also believe the Nav system is upgraded - new look, new maps, etc. Do any of you know if that is true? Also, do you know if you can get this upgrade for a 07-09 ES? Thanks in advance for your response!

The '10 has a new hard disc drive navigation system with improved Voice Command and graphics and XM traffic and weather.

  3. Like others have posted,it's probably the switch for the power mirrors is not in the middle position.

I have read on other Lexus forums that after time some mirrors had a tilt down problem in older models.

It was said a plastic gear in the mirror wears causing the problem on some vehicles.I was hoping Lexus changed to a metal gear in newer models because of the problem.

On my ES,I don't keep the switch in the middle position.I use the feature unless the need arises. One less thing to go wrong.

The wife likes the feature on the RX and I keep the mirrors tilting.

  4. When you pay $40 grand or more for a car, you should complain to your dealer about anything that interupts your enjoyment of that car. Your trouble could be something as simple as weather stripping or a little more complicated.

Regardless, it doesn't cost a dime to drive it in and ask the question.

    PJ

    True.

    Lexus service is usually great!

I'm on my fourth one and never had any problems with very customer friendly Lexus service.

  5. For the difference of $825... I would carry the two remotes!

Another plus with an aftermarket make is if the Lexus dealer does the install, they don't follow the ridiculous Lexus/Toyota part install safety policy of using the remote to start the car and then when you unlock the door to enter, the engine doesn't shut down only to have to be restarted.

I wouldn't have an outside shop do an install while the car is in warranty but that's me.

Especially with the push button start.:)

  6. I wouldn't take the chance on the noise personally. Tires are very important to how a Lexus rides...

    So true.

Noise and comfortable ride over bumps which tires like Bridgestone Serenity(factory spec V rated) or Michelin Primacy (H rated)are the best according to Tire Rack testing and the comsumer survey.

From what I've read, both are average tries in snow, though.

BTW Steve, bodyside moldings are off and the paint stain issue on the one door is gone. :)

My bodyshop guy said let the sun hit it for awhile and see what happens. He was right.

I just love the look so much better without them.

  7. I didn’t get the remote start because I really don’t want two remotes and the climate in central Indiana isn’t really bad enough to need remote start if you have a heated garage and a nice place to park at work.

The Lexus part remote start eliminates the two remote fob need but it's expensive.

  8. Do you know if Lexus can install remote start on ES 350? If they do ,how much it's going to cost B) .

Is there any way to lock the car while it's getting warm in the morning. I just got the car and hate to go and see every 30 sec if it's still there. I saw post about saying that I can't lock the car when it's on, but may be someone found the way.

    Yes.

Dealer had a Lexus part remote start for the my '10 ES 350 but wanted a ridiculous $1150.

  9. I am pretty sure there is nothing else I have done. Are you sure that the car recognized it being depressed? I can even play dvds. I cant try it in the LS, no ebrake pedal, but I will try sometime in the RX.

Does your e-brake dash light glow?

I would think the dash light would have to be on.

  10. Hi all,

I have 07 ES350 purchased lasy July in 2007 and have this issue 4 times so far. Usually it happened when I started the engine and put into the reverse gear, then the backup camera showed a black screen with distored image on screen. I tried to restart the engine several times and the problem was still there. After driving the car for a while, then the problem was gone. Have anyone had the same problem before?

I am going to bring my car for 15K service this Friday and will ask dealer to see if they know any of this problem.

    Thanks.

    Allen

Some updates on my backup camera problem. I brought my car to dealer to fix this issue last month because I recorded it on my digital camera as the proof. They pulled out the log data from my car and sent them to Lexus. The dealer ordered a new navigation display screen and installed on my car later. I thought that was not the root cause by the screen. 3 weeks later, it happened again and I recorded it and post it to youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StnToT4oqI8) . I brought my car to dealer again and this time they replaced the backup camera. It was covered by warranty.

I have this ES350 since July 2007 and I have already dealer fixed the following things (all covered by Lexus warranty):

    1. Driver side window noise caused by excessive clearance between left door and striker. $99

    2. Adjust front wheel alignment. $327

3.Check Engine Light and VSC light were on and car was shaking on idle. Replaced oil control valve. $264

    4. First try to fix backup camera. Replaced navigation display. Labor only $85

    5. Backup break made noise. Replaced rear break pads. $145

    6. Replaced backup camera. $928

I am very disappointed to my ES and I am planning to get rid of it before the warranty expires.

Your problems are exactly why I usually never buy a first year of a new design model.

I bought a '07 Camry XLE and it had issues.I was actually happy when a deer hit caused me to get rid of it.

Toyota's have first year problems too.

  11. Every time I see a 2010 I like them more and more. If they made a Starfire Pearl w/black interior I would buy it. :)

That's the color combo I wanted too. :(

I will only buy a vehicle with black or a dark color leather interior.

Starfire Pearl/Black is available in the Ultra Luxury ES model, though.

    LesPaul,thanks.

  12. Yep, paintless dent repair. Starting to see some 2010s around now...sharp!

    -Steve

Steve,it rained Saturday so I couldn't take the moulding off. This saturday.

The wife and I visited friends of ours and my buddy looked at the car.I didn't say a word about taking the side mouldings off.He looked at the car and liked it but said "take off the side mouldings, they make the car look like a Pontiac or Chevy, not a Lexus".

  13. Part of the reason for buying a beautiful car is for it to be...beautiful. I agree about function over form, but only to a certain extent. You're always going to have to defensively park if you want to keep your car looking nice, thats just the long and the short of it.

I like the way the mouldings look on the car, at least the 07-09, but if you don't like them don't suffer through having them on just to protect against the possibility that one day you might have a door ding.

    True.

Mine are coming off Saturday. My neighbor has an '07 with the mouldings on a smoky granite and they look much better than on my '10 with the added chrome rocker trim.Yes the chrome rocker trim and the mouldings make the side look too busy.

The ES looks so much better without mouldings.Sleak and modern. :)

  14. Here's my opinion on things like that, its kinda like the black plastic bumper protectors you see. The car can maybe look like crap if someone bumps into it until you get it fixed...or it can always look like crap with ugly moldings.

I don't think it looks like crap with the moldings, I like the moldings, I just dont see why you should live with something you kinda don't like to avoid the possibility of damage down the line. The moldings won't 100% protect you anyways, and most door dings involve little or no paint damage.

    Great points.

Maybe I'll take them off next weekend.

Funny thing is my wife said "you never park next to anyone, anyway". :D

  15. That is such a sharp car! That color might be the choice for my next car; looks great.

The door molding looked dreadful on the 07-09, just as they do on the 10. Sorry… ruins the whole deal for me – so unnatural looking (it screams "a geriatric drives this car" to me).

The 2010 as a whole is really growing on me. Congrats again!

(Now pull those damn moldings off!) ;)

    LOL!

    Thanks!

    I'm 57 going on 27! :)

Many believe and the average age of a ES buyer is about geriatric age.

Believe me,they do look better in person but obviously not as good as not having them.

I'll think it over.I'll probably take them off after the winter.

  16. The moldings look great on the 07-09, but not quite right on the '10. I think its the chrome strip...

Door dings are VERY easily and cheaply removed with PDR...if you don't like them they're really not necessary.

I think they look nicer in person but the chrome strip does hurt them a bit..

The dings can be taken out but it's the ding paint chips that are the problem.

I'll see how I feel in the future. They do come off pretty easily.

I had a set on a white '07 Camry XLE that I took off about 8 months later without a problem.

I hope the OP will post a pic of the ES with the sport wheels. Those wheels are tough to clean but if they look nice,I may bite at $245 ea from Sewell Lexus.Maybe less with another forum's club discount.

I was told the because of previous complaints about brake noise the '10s have a different brake pads compound which produces more dust.Probably a high friction pad. After about 100 miles I could write my name in the brake dust,so I went to Akebono ProAct ceramic pads.So maybe I'll get those wheels if they look good.

  17. .

However, we have delayed making a decision after reading some negative press about the electronic fuel control on the Toyota

vehicles. The Corvette has the 5 second push to OFF button. While I believe I could remember to hold the Ignition button on

the Lexus, this would be the wife's car and I am more than a bit concerned.

All car manufacturers have "unintended acceleration" issues, not just Toyota.

I believe Toyota has a 3 second time.

If you're so worried, buy a car with a key ignition but it probably will still have a drive by wire setup.

  18. I would find the all weather mats somewhere and install them myself. They are a lifesaver; you need the 'real' Lexus all weather mats for such a nice car.

I've looked all over the net,Ebay and called dealers.

    None to be had.

I bought a set of all weathers from Weathertech and I'm very surprised the mats fit like crap in back and the fronts do fit much better but no retention holes for stay put hooks.

They said the floorliners would fit perfectly and I said those mats look cheesy for a luxury car. They're more for a SUV or pickup.

  19. Nice price.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago and paid about $1700 over invoice.

The dealer didn't have one in stock with colors and options I wanted. In fact there was only a couple in stock.

I went with the side mouldings too.I was on the fence about them but the car doesn't look anywhere as as bad with them as I thought it would.

I miss the all weather mats!

Those sport wheels will be a !Removed! to clean!!! :)
