  1. I just finished replacing the timing belt, waterpump camshaft seals and front crankshaft seal on my 1996 LS400. All due to the front seal failing and leaving a big puddle of oil in my driveway. Since everything was apart I decided it was a good time to replace the distributor cap's, rotor button's and plug wires. Now when I start the car I get trouble codes P0300 multi cylinder misfire, P0301 number 1 cylinder misfire, P0302 number 2 cylinder misfire and P0307 number 7 cylinder misfire. It ran fine before replacing everything. The distributor parts were aftermarket Standard Ignition. The rotor button's wern't a snug fit and would fall off until I put the two screws in. The one I took off even when the screws were removed would stay in place on the cam sprocket. I'm thinking there was enough slopiness to cause the misfire problem. If I get some "I told you so's" for not using OEM part it wont't bother me. Anyone else seen this with aftermarket ignition system parts?
  2. Thanks to everyone for the replies. I did (on the front so far) take the pads off, clean up all contacts points and brushed a little anti-sieze on them. I haven't driven it yet to see if it helped. If I do have air in the lines, is there a certain procedure for bleeding the anti-lock manifold? Thanks
  3. I will most certainly check it out! Thank you for the speedy reply!
  4. My 96 LS400 I recently purchased seems to me to have a lot of brake pedal travel before the brake start working. It travels a lot farther than the pedal on my 94 LS400. Is it me? Another wiered thing is a noise is coming from under the hood that sounds like a cooling system with an air pocket in the system. I removed the plug on the thermostat houseing and the coolant level was fine. The noise seems to be coming fom the anti-lock brake manifold, where all the barke lines come together. <_< One thing I do know is the previous owner had the front rotors turned, not replaced. Could this be the problem?
  5. I checked my little Ig-Lo dial thermometer against my Raytec infrared and they're within +-2 degrees. You're right on the dial gauge. The blue area has a 10 degree temp spread. 38 degrees to 48 degrees.
  6. While adding refrigiant to my 96 LS400 I discovered the electric cooling fan in front of the radiator wasn't working. I tried moving the blade with a screwdriver and it didn't move. It was frozen. I knew a dealer replacement would cost hundreds and I realy didn't want to trust one from a salvage yard so here's what I did. Removing the fan assembly presented a chalange. I had to remove the horn, right headlight, right corner lamp, three bolts that hold the fan in place. I then cut the fan "cage" away from the shroud using a pair of lineman pliers. After that I ground smooth the rim of the shroud. I found a 12" electric fan at Advance Auto Parts that worked perfect. The part number is 226112 and made by Hayden Automotive and cost $65.36 including tax. I drilled holes in the shroud and using small nylon tie straps, I secured the fan to the shroud. I then used black ATV silicon to seal the mating surfaces of the fan and shroud. The original wires are black and blue. The wires on the fan are also black and blue. In order for the fan to "push" air through the radiator I secured the black wire to blue wire and vise versa. It worked great! Today where I live it was in the high 80's. I used a AC thermometer in the center AC vent and even when sitting in traffic, the needle on the thermometer stayed in the blue zone. I have more photos of what I did and will be happy to email them to anyone interested.
  7. Not a problem. Thank you for your help.

  9. Trust me, I searched here before purchasing. The 95 doesn't use a motor for retraction, it uses a tension spring. I saw THIS thread giving instructions on how to retension the spring but I opted to buy a new one regardless. Here are some pics I took during the process: How do I add pics? Thanks

  13. Well is finally happened. The drivers seat belt won't retract. I've searched the local salvage yards but everone I found that wasn't broke didn't retract very well so I broke down and purchased a new one. They're only available in gray and blue. The tan has been discontinued. I thought I would have to accept the gray one for my tan interior Until I removed the broken unit. If anyone would like a picture of how to put your seat belt in the new retracter just send me your e-mail address.
