I have a 2007 GS350 and I have experienced the same issue.  I went ahead and replaced the HID module and the problem seemed to have gone away, but then the same happened again.  My solution to this problem was installing aftermarket HIDs in the low beams.  Unfortunately you have to remove the front bumper to get the headlights out and do the install properly.  About a 4 hour job.

For sale is a 2002 Lexus GS300 black with tan leather interior. It has 130,000 miles on it. In-line 6-cyliner, with 5-speed automatic transmission. Runs like brand new. If you know these cars you know they are capable of doing over 300k miles easily.

I had a similar problem and found out the hard way. It was the ball joints. Unfortunately I didnt replace them early enough and one of them popped out bending my fender slightly and dropping my front end onto the right rotor when the wheel fell over with the ball joint hanging out. I am thankful that it happened in a gas station and not on the highway. The 2nd generation GS series are known for the ball joints to pop out.

I suggest replace them as soon as possible before you kill yourself on the highway. They run $100 each from dealer and maybe $70-$80 each to put in at a local car shop.

I just replaced my O2 sensor on my 98 GS300 and I purchased a DENSO sensor from the internet. Make sure you find out the original part number and cross reference it with the DENSO part number. The DENSO sensor is about half the price of what the dealer charges and works exactly the same.

I suggest the same with the spark plugs - get either DENSO or NGK

I got a complete set of tailights for a 98GS300. I replaced mine with the 01 set and now they are just sitting on my shelf. The come with the harnesses.

It all depends on where you drive and what kind of roads you drive on.

I am from Jersey and the roads are horrible: pot holes, bumps, anything possible. Thats why I got rid off my 20's. Not enough rubber to absorb the pot holes and etc.

I would recommend 19's with at least 40 profile tires. I know it doesnt look as nice as 35 or 30, but if you want to keep the wheels for a couple years 40 profile is the way to go.

If you go with 30 or 35 profile tires, the wheels will only last you a year or two., because you will bend the crap out of them.

I got a 98GS300 as well.

I had my tranny oil changed at about 90,000 miles. Not a complete flush, just what came out from taking the plug out. I got about 105,000 miles now and everything has been good as new.

Use only toyota oil.

As fas as engine oil goes. Stick to whatever you used before. There is no point of switching to synthetic at this point.

I would recommend changing the oil every 3,000 miles. I drive my car pretty hard and when I drain the oil at 3,000 it is pretty dark. So I never go over the mark.

Unless you drive like a grandma try not to go over 3,500 miles between oil changes.

I had the same problem when I had my wheels on. The ball-joint was squeeking and making this noise that sounded like metal rubbing against metal. It sqeeked at lower speeds and especially in the parking lot, it was so embarassing. I got both ball-joints replaced and everything is fine. The ball-joints cost about $100 each at the dealer and another $120 to replace each at a local mechanic.

I am looking to install satellite radio unit my car. It is a plug and play kenwood unit. I am thinking of removing the ashtray shelf and placing the unit there. The size of the display unit is approx. 4"width x 2.5" height x 1" depth.

Does anyone know how to remove the ashtray shelf on a 98 GS300 without damaging anything?

Any suggestions on different locations for the unit?

I didnt want to go crazy and spend much, so I got Continentals T-rated. They are very soft and the ride is nice and smooth.

I did my grill a couple of weeks ago and it looks good. It only took me 3 hours to remove it, strip it and put it back on.

Recently I was able to eliminate a problem that most of us have with the 2nd gen. GS.

It was time to get new front tires so I went to my ocal mechanic and got two new rubbers put on in the front, rebalanced the rear tires and the ride is as smooth as new.

NO MORE Vibration at 60 mph. (On the 16in stock wheels)

The best thing for you is to get a new fog light. The best place is on ebay. I know for my car 98 GS300 the fog lights run $50-75 each.

But if you want to take the light apart. Stick it in the kitchen oven (don't use the microwave) for maybe 5 minutes and the glue/silicone will soften up so that you can remove the lense from the housing. Keep checking the light every minute or two to see if the lense will come off, but 5 minutes in the oven should do it. Stick a flathead screwdriver in between the lense and housing and slowly pry the lense off the housing. It should come off fairly easy, if not you need a few more minutes in the oven.

Then clean the lense and clean off the excess glue/silicone off the lense and housing.

After both pieces cool off silicone them back together.

I did this on both of my fog lights and they work just fine.

I had the same question when I bought my 98 GS300 in the summer time. Well guess what? Winter time they were working just fine. I think they are linked to the temperature indicator and just dont turn on if its warm enough. I tried them on one cool summer night and they didnt work, but come around October they were working just fine through the whole winter without any repairs.

Those side markers light up but only when you turn on your headlights or parking lights. However they do not serve as turn signals.

I personally dont like the rims you posted in the link. Just my opinion. These however would look awesome on any GS model.

I have a 98 GS300 with 20s and a 2" drop. I have no problems at all. One thing you might want to look into is the size of wheel you put on and the offset. My wheels are 20 x 8.5 and have 255/35/20 tires on them. However I dont know the offset of my wheels.

As you can see in the pictures the offset is probably minimal because the wheels do not have a lip, they are flush to the edge.

These look awesome, just the way they are. Just make sure you include LEDs for the turn signals and reverse and you are set. And make the turn signals that nice bright white color. It would be nice to get the DOT approval on them too with a certificate included in the box with the product just in case the pigs have any problems.
