  1. Hi all,

Here's another item from my previous GX at a bargain for other GX owners,

:censored:(specific links to one's items on eBay is against LOC guidelines.)

Please feel free to post your items in the Buy and Sell Forum on this website.

    Thanks for understanding.

  2. I want to install a rear facing child seat on the left or right side of the middle row seat. However, when I install the seat rear facing, the seat seems to easily flip backwards (ex. if I was rear ended, the child seat would flip backwards into the seat back).

I looked for lower anchors on the car that would prevent this from happening. Has anyone found these on their GX or had them installed?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I believe the latch hooks are on the passenger side only.

The driver side/center back seat hooks are European ISOFIX hooks, like this

  3. Is it possible to buy this model without leather seats. For example BMW uses something called leatherette that is free of leather. Does Lexus have any such option that has no leather in its seats?

    Thanks

IIRC all GX470s have leather interior, just different color options

  4. Could somebody tell me if at all anybody used non standard ( Mobil/Penzoil) ATF fluids has been ever used on GX model from Non dealers

if so your suggestion the brand, I had gone to the dealer and he suggest All toyota & lexus engines

should mandatory used the Transmission Fluid Type IV sold by the dealers in order for the transmission

warranty, Is it true, your advise !!!!

If your GX does not have a tranny dipstick then it is a "WS" ATF which leaves you with the safe choice of using original Toyota WS ATF only.

The 2003s uses the old T-IV which some aftermarket ATFs are compatible. I personally have Amsoil ATF in my 2003 (with tranny dipstick), I believe Valvoline Maxlife ATF is T-IV compatible too.

  5. Check this out The comments in there teaches you how to extract and burn the nav software into a Dual Layer DVD for it to work.

    Thanks Brick.

I will try this and let you know the results.

Have you downloaded this before? Why do you need a dual layer DVD if the file size is less than 4gig? If I am not mistaken, a blank DVD has at least 4.7GB?

    Rj

the file is a compressed image file, so after you uncompress it into the actual DVD image, it'll be 8+ GB and will only fit a DL DVD. Also, Verbatim discs have been noted to be the best to use with the Nav unit.

  6. Do you have a vaistech unit in the car? I had the same problem, among other problems. I thought it might be the vaistech unit. I contacted Eugene at vaistech and he immediately sent me a new unit, which fixed all the problems. You cannot beat his customer service.

cab2u, I have a Vaistech SLU in my 03 GX and occassionally (4 times over 8 months) the navigation gets "lost" placing my vehicle on the map miles away (one time 200+ miles south of my destination). Has there been official acknowledgment by Vaistech that their unit screws up the navi?

  7. I have a '03 GX470 w/ML sound system is it possible to hear the dvd sound thru the stereo speakers? I have not had an success finding how or if this works.

If you have the RSES, cycling through the "disc" button on the front console will get you "DVD" mode which plays the RSES dvd sound through the cabin speakers.

  8. I inserted the DVD and press the DISC-AUX button which leads to nothing but the Main Audio screen. I am unable to press the picture key and only set up the Screen size. I just see the track and hear the volume but no picture. Please help

no image on the rear seat entertainment screen? Did you press the "DVD" button on the remote?

  9. brickauto, what year is your GX, most later model GX have 100,000 spark plugs.

2003, service guide says 120k spark plug changes.

anyway I just replaced all the plugs with NGK Plats ($24 @ $3 each compared to the dealer's $200). The factory NGK Iridiums looks decent without significant wear, I'm keeping the factory 57k old plugs as spares for my beater Subaru :P

  10. I had a Volvo XC90 which I bought used from Carmax and subsequently blew a headgasket less than 4000miles into my ownership (had 50k+ on the odo). After 4 total visits for the fiasco, they decided to buy it back for the exact amount I paid for 8 months back.

I counted my blessings and by a stroke of luck they had a 2003 GX470 on the lot that was previous a Lexus CPO vehicle (documents were in the glovebox) so I jumped at it on the same day they took the Volvo back. :)
