  1. I need to change the rear motor mount on my 98 ES300.

But I have no idea if I this is easy enough to do myself and was hoping there was a DIY.

I tried searching but didn't see one.

Also, when I looked up the parts, it showed just the inserts and also one with the metal housing.

I'm assuming I could just use the inserts.

Does anyone have experience with this and is it easy enough?

  2. you never know until you open the case... do you know the fluid change history from previous owner? how was the color/smell/appearance of the old fluid? and lastly how many miles does it have?

at this point i'd say drive it to the ground .. it may last you many more miles.

on our '95 we always had this thing: when you start driving in the morning there is a slight lag from 2nd-->3rd gear (it shifts at higher rpm ~3krpm instead of 2-2.5), but then after few min's of driving its fine. 160kmiles on it. the fluid is red and clear with no funny smell or sediment. not sure if it was ever changed and im not taking any chances changing/flushing it at high miles.

My 98 has no problems with its tranny at 269K miles.

No problems shifting in cold or warm weather.

All I did was have the dealer change the fluid every 60K miles and no quick jerky starts or kickdowns.

  3. Congrats on the new ride.

These cars are fantastic for the money and they will last a long time provided that you take good care of them.

I bought my 98 ES300 new and it has been a very reliable car.

Only a few things that are problematic with these cars but you will find most DIY's on this and other forums.

My car has 234K miles on it now and it still drives like new.

I can't sell mine cause it's not worth much and I don't think there is really any valid reason to sell it.

Just going to drive it till she dies, which might be a long time from now.

    Good luck with your ride.

  4. My 94 ES300 (purchased as a certified pre-owned with 4,000 miles) had 327,000 miles on it the day it died. My goal was 500,000 but I fell short. I always had the oil changed every 3,000 miles, as well as the usual stuff. I now have a 2002 ES which I purchased with

58,000 miles on it in January 2007.

Can you elaborate on why the car died?

I am curious as to what can put the final nail in the coffin.

EDIT: Never mind, I read the answer on another post.

  5. I wonder how many miles would have been on my 91 LS400 if I still had it.

Back in 96 it had 110K miles on it.

Then it was in an accident and was totalled by my insurance company.

Just for fun, let's back calculate and see what I would have if I kept it.

    At 22K miles per year x 16 years = 352K miles! Wow!

    OK, I know that's not real miles but I have 234K miles on my 98 ES300 :-)

  6. My 1998 ES300 has a very high idle. I had the throttle body cleaned and the TPS replaced but the rpm still is around 1500 on the rpm gauge. Someone told me it probably is the Idle Air Control Valve but I don't know where it is located. Please help.

I am having the same problem now.

I just took off the IACV and cleaned it, put it back together and the car idles higher than normal.

Even after the engine warms up, it stays that way.

Anyone know what is going on?
