  1. my daughter bumped someone in the rx, since then the temp display is just "- -" on the screen.

I looked and found what im assuming is the temp sensor just dangling in front of the airdam/grill area. It looks like it clips on somewhere but i can figure out where.

I guess the sensor is busted somehow and thats whay i get no reading from it. Any way to test it? Anyone know if it clips on to something at both ends? like i said, mines just hanging.

  2. Possibly your neutral safety switch is going bad. To confirm, start the engine, step firmly on your brake, and change gears back and forth numerous times to clear the contact in the neutral safety switch. If it helps your problem, you need to replace the switch soon.

can you elaborate on this switch?

ours has done this afew times then just goes away.

    we're at 113k miles.

  3. when the CEL came on the first time my said it was after hitting some bumps. it stayed on for a few months now. the other day my car went through a carwash that has an undercarriage wash, when i was finsihed and i cranked it up, the light was out. later that day when i cranked it up after work the light was out until i put in reverse and it clunked into reverse, then the light came back on. makes me wonder if theres could be loose connection or something odd like that.

codes are 1130 and 35 btw.

  4. i have a 2000 with similiar behavior, but my CEL stays on all the time. the TRAC OFF light will come on after 10 mins of driving. its funny, i can restart and watch the clock...10 mins...here come the trac off light.

runs fine, i just have not made to autozone yet to pull the code. its a 00 w/91000 miles.

  5. ??

also...while looking around, i noticed thet that entire airbox assembly is not very secure. It easily moves around (the whole thing). Is this the norm?

Oh...on the MAF- did i clean it correctly or is there more to it?

All i did was remove the 2 screws and pulled it out and cleaned the amber colored end. I did not even disconnect the plug, just pulled it out enough. Do i need to remove it completely? is there more to it than the amber piece?

  6. Gas cap seems correct. I did not see any lines/hoses off of the back of the airbox. I did take off the (i think) MAF sensor and swabbed it clean with a qtip, it had a small amber colored teardrop shaped sensor.

No luck on the CEL but i changed a taillight bulb and got rid of that indicator.

I also found a small puncture in the washer fluid resevoir that was allowing fluid to leak out causing the low fluid light to come on. I sealed it up and will add some fluid tonight. So if that works, then I got rid of 2 out of 3 warning lights. Im gonna try to make it to an autozone to pull a code.

the rx runs like a champ though, engine is smooth like butter, perfect idle, no surges, pulls strong. almost 90k miles.

  7. My CEL came on and so did the "TRAC OFF" indicator. when the trac off lights up, the switch will not shut it off, its like the switch becomes useless. I can restart it and the trac off lights goes away and the switch works fine, then a few miles later it comes back until i restart. The CEL and the trac off came on at the same time. the CEL remains on all the time.

I disconnected the battery and restarted, the CEL went away but came back on with the trac off light within 10 minutes. The car runs fine and I notice nothing different about it. Any ideas?

its a 2000 rx300 fwd with almost 90k miles. Seems to run great, tranny is a little clunky going from P to R or D when cold but other than that its a good running machine.

    Thanks.

  8. wife has a 2000 rx300 non-awd. 80k miles and no signs of trouble, hoping to tons of miles out of it. I had the tranny fluiod serviced at the 60k service at the dealer, other than that it gets new oil every 3-5k and keeps on humming. I know her next car will be another lexus, hopefully not for a long time though, she wants to keep this rx for a long time.

Well Some will have good luck, but statistics still show a high failure rate of the AWD transmission in comparison to other vehicles. So be it.

Yes, we are glad NOT to have the awd.
