  1. I was the second owner of my 2002 GS3 and bought the extended warranty, but seat covers are not "covered" under this. I believe mechanical failures might be.

Anyway, the manufaturer warranty had just expired when the piping on the driver's seat started breaking loose. I went to my regular Lexus service shop, to which they said I was out of luck. I followed up with Lexus Corporate, who then followed up with my service shop. Corporate called me back and told me they were going to repair my seat at no cost to me and to contact the service manager to set up an appt. I did and a day later my seat was repaired.

  2. Hey everyone, I have a Millenium Silver, 02 Sport Design and have been going back and forth between which wheel and what set up to get (I know, very original situation LOL). I've narrowed it down to two wheels:

Tenzo GT6, staggered, graphite, or Konig Hot Swap (carbon fiber inserts) 19"s, 245/35 Falkens all around. These Falkens have a nice ride/performance balance, and the extra side wall ridge to protect the wheels.

I'd rather not drop the car (love the look tho) but I will put the wheels on first and see what the clearance from wheel to well is. I already have 17"s on there, the OZ special edition ones which I even get compliments on from the Lexus dealer, so wanted a more dramatic look for the Summer.

So, I guess as an informal "poll" any suggestions/feedback on either wheel choice?

  3. Hey, I've read so many posts about aftermarket tail lights and GS owners who wanted them, that I had to share this find with you.

    Smoke/Chrome Tail Lights for GS

I'm not sure if I like these, or know anything about them or the company which makes them, but it would be cool if someone bought these and posted pics.

These would probably look better with clear trunk round lights as opposed to the stock red ones.

  4. UPDATE:

I contacted Lexus Customer Service, and spoke to a rep about my situation. Long story short, the rep called me back yesterday to advise that the service manager had approved the repair as a "Good will repair" and directed me to schedule a an appointment to come in and have the piping repaired on my seat.

I'm not sure who suggested I contact customer service, or where I got the idea to do so...but thanks to everyone who offered their advice.

  5. The one I bought will work will work with the A/T with the gated shifter. I s/b getting it soon and will post pics.

The 2nd Gen ES and GS shift knobs are interchangeable and these cars can typically take a shift knob for an A/T car since there are no buttons (shift, O/D) on these.

I think the one in your 94 GS is interchangeable with the on in a 92-96 ES300. I found this on eBay.

    92-96 ES Shifter

I'd double check if the part numbers are the same, but if looks like a straight swap.

    I hope this helps.

  6. ebay has a bunch of oems. I believe they're more like $250 to $300 from the dealer.

    btw-I have a 06 GS430 shifter in mine...

    That looks pretty sharp!

I called Sewell Lexus and they quoted me $460 (I think it was actually more). I have the blackwood knob.

I've decided to go with a RAZO shifter, Silver model, I found on eBay. I've seen pics of this on other GS's (at CarDomain) and it looks cool. This one's specifically made for A/T gated shifters. I'll post pics once I receive and install it.

  7. The piping on the driver's seat of my 2002 GS300 is cracked in two places on the seat back and loose and coming off on the seat part. Now before anyone tells me to loose weight, that's not the issue! lol I have a funny feeling the seat covers I had over the Summer were part of the problem. They didn't fit very well.

I found out that under the manufacturer warranty, this would've been covered, but that expired and my

extended warranty won't cover the repair.

Has anyone been through this? I searched the forums, but couldn't find anything related.

I have a few places I intend to get estimates from. I'm in Long island...any one know of a good reputable auto interior repair shop in Western Suffolk?

  8. Okay i'm just picking up a 1993 GS300 so now im looking for somebody kit where can i get them. I like the JDM look

Congrats on the purchase...those first gen GSs are hot.

Well, if you look at the top of the 93-05 GS300/400/430 forum, you'll see a "pinned" thread which has a nice collection of body kits for 1st and 2nd Gen GSs

Also, this is a good source for almost everything that's out there:

    L-Tuned

I also troll ebay and have found kits on there.

  9. Does anyone know if the cargo net comes with anchors to secure to the inside panels of the trunk, or are the anchors (or knobs) already installed? I'm buying a used one and not sure if I need to get anchors or not.

    This is for a 2002 GS300

I just found out that the anchors are already in there, so just need the net. moderator, you can delete this topic if you want.

    Thanks

  10. I bought one and am getting the results I had hoped to. I agree that the filter doesn't last 10 washes, but I've gotten a good 7-8 uses out of each one. If I want to do a more "thorough" job, I wash the conventional way, but when time is an issue, this works great. I also only wash one section at a time and can usually wash both mine and my wife's car in about 20 minutes total.

  11. I called Lexus to inquire whether the rubber, all weather floor mats were available for my 02 GS. He told me they had only made it for the RX and GX until recently when they started offering it for the newer sedans. He suggested I check out weather tech, which I think is a great alternative to the OEM ones.

Let us know how you make out.

  12. I found a 2004 gs300 with 21k miles on it, white on black with navigation system fully loaded for 27 thousand, i know that the price is good cause the car is like brand new but is a gs300 enough performance. Im not speed racer so i really dont care about racing but i like to push the gas and move sometimes.

The deal you're getting sounds awesome! Here's a thought, go test drive a similar GS430 at a dealer and see if the performance from that one is worth the extra $$$.

Performance is a relative and personal thing, as Anthonyiez pointed out. I'd love to have the V8, but my GS300 "performs" nicely. When I want to stomp on it, she moves. If you want to race anyone, just make sure you pick on weaker opponents LOL. Oh and gas mileage in the GS300 is better in the 6 cylinder (23mpg vs 25mpg average), so that's something else to consider. So does it matter whether you can get from 0-60 in under 6 seconds or 7.8?

    Here's a good comparison write-up I found online: 2002 GS300 vs GS430

You could always go this route: SRT Turbo Kits B)

  13. I have the 2002 GS, with 17" (stock) wheels. I'd love to park her in the winter, but she's my daily driver. Right now, I have Michelin Pilots 235/45/17s on, but they're looking less and less like tires I'd trust to get me through the snow when it starts coming down soon in the next few months.

Also, when is best to use the "Snow" setting? I had RWD cars in the past, so I'm used to driving this set up in the winter. I had a 97 ES before this one and she did extemely well in the winter, with regular all seasons on there.

I'm thinking of getting 19"s for the Spring/Summer, so I'm OK getting more aggressive "snow" tires or good All seasons. I'd rather not spend $200 each for new Michelin's.

Any suggestions from anyone who drives their GS in the snow season?

  14. UPDATE:

I took her in for the appointment. The issue is called "caliper shift" and this is a natural occurence with these cars...at least that's what I was told by the service tech who handled my case. So, nothing was done to the front end and the suspense got a free bill of health.

Apparently, this shift is normal (and intended).

I'm not sure if this is related to the other posts I've seen in this forum for funky sounds coming from the front end, while turning, at slow speeds, or after applyign/releasing brakes...but it's all I have for now.

    Feedback?

  15. the clunk might be the brake pads being loose and shifting around in the calipers? do you hear the sound with the brakes applied when at speed while turning?

i would go with the teins first and worry about the swaybars later.

some people say the daizens are not aggressive enough and suggest TRD blues.

Interesting, I just had the brake pads replaced back in June and it's afterwards that I started hearing the noise. I'll pay close attention on my favorite off ramp turn where I turn in fast and tap the brakes right at the apex...I'll make sure to turn down the stereo though HAHAHA! I only have 22k miles on the car, so this seemes a little early for this type of issue.

I'm not looking for anything TOO aggressive, but your point is a good one.

    Thanks for the help!

    JJ

  16. I've recently started hearing a clunking sound coming from the front of my 02 GS, whenever I change gear (Drive/Reverse) or make a turn. I made an appointment to take the car to Lexus next week; I think the problem might be the front bushings (either front control arm or sway bar).

I'm wondering if this would be a good time to install upgraded front and rear stabilizer bars. I'd love to do the coilovers as well, but can't afford the $900 for the tein's I have my eye on.

Anyway, any feedback from the knowledgable Lexus crew would be hepful. Anyone ever had the clunking sound as well? recommendations on front/rear sway bar upgrades? I saw a set from "Daizen" on a Lexus-parts site.

    Thanks,

    JJ

  17. There is no best setup there is only what you want to get out of it.

    You want

    bigger

lowering clearance of fenders and shocks

    comfort

    18's in chrome

Your best bet is to get educated on a tire site like tirerack for basics . Offsets is not what causes calipers to rub but the "X-factor" . The GS has normal brakes so they are easy to find a wheel that works .

What do you want to lower it with>?

    How low?

I too want to drop my 02 GS 300 and get bigger wheels. I was considering 18"s, but have decided to go to 19"s (I have 17"s on now and want a more dramatic effect). I'm also considering the staggered look. I defintiely want to have at least 225-235s in front and 245s at the rear...or 245s all around.

However, I'm reading that offsets and dropping the car have a relationship, that until now I was not taking into account.

I've gone to Tire Rack's site, but I'm not too crazy about the selection and the ones that I do like, are out of my price range. I've seen wheels that I like on Wheels Next and on Best Wheel's sites.

I don't ever intend to go to bigger brakes, so that's not my concern. But I do want to drop my ride 1-1.5 inches and my first step will be to get lowering springs (either Eiback or Tein). I think the Tein drop is more than the Eibach one, but then the question is, what wheels will I get in order to drop and not have issues?

So, has anyone installed 19"s, staggered, and dropped using Eibach and Tein springs?
