  1. Well I'm about 1700 dollars poorer than 3 days ago..I took it to a tranny shop and they took it apart and found ALL the seals were hard as plastic instead of flexible and it needed a clutch pak (whatever that is)..Anyway it shifts like new and I would like to thank everyone who replied to my post....Thanks again, Bobby

  2. was there any sign of tranny problems before this happened?

It happened once before about a month ago but finally shifted to reverse but took about 2-3 minutes. Since then I noticed that once in a while, only in forward gears, I would have to take my foot off pedal to make it upshift. Then finally 2 days ago it just would not go into reverse at all...

  3. Hi y'all...Another little project arising..Is it possible to replace the window motor without removing the whole mechanism from the door? I havent taken the panel off yet so no idea if it is reachable..I tried lexls.com but no tutorial on the replacement.. Any help appreciated as usual..Thanks, Bobby (1991 LS400 Drivers side)

  4. I tried pushing the glass up with the help of a friend using the up switch and nothing..on the old posts about this problem, they make mention of resetting the limit switch ? How is this done and where is this switch...it seems that every problem anyone has had with this, the window stops about the same distance from being closed...roughly 2 to 3 inches... Bobby

  5. Thanks landar for your quick reply...I tried the switch and watched an interior light and it does dim slightly but I dont hear any click or grinding so the motor is drawing power.. If I have to replace it, is it a major endeavor ? I'll try tonight with a friend helping using the switch and lifting the glass on both sides... Thanks, Bobby

  6. Hi all!! Today when I opened my driver side window it stopped about 2 inches down and then wouldn't go up or down.. Checked the fuses and connections and all OK.. Need help as to how to remove the regulator and motor to replace it...All other windows work just fine..I'm hoping there are a couple of tricks someone might know to make it a little easier...Thanks in advance....Bobby 1991 LS 400

  7. Im experiencing some serious leaking problems during the Monsoon season here in Florida..dont know if its from the moonroof or its something else...It seems the worst along the sides above the doors but I was thinking that its backing up from the drains, which I cant find such as where does the water that comes in through the wiper panel drain out... I never see any water running out under the front or rear of the car....Ive tried running a garden hose soaking the wiper panel but nothing comes out anywhere....Any suggestions???? Thanks, Bobby

  8. Good Morning All......I have a slight problem with my tranny in the morning. It shifts into R with no problem but when I shift into D after backing out it takes at least a minute to go into gear. I checked the fluid level and its OK... I dont know if it is mechanical or electrical of whatever....Once the car is driven it never happens again until the next morning... Any help would be greatly appreciated..Thanks, Bobby

  9. Thanks Landar, I bought a couple of OEM bolts for UCA and you are right the bolts are long and would interfere with the shocks. Finally going to get around to replacing both sides= its been so hot down here the last 2 months you cant breathe in my garage soooooo, onward to my next project....I just replaced my alternator and P/S pressure hose (leaked badly) and now its charging right I quess, 14.3, but overnight the battery drops down to 10.6.. The battery is about 1 yr old. It NEVER DOES NOT STARTand goes right up to 14.3. Wondering if this is normal or could the battery have been sulfated by the alternator going south.. or do you think this could have anything to do with the dreaded trunk hinge wiring??? Thanks so much for your time....Bobby

I believe you may be right, Bobby. If you look at the other tutorial on removing the shocks, you will see that he first removes the upper ball joint from the control arm. And since that step is also required to pull the upper CA's, I think he just puts that step in there. If you can get a wrench on those side bolts of the CA, I do not see a reason why the struts need to come out other than giving you way more "working" room. On the other hand, the bolts in the upper CA may be so long that they would hit the strut trying to get them out. You can give it try and then report back. happy.png

  10. Hi all.... Im ready to replace my upper control arm (right side) and read the DIY at LexLS.com and it says I have to remove the shock (strut) to access the control arm. Is this really necessary as it looks very straight forward to me with it still connected, 3 bolts or nuts and its out. Am I right ? Thanks in advance for your replies.... Bobby 91 LS400

  11. This morning I freaked out when I started my 91 LS.. It made a noise from the front of engine compartment that sounded like an internal Knock or flutter but was external. Sounded like an engine knock or worse but was definitly external like a pully frozen or something like that except that everything on the engine was turning properly with no wobble or anything from any accessories connected to the serpentine belt. I have the usual leaky P/S pump with its occasional whine but keep fluid level up but it sounds too loud (like a clanking?) to be that. Stuck for answers right now and am afraid to drive it but the engine itself sounds normal. Please help ! Bob

  12. Google BBA reman..I had mine done 2 years ago and they are great. Back then I think it cost me 175.00 and they paid shipping both ways. Had it back in about 5 or 6 days. They dont have replacements, they rebuild your old unit.. Good Luck, Stroker

  13. I had my 91 dash cluster done over at bba-reman.com for 175.00 about a year ago. After you contact them, they send you an email with a shipping label, you pack it carefully and they pay the return postage. Good deal and I had it back in 7 days. You can still drive without the cluster but its a little weird not knowing how fast you are going and how much gas you have left. By the way, on mine it was just the lights around the tach and speedo and gauges that were out (the halo lights) so I kept driving cause I could at least see the needles and could guess how fast I was going. Found bba through a friend who works for Lexus. Definitely recommend them...Good Luck, Bobby

  14. Been reading about changing temp control sensor on front of engine 91 LS400 and want to try it..When I looked for the connection this morning I could not find it.. I found something on the top of the upper radiator hose inlet connection after I removed the plastic cover but it didnt have an electrical connector on it but it didnt look like just a plug (it had a bright blue top and a small hole in the center) and couldnt find a connector just sitting there. Could this be just a plug and the sensor is buried under there somewhere else? Thanks for your time and expertise.. Bobby

  15. Just had a complete P/S job done on my 91 LS400 and need to top off the fluid, the manual calls for Dextron II Transmission fluid, which I was told by two different indie parts stores that it is not made anymore...they suggested Dextron III or go to Lexus and buy the Toyota stuff for much more money. Is III OK to use? Thanks in advance, Bobby

  16. Good morning all... I have a new warning light on my dash. Its the brake light with the Exclamation point in it. It only comes on if I really accelerate fast from a stop and by the time I level off the gas pedal it goes out. No idea what causes it, brakes are fine and the e-brake is never on.. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Bobby

  17. I got mine from discountsteering.com for 325. plus core. Best price I could find anywhere. Good luck...

    Greetings,

Looking for a reputable online parts store to purchase a rack and pinion with evo for a 95 LS400. Dealer wants $531.00 for a remanufactured unit.

    Has anyone dealt with PartsGeek.com?

    Thanks In Advance!

  18. I bought a air valve for my P/S pump (leaking bad) but decided to just plug it instead. So I would like to get some of my money back by offering it on this forum. Part# 17630-16040 for my 91 LS400. Brand new in package from Toyota. Will sell for 80 bux including shipping. I paid 117.00 for it plus shipping! PM me if interested. Thanks, Bobby

  19. That sounds like the air control valve on the bottom of the P/S pump. It adds vacuum to the P/S at very low turning speeds so it will not creak or shudder and is connected to the air intake and to the top front of the engine intake by 2 vacuum hoses. Either one or both hoses are leaking or the valve if shot. I replaced the valve with a simple bolt (95 cents) or you could replace the valve (107.00). If the valve is leaking you will eventually fry the alternator... Bobby

When I am moving at very low speeds, my steering wheel creaks when turning. It is usually when I am making a big turn and the wheel is making a couple of revolutions. I do have a leaky boot on my rack, but this happens when the power steering reservoir is full. Has anyone seen this before?
