  1. I spent about a month doing research, trying to decide what next car to buy. It had to be comfortable for short hops, as well as long trips. Had to be decent looking, awesome looking would be better. Decent gas mileage. Between $10k and $15k. But mostly, it had to be bullet proof. It had to still be a good car AFTER it was paid for. I almost was heading for a Camry, or a slightly older Avalon. Then I found these GS models were in my price range, and I hunted and searched for trouble histories on them. Found very, very little. They fit the bill p0erfectly!

3 weeks now with my GS, and I'm not looking back! B)

    Go for it!!

  2. ...Some older Merc's too, but not many......

I'd pit a pre-1990's Benz against most anything. My '84 300SD diesel has 360k miles, and is still solid as a tank. Doors don't sag, no squeeks, no rattles, still rock solid at 100mph. One hell of a car!

But I wanted something a bit newer, that accelerates a bit better, and still built like a tank, or near to it.

So I bought a Lexus!

  3. After my last experience with a Chrysler('96 Cirrus) I won't miss the brand. It was the biggest P.O.S. I ever owned. We bought it new, and it was nothing but down hill afterwards. Flakey quality, rode like a truck, and very poor dealer support. We dumped it 3 years ago, traded for a very dependable '92 Subaru Loyale. Probably will be the last domestic car I'll ever own.

  4. Don't know if "turbo effect" is quite how to describe driving a Justy  , but yeah, it was kind of a slushy start, then a gradual build up of acceleration. Hard to describe. Reminded me of the old mini-bikes we used to ride as kids back in the 70's with the centrifugal clutches. Maybe the technology has gotten better with the CVT systems since the Justy, but I can't imagine the driving experience being very exciting. I LIKE the feel of a trannie going thru gears, even if it's smooth and subtle.

  5. Jeeze, I hope not. I drove one of those Subaru Justy's some years ago. (I think they were the first to use a CVT in production, weren't they?) It sucked. 'course that car would've sucked with ANY transmission, but I didn't like the overall effect. Felt too "dead".

  6. I've probably owned 40 or 50 cars in my life. Lost count long ago. C.R.S. disease <_<

But by far, the worst was a '86 Audi 5000. I owned it for about 2 months, and dumped it! Was one thing after another. And it wasn't my first Audi. I had 3 or 4 before it, and loved 'em.

  7. Justa howdy here

Been driving a nice 'ol Diesel benz for several years, but decided it was time to move up to something newer, and a bit faster. Did a mess of research, and decided Lexus was the way to go. Hope these cars are all you guys say they are

    Found a '99 GS300 on E-Bay a couple weeks ago with only 34k miles on it, for $16k. It's a sweet ride!

I'm hoping that I don't NEED to get to know all of you real well  Been pretty active on www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum for several years, and believe it or not, didn't get any flak from them when I told them what I bought.

So far, only issue it has is the funky stereo display. I see here that it's a common problem. I'm a D.I.Y.-er, so will order the display and get that fixed soon.
