  1. Dont get it. a car with that many miles is not worth 7,000. you can find some gs400's with less miles for that amount of money. i got my gs300 for 7,000 with 116,000 miles and i still feel like i got ripped off.. the last owner had the maintainance done on time and everything and had the papers to prove it. mine came with upgraded 19 inch wheels to. id say dont take it. but still look around for a gs300/400 they are very reliable cars. and like me... your gunna love it :]

Then, how much would you pay for this? Another guy apparently offered $5,000 arguing mileage is too high but the seller turned it down.

Also, I didn't know CARFAX had raised prices. I used CARFAX in 2004 or 2005 and I believe the deal was $29.99 for unlimited search for 1 month. Now, it's only 1 for $29.99 and only 5 for $39.99; I guess monopoly (almost) is a sweet thing.

Also II, does any Lexus dealer provide the car's history with given VIN number? For free or for a fee? Can this be done via phone and fax/email without actually visiting the dealer?

I won't pay more than $5,000 for that car with that miles, if the seller won't sell it then I suggest you go look for another car. And for CARFAX reports, seller should get you that...you shouldn't pay for it.

  2. The battery is still a possibility. The CR1616 is not a popular battery and sometimes they sit too long on the shelf. They can be weak when you buy them. If you find an Eveready-brand battery and it's marked "Made In Japan," it's likely you're buying a good battery. I've used all kinds and some brands are just cheap junk.

ok, i will try to get one online! hope it works

  3. no reprogramming required... check the contacts for oxidation... was at working at all with the older battery or did it stop working and a new battery didn't fix the issue?

it was working before with the old battery; but i had to press it several times just to get the door open. So i assumed the battery is low; now i just broke it...hahaha

  4. It is time to replace the battery on my 05 GS300. Does anyone have any suggestions. Help with type and the correct dimentions (physical size) would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Russ

I would suggest you only use a Lexus replacement battery. My '98 GS3 came with a Panasonic battery from the factory in Japan that lasted 10 years! I don't think you want some dumb looking yellow or red top battery sitting in the pristine engine bay of your '05, do you? Come original.

His 05 has an OEM battery in it... it obviously hasn't lasted 10 years.

My 02's OEM battery lasted a good 4 years...

but for what an OEM battery cost, just go with another brand battery... chances are the black shroud that was with the old battery will still fit over the new one.

My experience with the OEM Lexus battery was outstanding - 10 years of service is longer than ANY other OEM battery I have ever owned. I'm just relating my Lexus experience; Russ can read all of the comments and then decide for himself.

I am still running on my OEM battery; and got no problems with it for few years

  5. When i changed my oil today and replace the filter; i was checking the sterring fluid as well as the brake fluid. Apparently the steering fluid should look red right?, but mine has a dirty brown colouring. As for the brake fluid, it is looking not too healthy either. anyone know how to flush them out, and replace them with new fluids? I have an 02 gs300; thanks for the help guys.

    anyone can help?

  7. My moms car...she called me tonight and said that her "Oil Light" (the little oil can deal with a drip coming out of it) has been coming on and off...I am not near her and dont have the manual in front of me...What is the common cause of this. I know the oil was changed less than 5k miles ago (probably around 2500-2750 miles ago)

    Thanks,

    Casey

    maybe the oil is low?

  8. I have a 98 GS 300. I started having problems with it starting a couple months ago. I changed the alternater and battery and it worked perfect for acouple of weeks. Then when I put the key in the ignition the steering wheel would come down and everything would come on but when I would try to start it everything went dead I could turn it back off and try again and sometimes it would start and sometimes everything would go dead again. Now It still goes dead when I try to turn it on but if it trys to start it will not turn over it just keeps trying to crank. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I had an issue before when i turn the keys the car won't start; but it cranks. The radio is working and lights as well; so i took my car in for service but all they did was change the battery. problem fixed!!! something about it requires "this amount" of voltage to start the car, anyway i got the basic idea when they tried to explain but the car is fixed...haha

  9. I went to auto zone the other day, and the salesman keep telling me synthic is not worth the money. so i just end up getting mobil 1

mobil1 is synthetic..... and don't listen to the guy at autozone... he's not a technician he's a salesmen.

man, what's that i get for been a newbie... ohh well, i learned my lesson

  10. Lexus sometimes will occasionally send a coupon for $19.95 oil change. If you trust outside shops, they have coupons too that make changing oil yourself almost not worth it from a purely financial standpoint. You will have to buy the oil drain pan as well, an extra expense but worth it if you continue to change the oil yourself. Any local garage will recycle your used oil for you.

I always get my oil change at the dealership; anyone out there get them done at the local shops? and never received a coupon from the dealership before... B)

  11. you can use the mobil1 high mileage if you want... although i don't use high mileage oil.. some crazy old guy that was rummaging through a dumpster once told me that it just has an additive to swell your seals slightly... similar to some stop leak products...

i change mine every 5000 miles or 5 months and most times its still fairly clear. i love the synthetic though! wouldn't use anything but that! most jiffy lubes or oil change places or auto zone will collect your oil so PLEASE dont throw it into a a dumpster!

    brian

Don't you need a very good oil filter if you change them every 5,000 miles? Fram filter probably wont work right? so if i use synthetic i can just change it every 5k?

and i promise wont throw it into the dummpster, or have make my trashman take it...lol!!!

  12. i run 10w-30 in the summer and 5w-30 in the winter. always use full synthetic and a mobile 1 filter! just my $0.02 here

thanks. is synthetic that much better? and do i use high milage oil? by the way, would it be ok if i just put the old oil in the dumpest? or i need to take it somewhere for recycling?

  13. i always get my oil change at the dealer; but since i just lost my job...going to save some money by changing it myself.

i have done some research on how to change the oil for 02 gs300; but there isn't much info out there. can anyone give me some advice? like what oil i should use, and filter. my car is at 81,000miles. and what is Oil drain plug gasket? thanks in advance.
