  1. just put new pads/rotors on my 1990 ls 400, the car has a noise that seem to eminate from the right front, that sound like a deep rumbling, and will even continue after the car is at a complete stop. The car was doing this prior to pad/rotor change, funny thing is if I put it in nuetral before braking it seem to be less prominent, also if I slip it into N at a stop the rumbling noise will stop imediatley

  2. Try your controls. With treble maxed, what do you hear? Can you hear the tweeters at the corners of the dash? Does adjusting your treble pots make any difference on the back door speakers? If so, then the fronts are likely shot.

Yes I've tried every thing, they don't have the rattle that a broken speaker has, and I could see one side, but not both, it almost sounds like a loose connection some where before it splits of to the speakers, I'll have to dive into it and find out, if I find somthing, I'll post it. thanks M Berrett

  3. Hi guys,

Just picked up a 1995 sc400 and the first thing that needs to go are the rims. I have an option between 19x8 or 20x7.5. I personally like the styling on the 20's a bit more (TIS 07 http://superbuytires.com/TIS/Style%2007/?t...ze=245%2F35R20) but the width seems a bit thin. Do you guys recommend that or the 19's (TSW Chromed Rib http://www.wheelsdirectonline.com/tsw/ribsilver.htm) Also, will I have any issues with rubbing at all? Any thoughts? Decision time is within 2 hours! Oh yea, they are going on a pearl SC. Thanks for your wisdom SC gurus!

I have 20" wheels, Anella stargates, they look awsome, they make the car, they don't look too over the top, or too much bling, just right.

  4. Instrument panel lights on my 96 sc400 have had problems since Ive owned the car, the needles lights will fade out in the middle, or toward the base in warm, hot weather, and will shine bright in cold weather, latley the fuel needle has gone out all together, is this an easy fix i.e. a bulb, or some convoluted problem that will cost a fortune?

  5. Where can you purchase hood struts for sc400, with out shelling out $120 apeice? I've found gas charged hood struts, at cheap prices for every model lexus, except the sc, is ther a conspiracy here, help. no autozone, pep boys, even e-bay is is supprizingly devoid of this item, I dont want to go to the stealership.

  6. Since my SC400 has a cracked/worn driver seat I would like to do some updating instead of just covering it with standard tan.

Has anyone done a 2-tone interior? My car is black with light tan interior.

I'm thinking of black leather seats with light tan suede pads and tan stiching.

Would anyone have pictures of 2-tone seats or other custom interiors.

(No orange ostrich seats please.... :D )

    Thanks!!

where did you get that shift handle, wow! I want one.

  7. I had the same problem on both seats when I purchased my SC ('93). I took the seats out and found out a "cap" came off where the torque from the motors "drive shaft" transefers to the lead screw inside the track. This let the gear come out and not transefer the power. The problem I encountered was that the thread size and pitch is EXTREAMLY rare. It's M16x1.00 . No one makes this size die or bolt or anything else (at least that I could find). So I went up and got a M16 oil drain pulg from a local place and "made it fit". You need to drill it out also.

Could you provide a bit more detail; first off where are the front seat mount bolts, and once you get it out, would you elaborate more on your repair. thanks

  8. my 96 sc400 needs to have the passenger side door latch/lock assembly changed, the door handle rod slipped out; (broken rod clip;) and was bent donward when the window was lowerd, when I bent the rod back, it broke off, the door handle pull rod, is part of the door latch/lock, and cannot be replaced, you must replace, the entire assembly. of coarse the dealership wants over $500.00 for the work, the part goes for $280.00, any tips out there.

Did you have to remove the seat to accomplish this? I can see, with a flash light and mirror, that only one of the worm gears is turning, but it difficult to get a true picture of whats going on, when my wiew is upside down, and backwards.

  10. My heat blows cold too. I tried swapping those two vacuum lines, but nothing changed. I think the valve might be bad, but I don't have a multimeter handy to test it at this time. They said the heater core is 16 hours labor to change out because they have to remove the entire engine to get at it. Is that true?

Also, as soon as I press the front defrost button, the A/C lights up, and the vents open up to outside air. That makes absolutely no sense to me. Is that normal, or is my climate control just FUBAR?

Oh, and I just read the last 2 posts now, I will go get a hose joiner and try that method. Thanks.

A/C light on is normal, dry warm air defrost beter than moist warm air.

  11. Did you check the track to make sure nothing is preventing the seat to move on that one side. Like a coin or something. Thats the only thing I can think of. Is this something that previously worked ok and now its not?

yes it worked yesterday, Ill have to get under the seat with an inspection mirror and flash light

  12. I'm having a problem with the pasenger power seat on my 96 sc400, the motor works, but the seat seems to be stuck on somthing, but its not. One side will move a few inches back and forth, while the other remains still, any ideas. I have looked under the seat with a mirror and flah light, and observed the motors, and worm drive gears, it apears that one of the worm gears is not rotating. There apears to be an enclosed drive shaft runing from the motor, to the oposite side, but because its enclosed, I can't see whats happening. My next question is, how do you remove the seat, it dose not appear to a strieght forward task.
