  1. I have mine 1996 ES300 at 192000 miles, so far the only problems was the EGR modulator was bad and has been replaced (cost $72). I changed my oil every 5000 miles, change and replaced transmisson fluid & filter every 25000 miles, I change thermostat every 45000 miles and flush the coolant while I change the thermostat ( I don't want to wait until it fail because it will cost me a lot of money if it overheat), this is my second battery so far, and I need to change tire soon. Brake pad is not major job, but when you buy that car you need to check if the timing belt has been replace or not, very important to change timing belt at 90000miles, I have changed mine twice already. The instrument bulb has been replaced as well, 3 burnt lights. Well....so far so good. I believe that if you take care the car, it will last for a long time.

  2. Well, I found these problems quite bit. My customer one day took his car to get timing belt and waterpump replaced, and when I changed it I notice that the timing was wrong, so I adjusted where it should be. After customer pick it up, he called me and wonder what did I do to cause the car run so much better. So I told him what happened. ( He has 185K miles on his ES300)

Other customer had a tune up with regular plug, replaced it with lexus recomendation, changed air filter and check the timing. that improved his car quite bit.

Transmission also sometimes cause problem when it's clogged, Dirty air intake could also cause problem.

So, first check your timing, check spark plug and air filter, clean air intake and please check your transmission oil.

  3. No, what he means is that 47miles were added to his Full tank miles. So, he went from 360 miles per full tank to 400 miles per full tank not 47mpg. ;)

Hm... I wonder why he said " I wanna make it to 400 miles a tank -- any suggestions? " That's mean he did not go to 400miles yet

maybe I should go back to English class...oh well cheers.... :D

  4. Hey Braxton...I got 50miles/gallon.....secret is drive for 28miles, stop ,and walk for the next 22miles. :P

How did you figure it out that you can get an average 47miles braxton ? if i calculate the way you stated 360miles/16.5gal= 21.8miles/gal, which is worst than original lexus claimed. If you are using K&N Filter you should get more power not more miles. Higher intake will decrease the mpg. ;)

  5. RX300 transmission is not bad at all, I have seen someone's RX have close to 215K miles with the same transmission. He told me that he always change tranny fluid and filter every 15K miles and oil & filter every 5K miles, the only things that went bad on him are the oxygen sensor, EGR modulator and thermostat so far...oh and battery (which are normal at that miles). Bytheway for those of you that have over 90K miles, timing belt replacement is a must.

  6. P1153 should be Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) insufficient switching bank 2 sensor 1, which is located in the front by your exhaust manifold. The best condition in which to remove the sensor is when the engine is moderately warm ( NOT HOT). The exhaust maniford has developed enough heat to expand and make the removal easier. You can do it yourself, take it to dealer will cost you arm and leg.

  7. please explain to me how the fan can spin with the engine off if it is run by the powersteering pump which runs off the engine??????

I am sorry if my suggestion above was not clear, I assumed he knew that in order to do the test, the engine must be on.

Yeah I treid it with the engine on.. still no luck.

Lexusboy04, I haven't give up on you yet, I'm still scratching my head. Please try to test the solenoid valve for the hydraulic motor fan,Using an ohmmeter, measure solenoid valve resistance. Resistance should be 7.6-8.0 ohms at 77°F (warm up a little).

  8. I have tried that. I unplugged the sensor by the therm stat housing and the fan does not spin at all; I have interpreted that as the sensor not being the problem; becuase if I am not mistaking by unplugging that sensor I am bypassing the sensor altogether. Right?

    Lexusboy04 lexus es300

Try to jumper the OP1 and E1 on Data Link Connector,When terminals OP1 and E1 are connected, the circuit of the ECT sensor is grounded, the cooling fan should run at approx. 1,100 rpm(fail safe operation occurs). If still does not work I am affraid you probably have a bad Cooling Fan ECU (located inside under the dashboard of passenger side)

  9. You guys have helped me out alot at trying to diagnose this problem with my cooling fan- thanks alot. My cooling fan still does not spin at all. All sensors are ok, fuses are ok cooling components like water pump, therm stat, are all ok. I have even tried replacing the hydraulic fan itself. Finally my mechanic thinks it might be a solenoid issue. Before I go out and buy another part I do not need does anyone have any thoughts on this issue. Is there a way to troubleshoot a ps/cooling fan solenoid? Is this "screen" I hear about on the solenoid on the es300, could it clog and possibly stop my fan from running? Any advice guys would be very much appreciated. I am desperate at this point and out of a few hundred dollars.

Have you tested the cooling Tempature sensor for cooling fan? It control the cooling fan spin. It is located by thermostat housing, unplug it and it should give a high spin for the fan, if it does not normally the sensor is bad, remember is not the coolang temp. sensor by the rad cap (that one is for the temp. gauge).

  10. Has anybody had their RX330 Engine check light go on and VSC?

Well it happened to mine this afternoon. I called up the service guy at Lexus and he says it could be a short in the system, which would cause the VSC to shut down. Or the gas cap itsn't tight enough. I tried tighten the gas cap a couple of turns and no luck.

There could be anything, and he says to bring it in. Will have to wait until Monday, they only do oil changes on Sat. Anybody have any ideas why the light will go on?

How many miles is your car? Do you feel or notice any different after the check engine light on? Dealer is right could be anything or something simple like gas cap is not tight enough. Do this only if you don't feel any different, after you check the gas cap is tight open the hood then open the fuse box, pull EFI fuse for 15 sec, then put it back it should clear the check engine code. If there are still a problem with your car the check engine light should come back within a few minutes ( after the engine get warm up) or a few miles, if it does not come on again that's it the gas cap was not tight enough. But if it is then take it to dealer on Monday. Please update the situation....really like to know what is going on..Thks

  11. The Air bag off light is on when a 90lb adult sat on the front passenger seat.

Is this normal, or Lexus can adjust the weight sensor to suit. For RX330

That is not normal, it is still under warranty take it to the dealer. B)

  12. I am in St Louis, MO and I got a 48 month lease for my wife for a:

    2004 RX 330

    * white exterior / ivory interior

    * premium package

    * heated front seats with ran sensing wipers

    * power rear door

    * transmission cooler

    * wood and leather steering wheel

The MSRP for the car was $40,425

Our lease was for $4000 down+ $851 (Taxes, registration, first month payment, etc) and $451 per month for 48 months.

What do you guys think of the deal? Did we get ripped off or was this a good deal?

    :)

The car is already in the garage....Enjoy it!!! what ever you did you can not change it, just relax enjoy the car.... ;) who cares other can get cheaper? you could afford it at least. And the most important thing is that you've made your wife very happy..... :)

  13. Have a '95 ES 300 and the antennae got stuck for some reason. It will go up and down with some help, but I can't keep doing that. It has since been bent and now I believe I need to replace the mast. Never done it before and was looking for some help. Is it difficult, easy, do I need any special tools. I may sell the car soon, so I'd rather not spend a ton of money at the dealership.

    Thanks

go get the replacement mast, Pepboys sell for toyota camry which not much different from es300 (around $25 and MUST be for toyota). Unscrew the nut that holding the mass on the outside, then turn on the radio it should push the mast out and just help pulling it. To install a new one just turn OFF the radio and put the plastic mast back to the antenna, screw it back then you are done.

  14. Hello people

Well of course I had to jinx myself the other day by boasting about how my beloved car has not given me one single problem since purchasing it a year ago!

Earlier this week the "Check Engine" light came on while I was driving. I just had an oil change the week prior - not sure if that's relevant.

So I checked the manual like a good girl, and proceeded to check the gas cap and all that good stuff -but to no avail. I concluded that it was time for a $450.00 tune-up at the dealer. :cries: Mind you I have barely put 5K miles on this car since I got it!

Now, I should add that with gas prices being ridiculously high out here in L.A. - I haven't been buying premium gas - as a matter of fact my gas tank hasn't been over a half of a tank full for about a month now - I have bad car karma any time I fill up my tank - but that's another story!

So this morning on my way to work - the light mysteriously went off! Just like that.

I got so excited I even opened the sunroof ;)

Any advice or insight as to why this would happen? Happy 4th everyone!!

check engine light is mostly emission problems, take it to local shop that service mostly toyota, they will have the scanner to see what code # that causing the check engine light. Is the car feel any different right now? is it rough idle? it is really hard without the OBD Scanner, and really hate to guess unless you know from the scanner. But try this first, check your gasoline cap make sure is tight until make a click sound, then pull EFI fuse (it is located close to the battery label it Fuse)find EFI fuse which is above horn fuse ( not EFI relay). after you find it pull it out about 20 second then put it back. What it does is reset the computer.

If the gas cap is not the reason, the light will come back on sometimes after a few minutes or sometimes a few miles. If the gas cap that causing the problem than the check engine light will stay off.

  15. Hi members,

    I have '95 LS400, 90K miles, and I'm willing to change/replace timing belt.

Q1. When is an appropriate time to change timing belt? How do I know when to change and what to look for?

Q2. Can anyone publish full instructions for changing timing belt? (w/ pics. if possible? :P )

Q3. Where can I order all lexus parts? Any recommended sites? (if yes, URL?)

I would be much appreciated if someone could reply me with above questions answered. Thank you in advance. :D

Timing belt jobs is not an easy job for beginner, I would recommend you to hire mechanic to work in your place and watch him as he does the job. Timing belt job is not the same as you changing regular belt.

  16. Diagnostic by the dealer indicated that O2 sensors are bad. I changed the sensors and rest the light but after two weeks of driving about 600 miles the light is back on. Car start fine and drive fine. Anyone knows what could be wrong?

    Will appreciated any hints.

    Thanks

    ;)

Just like skperformance said....what code did the dealer tell you? there are two O2 sensor (bank 1 & bank2) one is located in the front by the manifold and one under the engine close to the catalic converter, if you did changed the front one than replace the other one. I hope that dealer give you the code because check engine light is not only cause by O2 sensor.

  17. Yeah, I ended up using the free tow truck service . . .

Got in my car, and the battery was dead. I got a boost from the two truck and drove 30 kms and had to get gas. Pumped up and the battery was still dead! The battery should have recharged after 30 kms, shouldn't it?

Anyways, I got a boost from a lady in a Mustang, and I actually had to let my battery charge a bit before it would turn over. This shouldn't have been needed as I was just driving the car :(

So, it sounds like my alternator is fried. I checked the fuse and it was OK.

Is it posible that it is something more simple like wiring shorting out or something? The tow truck guy thought my alternator was OK because it was charging up his boosting apparatus after my car had started . . .

I am so confused! Please help! I took my motorcycle to work today so that I wouldn't have to worry about the battery . . .

    Thanks,

    Bryan

Bryan please don't drive the car unless you already test the alternator using the method that I've told you in the earlier post. It is really sound like alternator is bad. Anyway please response after you do the checking/fixing. PS: Please remember all the wire that you unplug and tight the belt.

  18. Ok. my ps is ok, I've switched out the ECT Sensor and that fixed my temp guage problem thanks! But still my hyraulic fan is still not coming on, I have checked all of my fuses, and they all seem to be ok! I have a new water pump, and t-Stat. Any advice!

if the temp gauge is ok now, and all the fuse is ok (make sure double check), have you check another temp sensor for cooling fan? it is located by the thermostat housing. If you follow the hose that coming from radiator to the thermostat housing (just behind the engine oil cap), it should have another sensor, first unplug it and start the engine see if the fan spinning high. If it spin then the fan no problem, sensor is bad if it still does not spin it could have other problem.

  19. My car - 92 Ls 400- is starting to vibrate like -put put put- when i press the brakes... possibly new brake pads??? and please dont tell me i have a bad rotor :)

the shaking when you press the brake pedal is cause by the rotor, you need to re-surface it, just like ls400lexus said. You will be able to check if you need the brake pad when you take the wheel off, sometimes you don't need to change the brake pad but it is recommend if you re-surface or purchase a new one to change as well the pad, if you are short on cash just take it to the machine shop to re-surface it. You can not switch the rotor from the back to the front, they are not the same as well as the brake pad totally different size. The shaking project is the front brake job not the back.
