  1. Need some advice on an exhaust system: I'm considering either the Tanabe Medallion or Borla cat back systems. I want the deep tone at idle but don't want it too loud at full throttle or highway cruising. Does anyone have any experience with the two systems that could advise?? FH>

i have the tanabe medallion on my 02 gs300. i am pleased with the sound. there is a noticeable difference under acceleration, but on the highway cruising, the sound is minimal. i am most pleased with the performance gain i got from the system along with the srt intake i have installed. i also installed a different b-pipe, so my overall performance differances will differ from yours.

  2. You don't have to replace the filter, It will last forever. There are 3 magnets on the tranny pan that collect any shavings. I suggest that you put an inline filter on the return line from the bottom of the radiator, While you are at it install a tranny cooler. I have both and my tranny fluid is always just as red as new. I also drop the fluid once a year if it needs it or not, $12.00 is cheap insurance.

dcfish, what type of inline filter are you referring too. is that similar to a remote oil filter type of deal? could you explain please. thanks.

  3. got a 99 GS300 w/134xxx miles.....on a full tank which is about 16 1/2 gallons I get about 290 miles.....is that decent? I do some hard driving but not often.

my 02 300 has 148K and i routinely get 400 miles on 16+ plus gallons. I drive 112 miles a day for work and some city driving.

  4. I have a 2003 GS 300 RWD with V rated tires. The dealer is suggesting I can switch to a H rated tire (more options) and said it is OK. Anyone else have experience with this?

I am looking at Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S in 225/55/16.

I have an 02 gs300 with these tires and they have been the best set of tires I have owned. No problems whatsoever. 48K miles on them with at least another 10K to go. Perform beautifully wet or dry. Not sure about snow; doesn't snow much in texas. Well worth the money.

  5. Hey ya'll, I installed a tanabe medallion touring cat back system along with a megan racing b-pipe on my 02 300 about a week ago and I have to tell ya I am impressed with the overall performance. Noticeable change is the increased throttle response and improved acceleration at all speeds. While cruising at 70 mph, my rpms are reduced by about 100. It appears gas mileage will be a little better. Will know more as I drive the car more. Noise level inside is noticeable under acceleration, but neglible when cruising at hwy speed. Anyway, for what its worth and if anyone was considering this upgrade, I would recommend it. See ya.

I don't want to mislead anyone, so I should add I have a SRT intake with ECU installed as well. The three together provide for much improved performance. Thanks.

How much did you spend for those ( three toghether) ? wanna put those on my GS

    D. C. - The intake was $600, B-pipe was $140, and tanabe medallion touring exhaust sys was $800. I bought the intake and ecu through swift racing at www.swiftracing.com and the b-pipe and exhaust sys through driven by style (megan racing products) at www.drivenbystyle.com. Kind of pricey, but IMHO worth the money.

I bought the intake first and the exhaust sys at a later time. Once the exhaust was installed, overall perfomance was greatly increased. I dont have access to a dyno, but by my seat of the pants testing, there is a very noticeable difference in performance with all three working together. All very easy to install. Read the installation instructions for the intake and ECU very carefully though. Enjoy!

  7. Hope everyone is doing good out there.. I'm in the market for some new tires.. I own a 03 GS300 and have some Z rated Yokohama's which are in need of replacing soon. A couple tires I am looking at are the Goodyear Assurance triple tred or stay with Yokohama's and change to a Avid TRZ. If anyone has suggestions or comments about what they are using that would be great. Stock rims 225/55/16

    Thanks

Michelin is a good bet. I have a set of Pilot Exalto A/S on my 02 GS and I am very satisfied with them. About 42,000 on these so far and still have plenty of tread left and they still ride and handle great. Good luck.

  8. hello all, here recently i have noticed on acceleration the engine tends to bog down or stumble when the throttle is depressed about a third of the way. it is really noticeable after being at highway speeds then exiting and trying to accelerate from a near complete stop. i have repair manuals and i have checked the MAF, throttle body motor, and tps for resistance checks and they are good. there are no codes present. i dont have a lexus hand held tool, so a lot of the checks in the manual i can not do. does anyone have any thoughts? thanks in advance.

How many miles on the GS ? Have you ever cleaned the TB ? Check for any vaccum leaks, Does it idle normal ?

it has 134,000. i cleaned the tb when i installed the SRT intake and ecu about 10,000 miles ago; i hope that is not the problem. i haven't checked for vacuum leaks and it idles normally. i will check the vacuum leaks tonigt.

checked for any vacuum leaks, could not find anything.

  11. thanks for the info. i figured as much. i think i will pass. i still have the stock audio system and no plans to upgrade.

welcome but this isn't really just a audio upgrade....everyone's car can get some form of help with better grounding.

Build your own by replacing grounds and maybe adding a 1 farad cap as that is all it is.

It does work well on older cars with older wiring

or he could do a big three upgrade.

okay you got my curiosity up, what is a big three upgrade?

  12. On the l-tuned website there is MR hyper voltage system listed that states it will increase hp, torque, throttle response, etc... Anyone have any experience with this product? Thanks for the help.

its just a grounding system....they work well when hooked up to best spots and when i had my Honda i fooled around on the dyno to find the best spots as the ones they recommended worked but i wanted to see if i could extract extra from it. and you REALLY wont notice the increase in hp, torque or throttle response. i mean its really not substantial. i might go back to one since I'm doing my audio build for better grounding

  13. no s@#$, that's why their sold together

well the OP asked about a programmer....and since you apparently aren't all that bright....the SRT ecu ISN'T a programmer! its just a ecu made to use with the intake....IT IS NOT NOR WILL EVER BE A PROGRAMMER!

you know what my friend, you can kiss my !Removed!! what goes around, comes around. i have been reading a lot of your posts since becoming a member and you are the most arrogant S.O.B. on the forum and typically insult people on a regular basis. you may be (i use the words may be lightly) knowledgable, but you need to get over yourself. no wonder you have been suspended from posting many times before. have a nice day !Removed! head!!

In addition genius, if you look at the OP's original message he asks about programmers or ecus in the message title.

  14. i was looking at programmers but i dont know what to buy and suggestions??

for what its worth, i recommend the swift racing tech (srt) high flow intake and race ecu. look to pay about $600. i have one on my 02gs300 and love it. easy install with noticeable performance increase. you will hear it, but its not too bad.

this wont control engine ONLY piggy backs ecu for air/fuel....and does NO good without SRT intake.

  16. Ive ben looking for threads here to se if I can find a bolt on set of headers that need no modification for my 2000 gs300 but I just kept going back and forth so if anyone knows of any please let me know.

O and I would allso like to know what is the best website for my kind of lexus performance parts. thanks.

i was considering headers for my 02 gs300, but decided against it because of emissions testing in my county. The header i was considering buying was from Mazzuri Super. Their website is http://www.mazzurisuper.com/ and run about $850. Out of the others I looked, these appeared to be constructed much better. They were also helpful over the phone and email. see ya.

  17. Installed a SRT intake and ECU approx. 2 weeks ago on my 02 GS300 and now I am getting reoccurring codes P0440, 441, and 446. I am assuming it is from the CCV being removed. The install instructions did not address this or what to do with this valve. Basically, it was bypassed by adding a rubber hose from the fuel vent line directly to the air filter. Is there any way to fix this problem? I have an email into the folks at SRT, but no response yet. Thanks for the help. See ya.

  18. make sure you didn't knock and hoses loose... without the CEL code we know about as much as you at this point...

I removed the throttle body to clean it so I know there was no chemical in the intake or left over in the throttle body. All hoses and connections were made correctly. Went to the auto store and used their diagnostics machine. Was unable to find a code, probably because of my inability to use the equipment correctly. I was able to use the clear code function and the light went out. To this point it has not come back on. Not exactly sure what caused it to come on, but the car runs great. Thanks for the input.

  19. Has anyone bought any products from Swift Racing Technologies for their GS 400? I am looking for improved performance (power/ acceleration) without getting too expensive. I have not done any modifications on my car yet. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should start off? Exhaust system, air intake, etc....

    Thanks, Scott

I just installed a SRT intake and ECU on my 02 gs300 this week for about $550. I have to say I can feel the difference and the install was pretty simple. The ECU is not just a plug in comp., at least on my model, you have to solder in the connections. You will hear the intake working. I am pleased so far. See ya.

    http://www.swiftracing.com/SRT/item.aspx?id=85&u=2000026

its on sale this week for 480 for all models for the srt intake. they all require soldering but directions are very abundant and simple. swift is a great company too

    brian

the image of the ECU they display on thier website is a little misleading. it shows a plug in comp. it is easy to install, but someone may be surprised.

  20. Removed and cleaned the throttle body on my 02 gs300 this weekend. Did not mess with the TPS or other sensors. Replaced the unit and took it for a test drive. Did notice the idle speed on initial start up went up to 1900 and came down to just under 1100 after warming up. Never noticed the car doing that before. Drove the car for about 20 minutes with no problems and no check engine light. While driving the car to work this morning, the check engine light came on after about 3 minutes of driving. Is there any connection to my cleaning the throttle body with the light or maybe just a coincidence? Thanks for any insight. <_<

  22. jw? was planning on getting it direct from swiftracing.com. not sure what jw is. on a side note, i found a header for the 02 gs300 at mazzurisuper.com that appears to be constructed well, but no cats installed. i would have to add them in order to pass inspection. that part scares me a little. i would hate to screw up a $900 header. see ya.

You don't have to add Cat's... if you add cats you might as well leave it stock... what you do get is an 02 simulator which pretty much replaces the post cat 02 sensor and relays information back to your ECU as if though you had a functioning cat... you'll pass inspections in most states that just use the OBDII diagnostic port.

i will have to check into the o2 sim. i think texas actually does a exhaust check, not sure though. something else to check into. thanks for the info.

texas does the obdII and the ASM test (exhaust) in the county i live in, so the header is probably not worth pursuing since i drive this vehicle everyday.
