  1. Hi Guys,

I am new here, just want some suggestions if i should get extended warranty?

    For a 2006 gs430, 40000km now,still has factory engine and powertrain warranty,

    the extended warranty go for

    $2580 3 years 30000km

    or

    $2890 3 years 40000km

i just did a vehicle check today and noticed the passanger/rear shocks are leaking.. any idea how much would it cost?

    Thanks

I always buy EW for my new car.

With labor cost these days, especially Lexus, it's worth it.

I bought my EW for my 07GS350 AWD for $1850 from Lexus to cover 7 yrs/100000 miles Platinum level, no deductible.

  2. Well you will need to update this post when you find out. One thing I notice is that the lean changes. I have measured mine in my garage, after driving and over a week or so. The lean varies over 1/2". Either way, the dealership says this is normal.

I bet alot of others probably have the same "issue" but don't notice.

This is a common problem with the Lexus GX470, my old GX used to sag on one side by about 1/2". Some owners complains about 1 side sagging as much 2 inches. The sag does varies from time to time, its almost like it depends on how the suspension settles after you go for a drive. Of course you need to make sure you are on level ground when making the measurement.

I guess after reading this, less than one inch sagging is normal.

Dealership says it's normal. Suspension is tight. No leak.

    What a disappointment for a $50K car.

  4. Am I reading your measurement correctly?? 1.0 mm??? Did you mean 10.0mm?? 1.0 Inch?

I just came back from Lexus with my 06 GS300 with 1.5 cm difference, which is over 1/2 inch left-sided lean and they said this was neglibible.

    Am I missing something?

    I stand corrected. You're right. It's 1.5 cm or almost 3/4 inch.

I can stand 10 feet from the rear and see the rear end tilted on one side.

My in-law has an 2002 ES300 and the rear end levels on both side.

    If it's 0.5 cm, I can say it's negligible. But it's 1.5 cm, I don't think so.

  5. My 07GS350 AWD has 41K miles. Yesterday I noticed the rear end is not leveled. So I did a measurement.

The driver's side wheelwell is about 1mm lower than the passeneger's side.

The tire pressure is the same on two rear tires. It's too early for a shock absorber to go bad.

The front end is completely leveled.

Any GS350 AWDs owners experience the same?

    Could be a leaking shock.

I think so. My in-law had the rear shocks replaced twice for her Camry with 56K miles on the odometer.

Today it's almost 1.5 mm lower.

    Made appt. for Wed.

  7. I have a 2008 GS350 AWD, I had 50,000 miles. My runflats became noisy 2 months, As of today the left rear Driver side tire inside blewout and the inside seams looked as if they were coming apart. The TPMS indicator came on and i was able to drive it a little way.

As i am writing this, i had am having the dealer replace them with NON-Runflats / Michelin MXV4 225 50 V 17's. $220/per tire plus addition cost for aligniment and balancing, im sure labor is going to be high at dealer, they quoted around $1000.00 out the door and gave me a loaner while they ordered tires.

I hope they perform well, if not happy ill have them replace again and or prorate if applicable. by the way i purchased the tire hazard progrm lexus dealer pitched, and i must say not worth the paper its written on, they did nothing as promised. never will do that again anywhere.

You got 50000 miles out of a set of runflats? That is amzaing if that is the case.

The runflats falling apart on the inside is a common problem when it age on the GS, every GS owner should inspect the inside of the OEM run flat as they age. I would have replace the runflat with the Michelin Primicy instead of the MXV4, its a much better tire.

I got 40K miles out of RFT from my 07GS350AWD. The tires still had 5/32 tread left when I replaced them couple months ago with the same RFT. All four tires wore evenly inside & outside. Dealer said I did well on the tires.

Agree Primacy performes on wet & snow better than MXV4. Have them on my Accord. Love them. Primacy has a zero pressure feature. I found out the hardway. One time, on the way to work. Just out of the drive way I heard a flapping noise from the rear. Didn't think it was something serious so continued driving and would check the noise out when I got to work. Got on the highway & drove 65-80 mph on a 16 mile trip. Got to work, walked around the rear & noticed the rear passenger side tire was

completely flat. The sidewall was burnt. The tire was still attached to the rim. I just had the car serviced the day before. So I knew it could be the valve was not closed after the tech checked the tire pressure which caused the air leakage for a full day.

Oh man. I was lucky that the tire didn't come off the rim. That would be a big mess on the highway. Tire hazard insurance paid 1/3 for a new tire.

  8. Hello all. I hope someone on this forum might have some helpful insight for me.

I purchased a new loaded up (sticker price $49K) 2007 GS 350 from my local Lexus Dealership in Oct 2007.

I drove a Honda Accord for 6 years while I saved my money to be able to afford this fancy luxury car (more than I make in a year). I didn't have one ounce of problems with brakes in my Honda, but now I have daily issues with no clear repair answers in my new "luxury" car. Ugh.

In April 2009 I had 12,550 miles on the car and I had experienced several months of consistent/persistent grinding in the brakes.

This grinding is not terribly loud, and does not come with any vibration. If I wanted to cover up the issue by turning the radio up - I could. But that is not an acceptable fix for me. The noise is mainly when I am moving very (somewhat) slow and am softly applying my brakes - for example.... when awaiting my turn behind cars at a stop sign and/or slowly rolling forward.... softly applying the brakes. (As opposed to heavily apply the brakes in a faster situation). It also happens when I am entering my garage and thus slowing rolling forward until I finally / eventually settle fully at the front of the garage. It also happens when I am slowly rolling in reverse and slowly or intermitently applying the brakes for different reasons. (Now - in reverse - I also get high squeeking too).

At 12,550 Miles I took my car in to the dealership to have the brakes looked at. The dealership supposedly turned the rotars, replaced the front brake pads and shims. I don't see any mention of doing anything to the rear brakes.

In June 2009 (Mileage 13,380 I returned to the dealership with the same grinding brake issues. The dealership compared my brake noise with a new GS 350 on their lot and told me that the noise was "normal brake noise" and there was nothing further that could be done.

However, while I was in a Rental car Toyota Camry for 3 months and a Ford Taurus rental car for 2 days in Dec 2009, those vehicle's brakes did not make ANY grinding noises? (Yes... unfortuantely, I had a wreck in my new car and it took 3 months for Lexus Repair shop to fix it! Ugh - my luck really does suck!). So exactly what gives on this brake issue? I am fairly certain I can purchase a Ford Taurus for less than $20K, but I pay nearly $50K and it apparently comes with the added bonus of grinding brakes??

I now have 21,000 miles on my car and I have continued to experience the grinding noises in the brakes on a daily basis. For the last two months an additional squeeling noise has been added in the rear brakes...whenever I am backing up.

I have lost faith in my Lexus dealership (which, by the way, is 40 miles away from where I actually live).

Today I took the car to my local Toyota Dealership. It was raining and they could not duplicate the grinding noises. They suggested that all the moisture in the air perhaps had a hand in concealing the grinding issue - which may be true - and I may need to return on another day when its not raining so that the issue is more likely to be noticable.

When I picked the car up I did get the squeeling noise to occur as I was backing out of the service bay. They told me that cars will sometimes do that as a way of cleaning the brake surface. They also told me that I might do some research of my own on the web to see if I could figure out an answer for myself.

I am not very savy with web searching, but I did not notice anyone else complaining about their GS 350 brake issues on this forum. I wonder if I've just missed the long string of discussions on it, or if I'm "really" the only one to post about it?

    Thanks.

Check your service invoice to see if your dealer serviced your brake noise under

TSB-0040-09 Front Brake Squeal/Squeak In Cold Weather

The (free) service includes new front rotors & pads if your car is still under warranty.

  9. My 2007 GS350 has quite laud tire noise at low speed and unsmooth ride. I thought it was alignment problem and had the shop do the alignment. I was told that the alignment was nearly perfect and the problem was with the tires. All four tires had uneven wear on the inside edge—1/3 of the circumference on the inside edge is completely wear out, whereas the rest of the tire (including other part of the inside edge) has more than half of the tread life remaining. I did a Google search and found that Toyota had a class action settlement for the Dunlop SP Sport 4000 DSST and Bridgestone B380 FRT, both run-flat tire models. I wonder if any GS350 owners have the same tire problem as the one I am having. It is easy to see this problem on the front tires. You can also run your hands around the inner shoulder of the tires. You will find the tread wears significantly more on part of the inner shoulder.

My 07GS350 AWD still has the original RFT with 37K miles on them.

They wear evenly on the inner & outer sides.

The tires are rotated every 5K miles.

  10. :) Thank you so much, I am taking mine back for one more try this week Thursday, will let u know

Also there is a recall for gas pipes that they are doing already. I wonder about the brake pads - do u feel a difference in the braking performance?

Don't bother to bring the car back. The only way to fix the creaking noise is to remove the dashboard & make a repair.

The pad I mentioned before is called shelves liner. The creaking noise hasn't come back since I stuffed the dampener in the gap between the windshield & dashboard.

The location is between the vent hole & a small speaker on each side.

For the brake pads, I don't see any difference in braking performance.

The squealing noise is gone. So is the excessive brake dust. The new shims are used to fix the squealing noise. I asked them to replace the brake pads due to excessive brake dust while

they were going to put on the new shims.

  11. MXRacer, I had the dash rattle as well, the dealer tried 3 times to fix it without success. I heard there is a redesign dash clip that just came out that is suppose to fix the problem. If I were you, I would ask your dealer about it.

I too were very much like you, had quite a few Lexus before my 08 GS. The GS has been by far the most disapointing Lexus I have ever own. It had reliability issue, rattles everywhere, starting issues and squeaky brakes. My last 4 Lexus were close to being perfect, although each newer Lexus I had were not as good as the older one. I personally will not buy another Lexus until they turn things around.

Just had mine in for 5,000 mile service, asked them to fix the windshield creaking, dealer stuffed some foam between dash and windshield. Will see how it works. I have Starfire Pearl paint and am noticing small rust spots, dealer says rail dust, am taking it back to have them buffed out. Anyone else have this problem?

I did it myself for my 07GS350. The foam won't work. It has to be something made of eslatic material.

I think what happens the entire dash board is shaking when the car runs over a bump. They have a loose dashboard. When the dashboard shakes, it rubs agaisnt the windshield and causes the

creaking noise. I used the vibration dampener made of eslatic material. And it works. The foam still makes creaking noise when the dashboard rubs against it.

Don't do the TSB for this problem. It won't resolve the noise.

Got 9LA 9LB, squealing brake noise (Lexus uses different shim for the pads), and TSB for too much brake dust services in one day.

The dealer filled the gas tank for 9LA service.

Charlie, I have the same problem, dealer tried 5 times already - no fix so far. Where do you get this vibration dampener made of eslatic material? Does the dealer have it? Thanks

I got the vibration dampener from where I work. I think the rubber pads people use to put on the closet shelves might work too. But the closet pad's thickness is only half what I used. So you may have to fold

it. My wife bought the closet pads from the Target or Walmart.

Sticking anything in between the dashboard and the windshield to stop the creaking noise is just a temporary fix. All you are doing is stretching out those plastic clips, the noise will come back sooner or later. Thats fix is fine if you dont plan to keep your car for long.

It has been 3 months since I placed the eslactic vibration damper between the dashboard & windshield. So far no more creaking noise.

  13. Thanks...great point. I looked up Toby Rivers from one of the posts on this topic and sent him a message. Any other resources would be appreciated.

    RR.

Try Troy from Toyota of Greenfield (MA). His full name is Troy Dietrich. He's at 413-772-0231. He has been the cheapest source for Lexus warranty I have found so far. I bought a 7 year 100000 Lexus platnium warranty from him for $1700, the dealer wanted $2600.

Got EW 7yrs/100K Lexus Platinum $0 deductible 2 yrs ago for my 07GS350 for $1800 from dealer after showing them the on-line quote from one of the Lexus dealers.

They initiallyl wanted $2500 for it.

  15. Ok...Last two day..my GS430 showed a status of "Low Tire", I was trying to check by myself and found out that..air was leaking slowly on the front right wheel...noticed a broken stem valve...I called Lexus and they said that metal valve has a sensor in it..so it costs about 200-250 bucks to replace it...any suggestion guys?

I don't want to spend that much on the valve..seriously...driving a luxury car..doesn't mean I got a lot of money like that.. :(

Wouldn't it be covered by the basic warranty?

  16. Its a bug they have fixed in the 07 models.

Some of the 07s still have this problem. My 007GS350 serial number is included in the affected vehicles.

The car hasn't shown any leak yet.

But one thing bothers me. I used the A/C for about one hour until I got home today.

After the car was parked for an hour, I didn't see any water puddle on the ground.

  17. I have the same problem with my 06 GS300 right now. Have you fixed the water leaks? What was the cause of water leak? I'm not sure if this is the common problem for GS model?
    :censored:

I am freaking out. I have a 2006 GS 300 that is now over the 50k mile mark, so its out of warranty. I have owned it the whole time. I recently found a big time water leak on the interior of my car only on the passanger side. Its leaking so bad that I had to strip the car apart inside. I had to rip out the seats, console, and carpet.

Its a clear liquid. I believe its coming from the AC, because the longer the AC is on the worse the leak. Its only on the passenger side.

Does anyone have ideas, similar problems, recomendations as to why and how to fix it???

There is an TSB (AC003R-07) regarding this water leak.

The affected vehicles: all GS300, some 07GS's and IS's.

    Caused: HVAC evaporator drain blocked.
