  1. I bought my fully loaded LS430 at an auction (30 grand for 29,500 miles). I loved the car but for an annoying whistling sound above 60 mph. I figured it's got to be the windshield. Since the car was still under Lexus warranty I took it to the dealer. The dealer agreed that there was indeed a noise coming from the windshield but they cannot fix under warranty as it was not an original part. Apparently the previous owner had already changed it for whatever reason. Dealer quoted about $1,600 to change the windshield to take care of the problem. Instead I got it changed for $450 through another autoglass guy on-location at home. The noise is gone :-) Apparently it was bad sealing job of the previous windshield replacement; the autoglass guy would not warranty fixing it by resealing and was costing more should the fixing job failed. But he guaranteed that the problem will go away with a new windshield., so went for it.
  2. You are in the wrong forum. However I do think it is a premature failure. For my 91 LS400, had to change the O2 sensor at 120k. The first change occured at 60K. It almost looked like it was programmed for CEL to come on at 60K intervals.
  3. Thank you for your input. I used to drive a 91 LS, which was not as quiet, probably due to age. Wind noise here is quite different. It is amost like the noise is switched on the moment the Lexus hits 45mph. Even casual riders have noticed it and other better informed have gone 'Whoa! what's that!'. The noise is so pronounced, it is hard to miss. Thanks again, appreciate your input.
  4. Hi proud owners of LS series - I recently purchased a LS430. The car runs great until it hits 45 mph. For any speeds over 45 miles, the wind noise is terrible and only increases with speed :( . Appreciate any input as to why this may be happening. There is no apparent damage to the moon roof, side rear view mirrors or windshield. The car is still under original warranty, so would the dealers be warranted to take care of it? BTW, I replaced worn Dunlops with Bridgestone Turanzas, the ride is better, but nothing else changed. Truly appreciate your input.
  5. Your owners manual will direct you on what to do to reset it. How about just telling us? Many are used car buyers that dont have the manual in front of us or have it anywhere for that matter. Answers like this are frustrating! With all due respect, I wouldn't own ANY vehicle without a owners manual - period. With all due respect, there may be hundreds of reasons why a manual may not be available and why folks own cars without them. Not having the manual is NOT the point here and these discussion fora are one avenue for those who need help. Help them if you can, but please do not pontificate. Anyone else please with an answer?
  6. Larry, You were absolutely right with your diagnosis. It was the battery. I replaced the battery and the Lexi starts up great. Thanks a lot....
  7. Hi all - I am new to this forum. And I find the helpful participation of members very supportive. Recently my 91 LS400 (138k miles) stopped starting. I do not use this car a whole lot but I start it up once a week and take it for a quick spin. Two weeks ago there was a lot of loud clicking as it turned over. Last week, it is just a click and then nothing. I tried jump starting suspecting the battery, but that did not do anything either. The cables were pretty hot, after drawing a lot of current. Can anyone please tell me if it the famous Gen 1's starter problem? I appreciate the Lexus a lot. But I was ready to sell it after it started giving the problem. Now, after I started visiting this forum, I believe this is a car to keep. But I need to get it to work first -_- Can anyone suggest a good, reliable independent mechanic in Atlanta area? Or would you suggest that this problem be fixed at the dealerships? Sure do appreciate your feedback - Thanks in advance.
