  1. Thanks for this. I have no idea as to the type of light involved, the car is the RX Coach Edition.

I was only interested in obtaining the polymer cover of the headlight assembly (if that is the right word), the lights work fine. The plastic cover is what has clouded over.

  2. Gave our RX300 to our son who lives in the desert of Arizona after having the lens cover cleaned at the local dealer. It looked great after the treatment.

Saw the can this last weekend and it is all clouded over again. My wife is concerned that the light is substandard and dangerous. Called the parts department of the dealer and asked for a price for replacements. I did not think it would be inexpensive nor did I think it would be $400+ for each side - driver and passenger.

After the paramedics left I thought how best to solve the situation so, naturally, I turned to Google. The first item was Amazon. A little more browsing and replacing the entire unit is only $80ish for each side and includes the polymer lens cover.

It's clear Toyota has no interest in selling the replacement polymer and I understand why they would not but, the price difference is laughable. I never found out the cost of replacing the entire unit from the dealer but, I'm certain it will not be anywhere near $80. I'm old school, I regard a dollar of revenue a dollar of revenue as long as it only costs $.60 or $.80 to make the item to sell and distribute the item for sale.

Undoubtly, the vehicle is still safe to drive but, the clouding is unsightly. What have you done, if anything to solve this issue?

    Thanks.

  3. Bought new a 2012 450h last year, have driven normally in the 12 month time period with mileage in the low 20s v. the estimated 30 on the sticker for city driving. Most of us know there will be disparity between what is on the sticker and "real world" mileage but, 8 miles difference is a bit larger than one can reasonably expect. The government is supposed to be monitoring and checking these estimates now so I was confident of a more accurate reading.

It has been mostly city driving with two longer trips.

I contacted Lexus to express my disatisfaction and they responded with what I will term "customer service BS" much to my surprise. I told them in my response to add our name to a list of those owners serverly displeased as this moves along as I am confident there are many others similairly unhappy.

This is our 12th Lexus and I have always been pleased with the vehicles and the service and I have to consider this experience an anomoly. If are also displeased with this vehicle and it's mileage let's join up here and put some pressure on Lexus to resolve the matter.

    Suggestions.

  4. We are considering the purchase of a 2012 RX hybrid. I see the mpg is overestimated based on the comments so I will not expect 28 (especially with my wife driving - she does wheelies in reverse out of the garage).

Generally, I have found most of the comments positive unless the negatives are buried elsewhere.

Are there other service costs that occur we should be aware of before signing the papers?

In short, stop us if we are about to do something not too bright.

    Many thanks.

  5. Are there any surprises if I were to tow a 2002 RX 2002 on a dolly with the front wheels elevated behind a truck?

The RX is two wheel drive, however, once underway modifications may be challenging, anyone have any experience - good or bad?

    Thanks.

  6. Was surprised to learn that Lexus factory tires are likely to develop problems in the 20k - 25k range particularly if most of the driving is city traffic.

I have an 07 GS350 with only 24k and the ride was very mushy after they did the engine factory recall. When I took it back to the dealer, they said it was the tires. Same tires as before the engine work per recall so I went to the tire dealer and asked for wheel balancing and, sure enough, their recommendation was also replace the tires. There was plenty of tread left even to my unsophiscated eye but, the tire dealer insisted they were at fault for what I was experiencing. Bought new tires and the ride improved to better than that previously.

The dealer said that manufacturers supply marginal tires with new cars to save money.

    Just sharing experience.

  7. My '07 GS350 was one of those subject to the most recent recall, this one for replacement of the "engine springs" which was done late last week. Every since I can hear the engine and/or transmission, has anyone else had this problem? I bought the car new and it only has 22k or so on the odometer, tires are the ones that came with the car. This is my umpteenth Lexus and I can't recall being able to hear the engine and/or transmission, perhaps I'm delusional.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

  8. I've had good luck with similar challenges on eBay, particularly if you are not in a hurry.

Does anyone know where I may be able to get replacement glass for a 2006 GS300 passenger side rear-view mirror at a reasonable price? Wife hit the mailbox while backing out of the driveway and now the bottom of the mirror housing is scratched up and the glass is broken. I figure I'll touch-up paint the housing, but need to replace the glass.

I checked online and found a product called Burco Redi Cuts. However, it seems as if you just stick the replacement glass on top of the broken glass, which doesn't sound like a great idea. Also, they say that doing this will keep the heated glass properties, but I'll lose the auto dimming.

I'd like to find a better solution that lets me keep the heated mirror and the auto dimming. Any suggestions?

  9. Hi -

I'm also a hater of ashtrays and found a replacement at www.l-tunedparts.com, however it is not inexpensive - $200. It does give me a place to put my glasses, phone etc. which is wonderful. Manufacturers should offer w/astray and sans ashtray models, in my view.

There is no access to the lighter with this solution.

    Good luck.

  10. Yes, Park Place Lexus in Plano. How are you aware of them as you are in Cali?

Anyway, I don't know if they repainted the hood or not. They definitely repainted the bumper. One guy said they were going to "color sand" (not sure if that was the exact term - but something like it) the entire car though since it had so many small scratches. What is this process if you know?

I don't want to accuse them of something if I don't know for sure...but in my heart I believe they did do it.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Hi again -

It is going to be challenging to resolve this if you "want to know for sure" since my theory could be incorrect (possible but, unlikely).

Speak to the individual you have been working with (Service Advisor) and insist the pits were not there when you brought them the car. Ask him/her how this could have occurred when it was in their custody? Then, no matter what, say nothing - let the silence pressure him/her to fill in the silence. If you don't like his/her answer tell him/her so. Continue to discuss it as a rational person then, ask to speak to the Service Manager and go thru the steps again.

Express your disappointment if they do not agree with your contention.

Go home and phone the GM and leave a message that you are unhappy and the MB Award is at risk should you be contacted.

    Again, good luck!

Long story but will try to keep it brief. Bought Certified GS and upon delivery noted many, many scratches and blemishes particularly on the hood. Asked them to take care of them. So, brought it in for several days. In addition to this they had to repaint the bumper because the clearcoat was peeling like a bad sunburn.

Anyway, when I get it back, my windshield is pitted with thousands of minute particles. I can't swear they were not there when I bought it as I had only had it a week but I think I would have noticed this. My theory, something happened while it was undergoing this work that caused it. However, I'm a white collar female and don't have any clue about any process that would have been attempted.

Could you guys who are so knowledgeable about these things, pose a theory?

And, what would YOU do about it if it was you?

    Thanks kindly in advance,

    Carolyn

    Hi Carolyn -

    You are not crazy!

It sounds as if they repainted the hood (assuming it is acceptable now) and to prep it for painting they took off all the paint while FAILING to mask the windshield. Are there pits on the front of the side windows as well? Just a few, not to many.

I would definitly accuse them of this, if you feel this is a liklely scenario.

Are you dealing with Park Place Lexus? They have a huge comittment to customer satisfaction and I am confident they will go out of their way to make good on the problem. They worked hard to win the Malcolm Baldridge Award which is extremely challenging for a car dealership to win.

    Best of luck!

  12. I am not a fan of Armorall so I wonder what if anything, people are treating the dashboard surface with. Mine looks like it could use something but don want to make a mistake. I do not want a shinny dashboard. Anything from Zaino that would work well???

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Keith -

I stay away from Armorall as well, I recall reading a report that it actually harmed surfaces plus, it is more intended for vinyl. I would encourage the use of a leather cleaner and prep product - Mothers and McQuires (sp) are top choices in that area.

    Best of luck.

  13. so... I've driven the GS 350 AWD, and I love it.

BUT... I have some concerns about its reliability. Consumer Reports ratings are less than stellar, and I find that rather concerning. I'm current Lexus owner, and I've had NO problems, and quite frankly I'm surprised to see a new Lexus getting hammered so badly....

Any thoughts from the real world?

    Thanks,

    Mark

All I can say is that I have had zero trouble with mine. THis is about my seventh or eight Lexus and the quality is impressive though not infalliable. For example, my mirror would go down for reverse and not return to the up position when shift to drive. Of course, the dealer made it good.

I tried MB but, the ride is stiffer and, for me, not as pleasureable. BMW same.

Whatever car one buys, is not perfect. Just enjoy what you have - since there is little choice for a couple of years unless one is rich.

    Best of luck,

    Dave

  15. I am very new owner of 2006 GS 300 and surprisingly I have found that there is no possibility to store numbers in the phone book in other way than transferring it from a cellular phone. The transferring itself is also very problematic. Sony Ericson K700i simply locks up during operation and RAZR V3 can only transfer one number at a time. Playing with Log after dialing a number and storing it in One Touch is also annoying. Is there any civilized way to store the numbers in the car phone book?

Phone Lexus Customer Service and they will send an instruction sheet, however, it may not work with your phone.

    good luck.

  16. Does anyone know of an affordable way to convert the GS350 ashtray and lighter to a storage compartment? The conversion kit available from the Lextasy website is a bit pricey at $320…

Thanks in advance to anyone who has suggestions.

Affordable? Probably not but, you might Google L-tuned Lexus, I'm sure they offer one and for a lot less than $320.

    Good luck

  17. Does anyone have experience with a grill from Billet America? They sell a 304 Gauge Stainless Steel Chrome Plated grill guaranteed not chip, rust, bend or tarnish - basically to last a lifetime.

They contend is a simple installation. The grill bolts over the existing grill without any cutting or prior fitting.

I am specifically concerned if the install is as easy as they contend and the permanancy of such an install. Please let me know your thoughts before I purchase.

    Thanks in advance.

  18. Purchased a 2007 GS 350 (no need to purchase any other GS since they all have roughly the same hp), anyway the instructions on programming the phone directory is not available. One would think it would be self guided - except it is not! One can't really transfer from one's cell phone directly (yes, one number at a time). However, that is not my issue - I can't get it to take speed dial numbers and names for example. Further, posting numbers to groups seems sketchy.

It seems as if Lexus, who thinks of everything, may have omitted these instructions from the pack. I called the dealer and the salesperson will program it if I bring it by, that is a one-time thing, I am looking for information a bit more permanent.

Can anyone furnish the directions for setting up the phone directory?

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave
