  1. Thanks for all the advices. I actually brought my car into a Lexus dealershop (for another service also), before doing further research. They recommended changing the A/C filter just like Gary wrote. They would charge $98 for that. And that was a message they left on my voice mailbox. After looking through the Users Manual, I found out how easy it was to replace that filter. But Lexus dealership already went ahead and replaced the A/C filter without my acknowledgment. When I picked up the car, they agreed to drop it down to $50 which they claimed the cost of the part. Anyway, replacing the A/C filter didn't seem to fix the problem. Well, it was very cold here, so i turned on the A/C really briefly. So perhaps it was the remain of the bad smell from the old filter. I hope so. I'll try it out again. If it still smells bad, I'll try what 93LSOwner suggested. Thanks again everyone.
  2. It's on my 2003 SC430. Every time I turn A/C or heat on, the odor blown out of the vent is sooooo bad that I don't think anyone can tolerate it. Does anyone here have similar problem? How do you fix it?
  3. Tom, thanks for your response. I called the lexus dealer where the car was originally bought from. It costs $215. Wow, that's expensive for an oil change and other little things like tire rotation and checking fluids.
  4. Hello Everyone, I'm new to this forum, and I am also a new lexus owner. Just recently bought a 2003 SC430 from a private seller. However I forgot to ask the previous owner about oil change and scheduled maintenance services, whether they are covered under warranty (while the car is still under manufacturer's warranty), or not. When I bought a brand new BMW before, all services (including oil changes) were free in the first 4 years / 50k miles. This is my first lexus, and I am not familiar with lexus dealer services. The car has 23K miles, and I'm thinking about bringing it in for 22,500/25,000 miles service. Is this service provided free of charge by the dealer? If not, is it expensive? Should I always have my car serviced at a lexus dealer? Would an independent shop do an equipvalent job (such as oil change) at a much less expensive cost? Thanks for your response.
