I have the exact same problem in my 92 ls400, but coolant level has been same for 6 months with no leak, has to be some kind of sensor. Just replaced water pump, timing belt, thermostat, and coolant flush. Light still comes on.

Thanks for the info lscott, i'll start with this

not getting power to the ignition coil. checked all fuses, recently replaced timing belt. Drove 250 miles one night and ran perfect. Got up the next morning and now nothing. I need to know what i need to start checking first.
