  1. I need advice on replacing brakes on 2006 is250. It has 70k mi. and the dealer replaceed the pads under warranty at 40k mi. Original rotors have developed lips, and will need to be replaced with the current pads. Should I use oem rotors and pads ( which factory pads are low dust and don't squeal) or swap them with aftermarket high performance pads and rotors. Does anyone have advice on one or both of these options.

  2. Any suggestions as to the problem and fix? The gas cap is tight.

I had this warning light come on after I had the valve springs replaced on my IS350 with the factory recall. Engine started shutting down and running very poorly. Took it back to the dealer and I was told that a module had come loose that the mechanic had not put on correctly. It was a quick fix and no further problems.

    Thanks, tsantoro

  3. I bought a set of the the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires today and am certain I made the right choice as they are much better than the RE92's I replaced. They handle much better and ride better too. They are also quieter at normal driving speeds, but are slightly noisier above 65 mph. The small increase in noise is more than offset by the improvements in driving feel, handling and smoother ride. I highly recommend them for the is 250 awd.

  4. Just heard from the dealer. Transmission fluid is slightly "contaminated". The plan is to power flush and replace. I will upadte when it is completed. The news is not very encouraging.

From what I've read, this transmission does not have a drain plug or a fill tube and the fluid was not meant to be changed. If you truly do have "contaminated" fluid and the vehicle is still under warranty, this dealer should perform this service free of charge.

  5. Actually, yes..... go to your phone book and look up a glass/mirror mfgr in your area. The ones that can do custom size glass and mirrors for your home. They have a pink powder stuff that you mix in with water to make a glass polishing paste. They use it for pilshing the edges and for removing scratches on mirrors and glass all the time. (It's better than just throwing scratched glass away all the time.) Then you apply it with a polishing wheel on your drill. Be careful though, that stuff can be aggressive. Just keep the pressure light and stay patient. I've fixed some glass scratches before with great results.
Great suggestion Smooth. I'm in the process of pursuing it. I'll keep you apprised.
  6. I have 31k on my 2006 IS 250 and my rotors and pads are nowhere near needing replacement. Hard driving will wear down pads and rotors more quickly, but 30k seems too early. Take your IS350 to a reliable independent shop with ASE certified technicians and see what they say. Keep us apprised.

  7. Ordered an IS250 AWD - Smoky Granite Mica

My sister works for Toyota and gets an employee discount for family members.

Seems cheaper but wanted to get an opinion on how much i saved.

    Here are options/accessories:

-High Intensity Headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System

-Navigation System Includes: Voice Activated DVD Navigation System w/Rear Camera, and Bluetooth (NO Mark Levinson upgrade)

-Premium Package Includes: Heated and Ventilated Front Seats, Wood Interior Trim, and Perforated Leather Seat Upgrade

    -Interface Kit for iPOD

    -All Weather Mats

-Wheel Locks, Rear Bumper Applique, Cargo Net, Trunk Mat, (Included - No Charge)

    Sub Total : $33,287.00

    Tax 6% : $1997.22

    TOTAL : $35,284.22

Opions on whether the all-in paid price of $35,284 was a decent price.

    Thx

    A great price!

  8. What is the hardness of the clearcoat on my Matador Mica Red 06 IS 250? Is it considered to be a harder or softer paint? I know for certain it is not as hard as my wife's 04 Nissan Murano or the newer model Mercedes Benzes with their Ceramiclear finishes. Knowing will help me choose the best polish or compound to remove scratches and swirl marks from this winter's abuse.

Lexus is butter compared to MB, porche etc. How does winter cause swirls???

Spider-webbing and fine scratches would be more accurate.

  10. It's the flanges at the front and rear couplings of the drive shaft. My Lexus service people tell me that they've never found any that actually needed to be torqued.

Many thanks Bartkat, as usual you advice is well worth reading. If anyone else would possibly know the actual torque recommendation, I would appreciate knowing what it is for future reference.

  11. Would the brake dust TSB solve the sensitivity of the brakes?

I don't think it solves but just improves it.

I had the factory original pads changed per the TSIB at 15k mi. on my '06 IS250 awd and there are two differences: 1) brake dust is less but not a significant amount (worth it though); 2) Brake feel is very slightly different as in less initial "bite". Unless you are going to drive it hard and brake it hard, you may find it easier to brake smoothly (again, worth the trouble). I waited and tolerated the brake dust issue until 15k to extend the time when I would have to replace them at my expense.

I've two questions and would appreciate very much your honest answer:

1- Is this tick/rattle noise of the IS250/350 solvable?

2- Is not this car overpriced.

    Thank you.

My '06 IS250 AWD continues to emanate dash rattles and sounds even after the supposed dealer fix (TSIB) mentioned earlier in this thread. How disappointing and embarassing for a $35k+ auto from a manufacturer whose reputation for quality is so highly touted. Lexus needs to genuinely address this problem and then recall the affected models if they truly care about the satisfaction of their customers. This and other niggling issues detract from an otherwise fine car, which in turn begs the question, is this car overpriced? It is if it does not meet the expectations of its owners. Would I buy this vehicle again knowing what I know now after 18 months of ownership? Maybe not.
