  1. YESSS!!!! I think my dealer finally solved all my thump/brake problems! (for now)

What did they do differntly then the prev times that fixed it this time?

that, i truthfully have to say, i don't know! ;) but the tech who did it finally used their knwoledge they learned at Lexus school and finally applied it to my GX!

Please shed some light on this. What does your repair reciept say??

    Thanks in advance.

  2. My husband and I just picked up our new GX this weekend.  The DVD was "included" in our "deal".  We soon realized when we got home that the DVD is not the Factory Installed one, but it is an AudioVox.  Did this happen to anyone else?

Out here in the Bay Area, there is a TV Action Line for consumer protection. Maybe you have the equivalent out there. No business wants to end up being talked about on the TV news.

What exactly does "included" and "deal" mean. If you didn't pay for the factory installed DVD rear entertainment option and it's not listed on the window sticker as an option, what was the agreement with the dealership?

To tell you the truth it is possible that the audiovox integrates into the system better than the factory one. Can you actually turn on the DVD without breaking your back from the front seat?? <_<

  3. I just got my truck back.  My wife drove it back from the dealer and said she didn't feel the thump and that the air conditioning seems a lot colder.  I have not actually driven it yet but it seems that the TSB's has corrected the problem.

My advise to those who are having a problem with their dealer is to call Lexus Corp. and complain!!

geewiss, did u have ur a/c fixed? oh btw, nice 2 c u here too bro!

I took my truck in for the TSB on the air conditioning. They first tried to talk me out of getting it fixed because they said it is an 8 hour fix and they wanted to be absolutley sure that I was having a problem first. I told them to fix it and the driveshaft while they were at it. They did and now it seems alot cooler.

  4. It also has to do with season. In winter they oxygenate the gas differently and it creates more excess sulfer. As summer approaches it wont be a big deal, the smell will go away.

Do you have Sunoco? Sunoco is supposed to be a low sulfer gas also...

I beg to differ. Lexus has put out a TSB on the sulfer smell and I just had it performed on mine. Seems that the gas theory was just to buy time.

  6. Ok, I have been calling my local Lexus dealer (Lexus of Annapolis) and it seems that I have been getting the run around about getting my driveshaft replaced. About 4 months ago he said they should have the driveshaft in a few weeks. Well, every time I call I get another story. Today the story was that the manufacturer has 640 on back order nationwide and that they are only shipping out 80 at a time. But of course I am the first on the list, YEAH YEAH YEAH!!

Anyone else have these sort of problems? Please provide any advice.

    Unhappy Lexus GX470 owner.

  7. GX 470 Technical Service Bulletins.

What does it mean that a TSB has been issued. Does that mean they recognize the problem and they have a fix??

Yes it usually does. The dealer should be able to reference the TSB number and get the info on the recommended fix. Lexus issues the bulletins to all dealers, so they should be able to look them up.

There also may be other TSB's since that site was updated.

As an example there was a TSB on 2001 and early 2002 IS300's that pertained to a sluggish auto transmision shifit ing problem. The fix was a reflash of the ECU to an improved program. When mine was done they actually put a sticker on the underside of the hood with the TSB number and the date that it was done and the dealer who had done it.

Lexus seems to be pretty good at documenting the problems and the fixes.

So if I have any of the problems listed in the TSB's, I should be able to go to Lexus and they should know the fix without any problems? Should I quote the TSB or something?

Thanks for the info, but it is terrible that the customer has to tell the dealer about the TSB....at least my opinion.

  8. I have a 2003 GX. I have 6k miles on it. It has been in the shop 5 time so far. This is NOT acceptable for a Lexus, at least that is my opinion. The thump in the rear end is NOT a minor thing. Your GX must not have developed the thump yet. Once you do report back and say it is Minor. I think you will change your opinion very quickly

  9. I am getting ready to take mine in for the second time for the thump. So I just keep the paperwork for the past time and this time and if that happens two more times then I just get a lawyer and I am set?

I would really like to unload this GX.

Thanks again for your time and your info.

  10. Before I matured and made some money to buy a vehicle like the GX I used to play with stereos in all my other cars. My favorite to play with was MBQuart, PPI, and JLAudio equipment. Of course when you buy after market equipment like listed, your listening experience should be more enjoyable. BUT in the GX the Levinson system is very close to the aftermarket equipment I used the play with. Besides no cutting up the vehicle to install this stuff.

  11. Would the driveshaft problem count toward the lemon law?

When you did turn your other vehicles in, what exactly happend? Did you get all of your money back or did they just give you what you owe on it?

    Thanks for the info...

  12. I have 6k miles on my GX. I noticed the thump in the rear about 2500 miles and brought it in. They fixed it by lubing the driveshaft etc. but the thump is back. My question is.....

If I take it in again and they do the same fix and then it happens again could this be turned in for the lemon law??

    Thanks for any information...

  13. ok take the truck to your dealer and tell them to do the following...(the should know what to do without this but who knows)

    1.) separate the rear driveshaft

2.) clean the splines on the driveshaft with brake cleaner

3.) put valve lapping compound on the splines of the shaft

4.) rapidly slide the two halves of the shaft together and apart several times till you see a patern form in the lapping compound

5.) thoroughly clean both sides of the drive shaft splines and use GM i temp grease on the splines

6.) repeat step 4 till the two halves slide nicely together

    7.) reinstall driveshaft

Lexus will not admit this fix to the public (yet)...don't ask me why.

Ok, I took mine to the dealer for the kick and they did what you mentioned about lubing the driveshaft. It corrected the problem for the last 1500 miles but the kick has started back up again. I am really getting frusterated with this lexus. It is my first and will more than likely be the last. I am getting ready to take it to CARMAX to see how much I will lose on a trade in....
