  1. grnsc40095, thanks. I'm taking it to a new mechanic on monday and i'll let him know the info. Hoping he will get it right and get it painted as well.
  2. I recently swapped doors on the passenger side due to a collision. I used the door off a 92 SC. The door read closed before the door swap. After it read open. All the door wiring was changed out for the old one as well as the door locks. It still reads constant open to the point that the battery cable has to be removed so as not to drain the battery. My body man is at a loss. The door is hard to shut and I fear that he missed a frame issue. My question is would the frame issue cause the door to read open? The door will lock and unlock and the windows work. Is there a part that tells the computer the door is shut that he is missing? I have searched the forums and can't find anything related.
  3. I think I have a malfunctioning door switch. Could someone give me a visual of where it is and what it looks like.
  4. I had to get a new used door put on the passenger side due to a recent accident. I used one off a 92 SC. The car was reading the door closed on the old door, now with the new one installed it reads constantly open. Everything else, locks and windows work. What am I missing. Can you not switch doors from a different year?
  5. I'm looking to have my baby totally repainted. I was recently hit and have decided to have the car rebuilt. I thought this would be the best time to have all little imperfections corrected and have her totally repainted. Same color of course. What i'm looking for is recommendations for the best place in Ky to get her repainted. I would prefer south central KY or Tn in the Nashville area. Thanks for all your help. One other thing, I replaced the passenger door with another off a 92 and it had plastic on the left side of the window by the door. In my 95 I have only metal, is there metal under the plastic, should I take it off and look? I didn't notice the diffrence until the new door was installed. My body guy is not wanting to change the locks, said it would take him 2 days. Is it really that hard? Is there a tutorial on here? Once again thanks for all the help.
  6. Thanks everyone, the insurance is going to total her out. I have decided to buy her back and rebuild her.
  7. Nope, I own one as well. From what i've read here and that's not much, it's due to the color of the body and the interior combo. Mine is Baltic Blue Metallic with ivory interior. Read that there was only 500 worldwide. Hope that helps
  8. I have a 95 SC 400 limited edition and the insurance company is trying to total her out. To add insult to injury they only wanna give me $6000 to replace her. I think she is worth more, can't find one in Bowling Green, KY at any price. Can anyone tell me ads they may have seen so I can show them the value is higher?
  9. I assume you can't see the leak. You might check the plastic coolant reservoir in the front of engine compartment. There is a level sensor which screws into it and sometimes cases a crack in the reservoir. Put a little soapy water on it and look for bubbles. Just an idea. I'll have to try that. The mechanic said it was definitely the radiator based on where it was wet. Personally I couldn't feel anything. Ditto, I assume you see coolant on the ground but can't pinpoint the source...if so, consider checking the radiator cap. As the engine warms up and pressure builds a bad cap seal or a weak cap spring can allow coolant to get past and out the radiator overflow tube. And I'm thinking the "smoke" you refer to is actually steam since the engine isn't running hot. It is possible for a headgasket to blow through the waterjacket and to the outside of the engine - a situation that can cause coolant in the waterjacket to be blown out onto the exhaust manifold causing steam. Need to find the actual point source for the steam. I believe it to be smoke due to the fact that when it started doing smoking it was fairly warm 50's outside and I had never seen it before at that temp from under the hood and seems to disapate more like smoke. Forgive my ignorance here, do you mean the reservoir cap or the bolt where the upper radiator hose connects?
  10. I have a 95 SC 400, had her for 3 years and had timing belt, water pump and 90,000 mile checkup and replacements done. She now has 134,000 miles and a problem. She's leaking coolant somewhere. When I start the car everything is fine, about the time the temp gauge reaches midway the heat comes on if there is enough antifreeze in the system. That's when white smoke starts coming out from under the hood. The car never overheats or even gets past the midpoint in the temp gauge. I have replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses hoping that it was a dry rot problem.......it wasn't. I took it to a mechanic that usually works on her and was told it was the radiator and $500 to fix it. After reading some posts here I'm not quite convinced. The mechanic has in the past charged me $50 for a $2 piece of plastic. Feel like I need a second opinion, any help?
  11. thanks, I'm gonna help my dad do it this weekend. Anyone got any idea which brake pads from Autozone are the best?
  12. I have a 95 SC400 and have recently started experiencing something that might be a brake issue. A grinding noise is coming from the rear tires when the brakes are applied. It doesn't happen all the time, usually I have to be driving the car for 20-30 minutes before it starts, sometimes it starts up immediately. I haven't had the rear brakes replaced since I bought the car in November 2005. There are no indicator lights on to help with this problem. I now live in the Nashville area if anyone knows a reputable shop in the area that would be great. Thanks for all the help
  13. I have a 1995 SC400 and she is a great car. I recently went through a snow and ice storm (that's Indiana for ya) and the wipers got stuck going down and stayed there for several days as it wasn't safe to drive her. Now my windshield washer motor has started to make a clicking sort of grinding noise when the wipers are turned on and running. While the wipers aren't in motion the noise stops and on the intermittent setting a popping happens when the wipers come to rest. Just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas or if it's as bad as I thought and I need a new wiper motor. If I do, does anyone know the best place to get one from?
