  1. LMAO Well Iam glad that Iam not alone out there :P

First post I've seen going to two pages in one day, since I started reading a couple of months ago. I'm like Josh - my name is "Mud" and I've scratched my right front chrome rim once, and the left one twice! All in the first couple of weeks - once in a right hand end parking space, once in an ATM lane, and once trying to get close to a mailbox while turning to the right toward it. It's no excuse, but I used to drive a Solara, and I could actually SEE the front of the ****ing car, and tell exactly where the wheels were, but on the IS, all there is is a windshield, a little bit of hood, and then nothing! So, to remedy that situation, I had to HIT something with them to see where they put them. Found both of 'em! :chairshot:

  2. So i find a dealer today that mis quotes me on an IS250, 2007, Nav, Premium, 18s, and HIDS, for 1200 off the car. They have not even hit the dealers yet. Their mistake, either way they realize and offer to honor it. I currently have the same car coming without the HIDs and in a manual. I originally wanted the manual and they couldnt get the HIDs added before the car went into production. My original car was 34,745. The one I am gonna get now is 36,700. Granted the HIDs and Auto tranny. I am excited. I wanted the manual but heard that it was not very impressive at all, plus my girl can drive the auto, and i will have an easier time selling in the future. My Original Lexus dealer was not happy.

I just told them, I have to wait at least another month for a car that may or may not have HIDs on it. The manual i never got to test drive i have read nothing but non impressive reviews.

The car in Dallas IS going to have the HIDs and it will be here in less than two weeks.

I feel really bad backing out after. But at least the manual IS they have is an 07 rather than a end of year 06. Hey I figure it is my 35k i am spending. So they lose a grand or two at worse. IF THAT. I live with the car for 6 years with regret.

What do you guys think. I also hear i can get my deposit back. I didnt sign a non refundable deposit form. Just a special order request form.

thanks guys. I am excited.

Why do you say they "misquoted" the price? 1200 off the sticker is not that much; I got 1800 off (a bigger) sticker on my 350 in Fort Worth. Yeah, it was a 2006, but I'll bet anyone will sell you a car for 1200 off sticker, even on a 2007 - on the lot, or arriveing soon. Not that it's a bad deal for you, or anything like that, but the dealer's going to pretend it's better than it really is, to make you happier with it. Just my opinion, though!

Also, the other dealer probably won't lose anything on the car you don't buy. NEVER feel sorry for a dealer; they make tons of money. So, what color are you getting?

  3. awww You might look on Lexus web site... I remember seeing a Detail mapping overlay that shows what sections have the detail mapping....

Guess thats one perk about being up here in the Northeast... seems like every street and even dirt roads are mapped... If I lived back home in Oklahoma/Texas I might be cussing her out some.. ;)

Yes, you are correct. I remember seeing that, too. So, I found it again. It's in the Nav tutorial, which you get to via the popup screen after clicking on a 'feature' (like the nav system). In the tutorial, under "How to" "change the covered area", it shows you can click 'Menu', 'DVD', 'covered area', and then scroll thru all 11 area maps, which show that Massachusetts is TOTALLY covered, but Texas has only 9 main areas which have detailed info (maybe 10% of the state). That probably means buildings, and phone numbers, etc., because it does have streets in small towns in it. I put my son's address in "my places", and it's in Whitefish, Montana (which needless to say, has no 'details'). It showed the right street, but was off by .3 mile on the location. So, areas like that, and where I live, must just use the main roads for routes. I guess the difference is the couple hundred bucks I paid for the MapSource program, and North American City Select maps for my Garmin. I still like the Lexus system, though, for all the fancy stuff. On short routes where I can see streets on the map that are not "on" the route, I can take them anyway, and on long routes, it won't make much difference. I'm just an anal-retentive programmer type, who has to know! :geek:

  4. bmw also has a terrific nav system. its extremely accurate and explains the directions and shows them on the screen in a very easy, simple manner. you also have complete control of everything whether the car is moving or not :D. also i dont understand if lexus didnt want u to enter addresses while driving, why do they have the 6 second override? the least they could do is let u enter addresses by voice like infiniti.

I can't seem to find anything about the "6 second override" by using the search feature; can someone point me to a post, or explain what the override does and how to do it, please?

  5. Hey I just got my IS 350 tinted, my dad knew a guy so I got a really good price, all four windows are legal 30 percent but it's lower because of the tint already on the IS windows from Lexus, and I went 15 percent on the rear windshield. I got the llumar tint. I couldn't be happier with it!!!!!!!!!!!! Here are some pics:

I got my 350 at Sewell Lexus in Ft. Worth, and they tinted my windows the day I bought it, without even my having to ask. I presume it's part of their normal setup on a new sale. Did most of you have to have it done separately?

  6. It continues to impress me that I haven't heard or read many (in any) major complaints or problems with the IS that would be a factor in my decision. I fell in love with the car the first time I saw it, and when I saw how reasonably priced it was, I was even more in love. But then why am I still considering the Acura TL? Because I do have to face th efact that money is a partial issue. The TL offers an amazing package for the money, and along with the money the dealer would be willing to take off the MSRP. I just hope I make the right decision.

Silver, thank's for the tip about carbargains.com. I'll be sure to check that out. And David Redfearn, can you elaborate on the Costco program? Can anyone get it?

    Thank you

When I was looking to buy, in April, I drove a TL in South Austin, and considered buying it, but then I drove a red 350 at LexusofAustin. That was the car! Oh, but they didn't have one, except the demo. Salesman (Steve) wasn't inclined to give me any price break on an ordered 350, so I called around and found a TP/blk one with a Luxury package at Sewell in Ft. Worth. Salesperson (Christiane) offered me 1800 off sticker. Drove up and bought it the next day. They spent all day prepping it, and helped me get my old 2000 Solara home (sold it later for 2200 more than they'd offered for it). Great sales/service, I'd say. I much prefer the rear-wheel drive vs. the FWD on the TL. Also, don't like the sound of the VTEC engine; when you goose it, it whines. The dealer was going to give me free tires for the life of the TL!! That was a pretty enticing offer. But, decided to get what I really liked. No complaints about the IS350!

  7. I know the options for route calculations on my Ipaq are

    shortest distance

    shortest time

    major highways

    local roads

as well as a "reduced turn" feature for a more straight route

    toll roads include/avoid

Are any of those present on your systems?

Yes, the Lexus has some of those, but doesn't have 'local roads' or 'reduced turn' on it. It has others, like 'toll roads', 'seasonal roads' and a couple of other things. I would be willing to bet a nickle that users in large cities, like Houston, or Dallas, don't see this issue. i.e. I'd guess that Lexus has put more info into the mapping in large cities. I live in a town of about 50k population, which makes "her" favorite expression "...Guidance will not be provided in these areas". B)

  8. The 3 routes offered by my IS350 nav system use only main roads. I live 3 miles from work, and there is a normal road/street going almost straight there, but the nav won't offer that route no matter what I do. There is enough info in the system to show and identify the street name, so why would it not use it?

I also own a Garmin hand-held GPSmap76CS, which has no problem with normal streets, and routing. Anyone else notice their Lexus nav having that issue?

Did you try the options to turn on interstates etc??

A few times I've just had to ignore her.. for some reason she was tring to take me from hartford to worcester via Springfield!!!! Even when I was north of Hartford on 84... she kept trying to get me to do a u turn and go back.... Like every girl.. after she realized she would not get her way... she shut up and guided me on north on 84!! :)

I give her 3.5 out of 5 stars.... I love the Nav... BUT still needs some work..

Does the Acura have a build in traffic avoidance?

Yes, I tried Interstates on and off, but it wasn't using any highway at the time, so I didn't see, or expect, a difference.

I tried the forced recalculation of the route while I was using the street in question, but it won't give you the option of 'delete and recalculate' (or I forget what it is called) when you are closer than a couple of miles or so. I used that option later on a highway, with miles yet to go to a different dest, and it worked just fine. When setting the destination while driving on the street, it just says to proceed to the route and nav will start (showing a main road where it will start). I'm pretty sure the Lexus/CD/memory combo should have more space available than the Garmin handheld/Street software, so it must be that Garmin's programming, or mapping, was better than Lexus'.

  9. The 3 routes offered by my IS350 nav system use only main roads. 10. I am brand new to the forum. I am waiting on my car to get here from Japan in about 2-3 months. I am very very anxious. I ordered Silver/Black, Manual, Heated and cooled seats, Navigation, and 18" wheels and I just want more picutures of the IS. If you could, please post pictures to hold me over while I wait.

    Thanks guys :D

By 'silver', do you mean 'Tungsten Pearl' ? That's what I have (in a 350) and it looks sharp. I would highly recommend the chromed 18" wheels, though. It didn't look near as sharp when it had wheels the color of the car; the chrome made it! Sorry for trying to spend your money for ya. :cries:

Don't have any good pics, but maybe I'll take some for you...

  11. Small problem with my new IS350:

Washer fluid won't come out of the main jets. The headlamp washers work fine, but pulling the wiper control upwards causes the wipers to activate but the windshield stays dry. I don't hear any kind of pump trying to push the fluid out, and I have checked that the fluid is topped off.

Probably a no-brainer 'take it in' situation, but perhaps someone has a no-brainer 'try this' solution?

    Thanks,

    Jason

Well, I may be misunderstanding your "upwards", but to squirt, you pull the control "backwards", i.e. toward your chest, not "upwards". Upwards does what you state - just operates the wiper once.

    Hope that helps.
